A list of puns related to "Bichir"
Has anyone tried housing tiger barbs and yo-yo loaches with a delhezi? Itβs also housed with a killifish and a khuli loaches I can never seem to catch.
Currently got a bichir housed with them and seems all is well but the loaches and barbs are crazy at feeding times.
Iβm thinking of putting a school of guppies, platies or maybe mollies with a lone albino Senegal bichir (or perhaps also a regular Senegal bichir for contrast and a bit more activity) in a 75 gallon. Do yβall think Itβll balance out? The livebearers breeding to keep the population from dying out from the bichir eating them and the bichir(s) eating enough to keep them from overpopulating the tank? Itβs my understanding that the bichir(s) will eat till itβs full when itβs hungry but they donβt eat frequently, taking some time to digest food like snakes. Thereβll be live planted plants, live floating plants, driftwood and dragon stone for cover. The bichir (or possibly bichirs) will arrive as juveniles so theyβll possibly leave them alone for a while as they grow or will eat very few at the beginning, giving them ample time to build up a nice population. I obviously also plan to feed the bichirs for a varied diet, meaning they wouldnβt be feeding exclusively on the fish
This would be my first bichir (or bichirs) so Iβm inexperienced with them. Iβve kept platies before but without anything controlling the population they just ended up overpopulating my tank and I ended up rehoming them because of it.
So I found out about bichirs a while ago and I really want an albino Senegal bichir. I have fishkeeping experience but 0 bichir experience so I wanted to lay out my plans for the tank. I plan to put it in my biggest tank, which is a 75 gallon. Iβm thinking brown sand with driftwood and dragon stone on the bottom for hiding spots and decoration. Iβve got three bubblers in that tank too. Not sure what Iβm gonna put exactly yet but it will be planted.
Pretty sure all is good up to there. My doubts come in more regarding tank mates. I was thinking some silver dollars and giant danio. They grow pretty big and wouldnβt bother the bichir, I donβt think itβd eat them. Anyone have any experience mixing these? Or thoughts?
I was also considering guppies. I know itβll eat them, thatβs kinda the point. Would a sizeable school be able to reproduce fast enough to survive? Itβs my understanding that bichirβs donβt eat constantly
It is currently in an isolated tank, But has been living in a larger one. It has been like this for a while now and plenty of platforms has told me its probably gassy. Every once in a while it will appear to be fine, but now it just doesn't look like it has the strength for anything. I feed it thawed frozen prawns, as it has refused to eat anything else. I've tried bloodworm, peas, etc. but it only eats the prawns. lately it hasn't even been eating and I have no clue what to do. Any advice please.
The bichir is roughly 3 inches long and less than a year old (do not know exact age). it was doing perfectly well in the tank for the first few months.
Tank mates are: 2x three striped corys. 3x albino corys. 3x mollies. 1x bristle nose pleco.
Thanks

Got some things come up in my life and i think giving my beloved fish a new home id the best thing i can do for them. Would prefer a trade of just about anything if you have nothing to trade thats fine just bring a bucket and an air pump and ill net the fish for you. All are good quality healthy fish
WILL GIVE FISH ONLY WITH CONFIRMATION THAT YOU HAVE A TANK BIG ENOUGH FOR THEM because these are considered "monster" fish i wont be giving them to anyone who will abuse my beloved fish! Thank you for understanding !
I'm thinking of getting an endlicheri bichir and i hope that i make a proper setup for this fish.
This wonβt be any time soon. Both fish are in separate grow out tanks at the moment.
The Bichir iβve had for almost a year now and is maybe 5 or 6 inches long.. but the catfish i got, very small, about maybe 6 months ago.. and itβs still right around a inch.. itβs probably big enough the Bichir wouldnβt be able to eat it.. but still small enough that it might try.. so i donβt want to risk that just yet..
BUT!.. once the sizes appear better.. would these fish be fine to house together long term?
Are there any recommended species of catfish that can cohabitate with a Senegal bichir? I know bichir will typically try to eat anything that fits in its mouth, but wouldnβt a catfish do the same?
i really want a senegal bichir i have a few cichlids that wont be a problem but i have a jack dempsey that is like 2 inches right now im worried that when they grow the dempsey will be a big bully and might kill the bichir is it alright if i have them growing together or is this just not a good pairing
Hello everyone! I'm new to the hobby and I'd like to ask a few questions. Currently I've a 5 gallon tank bare aquarium with danios, snails and mollies, and a 10 gallon planted tank with marble queen and water cabbage with 2 juveniles senegals and a common pleco. I'll be getting a 50 gallon tank later this week after some research that the 10 gal is only good as a "growing tank", and also by accident since I thought I bought a 30 gallon one. I plan to stock with an additional pair of dwarf gourami and guppies. There's also an endlicheri that just arrived at my LFS that I'm really interested in. I'd like to ask if:
1.) If I can transfer the fish and water in my 5 gallon tank to the 10 using the existing tank water, and then transfer my 10 gallon tank using the same water (aka no need for cycling for the tanks). What's the best practice for this? If I transfer the fish should I also transfer the plants as well?
2.) Will the 50 gallon tank be overstocked with 3 bichirs, 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 snails and 6 guppies? Should I add more? I'll be scaping the 50 gallon tank as well
3.) My bichirs are named Ran and Shao. Ran appears to be bold, and isn't afraid of me, and even responds when I call him. As a result, he always gets to food first. Currently, despite being the same size when I got them, he's a bit bigger than Shao now. Recently they fought and he bit off Shao's pectoral fin. I read that Bichirs will be fine as long as the water is kept clean, and so far he hasn't show any weakness or sickness. He's just more wary of Ran. Do I have to any further actions/precaution? Will the addition of another bichir worsen Ran's territorial instict, or will it be ok since they'll be in a larger tank?
Sorry for the long post, any additional tips are appreciated!! Obligatory bichir tax (This is Ran when I got him)
