A list of puns related to "Barthelme"
Some of us had been threatening our friend Colby for a long time, because of the way that he had been behaving. And now he'd gone too far, so we decided to hang him. Colby argued that just because he had gone too far (he did not deny that he had gone too far) did not mean that he should be subjected to hanging. Going too far, he said, was something everybody did sometimes. We didn't pay much attention to this argument. We asked him what sort of music he would like played at the hanging. He said he'd think about it but it would take him a while to decide. I pointed out that we'd have to know soon, because Howard, who is a conductor, would have to hire and rehearse the musicians and he couldn't begin until he knew what the music was going to be. Colby said he'd always been fond of Ives' Fourth Symphony. Howard said that this was a "delaying tactic" and that everybody knew that the Ives was almost impossible to perform and would involve weeks of rehearsal, and that the size of the orchestra and chorus would put us way over the music budget. "Be reasonable," he said to Colby. Colby said he'd try to think of something a little less exacting.
Some Of Us Had Been Threatening Our Friend Colby by Donald Barthelme
Obviously this is a fraught and open-ended request, as there is clearly no one quite like Donald Barthelme. It seems to me that Barthelmeβs influence can be found in David Foster Wallace and Dave Eggers, but Iβm looking for any other comparable work that the internet can recommend!
You know, all those sorta folks...

I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this question so please lmk if you know of a better place to post this question, but-
I'm trying to find out who designed the cover art for Donald Barthelme's early/mid-1970s short story collections, specifically the cover for 'Sadness' (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1973), which depicts a child in a feathered hat sitting on a chair and holding a basket in one hand and a scepter in the other, with a yellow circle around the head.
I've looked in my copies and also searched through some PDF copies I've found online and can't find any cover design credit. I know Barthelme liked to make collages in addition to his literary pursuits so I wonder if these designs might perhaps be DB originals?
If anyone knows about these designs or has ideas for places I might look to find out more about them I would appreciate it!
Any recommendations? Never read him...
I will have to present this paper at some point and I would like to pronounce it correctly.
