TIL A visual illusion (Chromostereopsis), caused by highly contrasted colors in images (generally red and blue), makes them appear 3D. It has been proposed that this illusion could have evolutionary implications in the development of eyespots in certain butterfly species.

Chromostereopsis is a visual illusion whereby the impression of depth is conveyed in two-dimensional color images. Some stained-glass artists used this effect to generate advancing or receding, sometimes referred to as "warm" and "cold", color images.

Chromostereopsis (reverse color change optical illusion) Children's Picture Book?
I've been trying to find this book for years. I remember reading a book that used the optical illusion process of chromostereopsis. Chromostereopsis is a visual illusion whereby the impression of depth is conveyed in two-dimensional color images, usually of red-blue or red-green colors. To put it simply, the book would have you stare at the center of a colored object for ~20 seconds and then instructed you to stare at a white surface such as a wall. You would then see the image in another color. I remember the illustration style being something along the lines of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Thanks in advance!
