As ski jumping takes the next weekend off to celebrate Christmas and prepare for the Four Hills Tournament, I thought this might be a good moment to pause and reflect on the championship so far, using historic data from previous seasons to look at how the rest of this season (including the Olympics) might unfold.
So far this year, weβve had nine individual competitions: two in Nizhny Tagil, two in Ruka, one in WisΕa, two in Klingenthal, and two in Engelberg. Following these nine competitions, the top five in the World Cup standings currently looks like this:
- Karl Geiger (GER) - 594
- Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN) - 496
- Halvor Egner Granerud (NOR) - 361
- AnΕΎe LaniΕ‘ek (SLO) - 359
- Stefan Kraft (AUT) - 358
Itβs exciting to see so many athletes from different nations up there, and the fact that there are only three points between third and fifth place is awesome! But what does it mean for Geiger, chasing his first crystal globe, or Kobayashi and Granerud going after a second? To try and find out, I looked at the World Cup standings just before the Four Hills Tournament from the past ten seasons of menβs ski jumping (from 11/12 to 20/21) using www.berkutschi.com (I initially started adding it all up by hand, before realising Berkutschi let me view that information really easily, which is an hour of my life which Iβll never get back)
What I found could be considered promising both for Geiger and for his challengers! In five out of the last ten seasons, the leader of the World Cup going into the FHT has gone on to win that seasonβs crystal globe (those seasons are 20/21 (Granerud), 18/19 (R Kobayashi), 15/16 (P Prevc), 13/14 (Stoch), and 12/13 (Schlierenzauer)) β this would suggest Geiger has roughly a 50% chance of finally sealing the deal this season! In the other 50% of seasons, the World Cup winner was ranked 2nd, 3rd, or 4th by this point in the season. This can be further broken down as:
- Two jumpers were ranked second (Kraft in 19/20 and Bardal in 11/12)
- One jumper was ranked third (Kraft in 16/17)
- Two jumpers were ranked fourth (Stoch in 17/18 and Freund in 14/15)

Therefore, while Geiger has the greatest individual odds, donβt be too hasty to count out Kobayashi, Granerud, LaniΕ‘ek, or, considering the almost non-existent gap between third and fifth, Kraft!

I just realized I still need 500 crystals to lvl up my globe chair to lv11 to unlock music. And there is only 2 days left!!! Means I will be short on 100 crystals by Jan 5th. I was stuck on poses for many days because ghost park and eco lab refused to drop a pose for me. The drop rate was so bad I think if I used the time to farm I would get at least 5 droplets instead....so I only unlocked the next lvl when nexon gave the βsitβ pose for logging in for 10 days. I got that pose the first day it was available and now I think Iβm not gonna unlock βmusicβ for my globe after All that hard work I put it into. I feel so sad. Why did nexon release a poop event like this? Not to mention nexon still owns me a gift because maplexmas was bugged on the last day...
