I am a veterinary technician at a private animal shelter. We are open admissions, not considered “no kill” though. Anyways, a neighboring state has BSL laws in place. We are always overwhelmed and over flowing with dogs and cats. The input of animals the pubic brings to the shelter is very small compared to the amount adopted out… We rely on being able to transport a lot of animals to this neighboring state to be put in rescues and shelters there. Because guess what? They don’t have an over population problem and there are people in that state that want to adopt pets. Maybe it’s because pit owners aren’t allowed to create an uncontrollable slew of puppies? Maybe people actually look at their shelters because it’s not only pits up for adoption? They also have a lot of great programs for the animals of the community like actual low income veterinary care (which a lot of clinic where I am from claim to be but are not.) I love animals but pits are not where our resources should be placed when there are lovable cats and other non pit dogs with great personalities!

The solution to the pitbull problem is not attempting to ban pitbulls, the solution is making every dog owner criminally liable for the actions of their dog. Pitbull bans do little more than create new names for pitbulls as they have in Australia and England. They call them "staffies" over there but they are f***ing pitbulls, all of them. In order to make it untenable to own any dangerous dog we must start prosecuting dog owners for the actions of their dog. If your dog bites somebody, assault charge. If your dog kills a baby, murder charge. Nowadays the main consequence to owners if their dog attacks is their homeowners insurance going up for a few years. Nobody will buy a pitbull if they might go to jail for it, and if they do, fuckem.
Edit: how can a pitbull owner disagree with this law when they argue that dog attacks are the owner's fault anyway?

Missouri is attempting to ban BSL across the entire state. I will be writing, but will likely be outnumbered by pit supporters, because while most people don't want pit bulls, or aren't informed enough to care, supporters will be vocal. Our state needs all the help it can get from those of us who put people above pits. Please write in expressing the dangers of this breed.
Maybe a dumb question, but I’m curious.
I have a micro background and I’ve always wanted to work with pathogens, but I’m not interested in staying in academia. Are there BSL-3 labs in the private sector in the U.S.? If so, does anyone here have any experience working in one?
I love the Patco and use it to go from 8th to city hall every few weeks, but lately it has looked like the fucking Idocracy movie down there with trash mountains, people on bicycles clearly out of their minds at 3am, and off leash pit bulls barking at you while you walk the transfer. I'm a big dude and generally I'm ok ignoring them, but the last time I walked the concourse midday on a weekday some dude followed me when I said I didn't have money and tapped me on the elbow while asking again. I almost clocked him but just ran away instead. Thinking about getting pepper spray.
I heard the patco police say they only are allowed to handle issues inside of the fare gates, which is funny because the Patco platform is almost always clean and calm. Do I just start calling 911 every time shit happens down there until the city does something?
Is there a better entrance to get down to the BSL from the street?

She said that Harry Potter can be signed by tracing the shape of his scar on your forehead, and Boris Johnson is a floppy hand on your head to imitate his hair/fringe.
