A list of puns related to "Corrosion Inhibitor"
I guess thats low enough to use on hinges and stuff but how about the firebox or associated metal parts?
I have a camp stove that I dont be use more than a few times a year. Id like to knock off some of the surface rust and get a coat of something on it.
I am in Wisconsin, just bought a brand new car. Dealer said parts manufactured come with some sort of treatment for corrosion inhibiting. Is there a safe coating I can spray under my vehicle and is it even necessary? I seen some people post about CRC and some others but I know nothing about these products. Want to make sure they are safe for vehicles not just parts or other items.
Setting up my first custom loop, have decided to go clear distilled water. What biocide and corrosion inhibitor should I use?
Seeing alot of recommendations for the mayhems biocide and inhibitor. Unfortunately here in Australia, I can only find the biocide but not the mayhems corrosion inhibitor.
I did find a store that has primochill primp prep. Will this do?
Happy to hear out any recommendations.
Motivation: I've been re-doing my loop and used up the last of my Primochill Liquid Utopia corrosion inhibitor when I recharged my loop with coolant. I have some more parts incoming, so I'm going to have to either recycle the coolant, or make up a new batch once I've installed those new parts. So I went looking for a place to buy another bottle of corrosion inhibitor concentrate. Primochill's website lists it for $19 USD (expensive but whatever... watercooling isn't a cheap hobby), but shipping to Canada was $30 USD.
Something about paying that much in shipping got me thinking that I might be able to just make corrosion inhibitor myself. I mean how hard could it be? The fact that products typically don't list their ingredients (let alone the concentrations of said ingredients) made me suspicious that corrosion inhibitor is extremely easy & cheap to make.
So, several hours of reading the engineering handbook on water cooling, it turns out that the magic of corrosion inhibitors in liquid cooling loops is 200-300ppm Molybdate (MoO4^(2-)). A little quick math (doubled checked my my friend Alex who is a chemical engineer):
So, just add around 0.4g of Sodium Molybdate per liter of coolant. Or if you're using freedom units, that's 90.2 drams per hogshead. (or 1.4g/US Gallon if you want to mix normal and stupid units).
It turns out that Molybdate, in addition to being an effective corrosion inhibitor, is also an effective biocide. So that's two birds with one stone.
But that'd all be for naught if Molybdate was expensive or hard to purchase for us regular plebes. Well, it turns out that Sodium Molybdate also has uses as a nutrient transporter in hydroponics. So, depending on which country you live in, it should be readily available and relatively cheap. In Canada, I can buy a 454g

Imidazolines are heterocyclic group of compounds, having five membered rings with two nitrogen atoms. The nitrogen present in the structure enhances functional derivation, allows other various functional group of Imidazoline radical to work without effecting its paramagnetic properties. The head and the pendant group of the molecule bonds the same to surface while the hydrocarbon tail forms a protective layer or adsorptive layer.
The most widely used representative of the group is the tallow alkyl derivative. The unsaturated C18 consists of one double bond in a CIS isomer configuration that lowers its melting point and is the sole reason behind its liquid state at room temperature. The saturated C18 has no double bonds, providing rigidity to the molecule and raising the melting point with reduced flow ability.
Classified into two groups, Cationic & Amphoteric Imidazolines, the former is the Ammonium Mono Quaternary Salts with asymmetrical structure determined by cations, optically functioning in the aqueous solution where ionized.
ยท Cationic: The cationic imidazolines have positive charge on imidazoline nucleus and the electrical charge on the molecule remains unaffected by pH changes. Positive charge remains in acidic, neutral and alkaline medium.
o Hydroxy Ethyl Imidazolines: Hydroxy Ethyl Imidazolines are cationic imidazolines centred on fatty acid/ amino ethyl ethanolamine in the ratio 1:1 mostly applicable in deforming materials, oil/water soluble salts, enhancers and stabilizers used in lubricants, paper making processes and metal working systems.
o Amino Ethyl Imidazolines: Amino Ethyl Imidazolines are cationic imidazolines based on fatty acid / diethylenetriamine blended in 1:1 ratio, finding applications in corrosion inhibitors, dispersants, emulsifiers, etc.
o Amido Ethyl Imidazolines: Amido Ethyl Imidazolines are group of cationic imidazolines based on fatty acid / diethylenetriamine in 1:1 proportion, finding applications in textile products, acid detergents, thickeners, flocculants, etc.
ยท Amphoteric:
o Alkylamphoadiacetates
o Alkyliminopropionates
o Alkyl amphopropionate
