I know that fretted clavichords differ in that only the natural notes have their own strings and so they can’t be fully chromatic, but there are clavichord that have 12 strings per octave and since the mechanisms of sound production on the clavichord and the harpsichord are the same I am confused by what the difference is.
What percentage of bach’s WTC I & II can be played on a 54 key clavichord? I am looking into purchasing one, but I want to make sure I can at least play some of his work on it.
Hi it seems relatively easy to find recordings of the WTC on Piano and Harpsichord but I wondered if anyone knew of recordings of the works played on the Clavichord. I can’t seem to find many recordings other than those Wim Winters has recorded on his Youtube Channel.

Hello all, my impression was that Harpsichord Clearing House used to have nationwide classified ads for folks looking to sell harpsichords, clavichords, virginals, etc. But I checked their site recently and it appears they now just list what’s in their shop? EDIT: I was looking at the wrong section of the site, I see they do have more clavichord listings, but all larger than I'm looking for.
I’m looking to sell a basic larger/heavier Zimmerman unfretted single-strung clavichord and buy a small fretted clavichord to replace it. Is there any good site for me to make and find such listings? Thanks!

I heard more than once in documentaries that in its heyday the instrument was a very affordable one. Today the minimum price tag is 3000, which makes me wonder if the price we have today is due to the scarcity of qualified luthiers or if the clavichord was expensive all along.
