I was able to germinate 10 moso seed they are about eight months old and all growing and shooting very well except for one, The tiny one you see next to the large one is the same exact age as the big one it’s only shooting from the same culm from germination and finally has one new shoot coming up.

Alphonse karr. Zon 8 Texas. We had freeze damage a month ago and my Alphonse karr is sending out new leaves - not sure if they are culms. Should I simply cut out all the brown dead shoots and the new culms will fill out?

This, more than five year old, clump of bamboo has been cut mowed over and sprayed. Yet it has grown culms larger than my wrists. Also what species is this?

When did the solid culm trait arise in maize (Zea mays)?
The cultivated maize (Zea mays) is one of relatively few grass species that have a solid culm, whereas a culm with hollow internodes is the most common type in the grass family (Poaceae). So I was wondering if the solid stem in maize is a result of cultivation, or if the trait appeared before the onset of cultivation? For example, do wild teosinte species have solid culms?
Phyllostachys Aurea, put into this pot this time last year, all of this years growth is coming up extremely close to the original culms. Will this harm the plant? Can I encourage spreading growth to fill the pot?

Culms and rhizomes
Is there a relationship between the size and appearance of rhizomes to that of the culms they will produce. I recently bought a phyllostachys nigra rhizome from amazon. The rhizome is less than an inch in diameter and yellow. Was I scammed or do I have to wait and see?

Textilis mutabilis smashed under trees for two years still alive. Will they shoot new culms from their nodes under the mulch? Was going to carve a trail but I want these to spread. Gave up on various search terms being politicized!

Question on broken culms that are still growing.
I have a bit of a rabbit problem for my young plants and I was wondering if a culm was snapped, if it will continue to push out of the ground or if it will stop growing? I had a culm that was maybe 24 inches out of the ground and the woody part nearest to the ground is thick enough in diameter that the rabbits won't be able to bother it, but they snapped it further up where it's thinner. Will it continue to push out of the ground to reach it's full height or is it shot now?
Why doesn't the paper and lumber industry switch to bamboo which is just as useful but more efficient at fighting greenhouse gases, grows faster, and takes up less space per tree(culm)?
Finalized a plan for my 5' branch line terminus shelf layout, based on Hemyock Station at the terminus of the Culm Valley Light Railway. It was a squeeze, but I couldn't resist adding a turntable. Track will be Peco Code 80, turntable will also be Peco.

Is this a bamboo culm growing at the base of my bambusa vulgaris?
