A list of puns related to "Balefire"
So with the winter storm that fell on the East Coast this week, my power was out for more than 24 hours. The utility truck drove up and down our road, cutting random branches but ignored our cedar tree that had a branch visibly lying on the power line. The branch is too high for us to cut it off without a bucket truck. They are calling for more snow tonight, and I'm not very optimistic.
But I was thinking, a little tiny thread of balefire could cut that branch clean in two and let it drop harmlessly to the ground. And I could stay warm for the rest of the winter. If only ...
How would balefire make YOUR life more convenient?
So I have been making a hasty nontoken creature deck with [[Surrak the Dragonclaw]] that just tries to attack as much as possible and is totally fair (even underpowered) compared to most other high power EDH decks I play against that have infinite combos or crazy value in simic and so on ..
But still people seem to get really mad whenever I included [[Balefire Dragon]] in my deck, as if I would play something evil or something. While actually if you think about it .. I just paid 7 mana to cast a creature that still has to deal >>combat<< damage to even have a relevant effect.
So I am conflicted on what to do , because on the one side I know that nontoken combat decks are just fair and I am trying to make a deck that actually wins with combat damage (very difficult against 3 opponents) and on the other hand most people seem to think it's super unfair for some reason.
Hello, and Happy New Year to all of you! Argeddion/Lukas here, and today I'm happy to give you the first proper 2.0 Dev-Diary.
For those of you who might have forgotten:
Update 2.0 Will be called Spirits of the North, and will take you all the way from Manehattan, through the Prosperous East Coast, the mountainous Goatcasus, and the mysterious Griffish Isles to the Great City of Princessyn and the Frozen North beyond!
Our current Plans for Map-Expansion, 2.0 and beyond
Well then, let's get on with the subject of this Dev-Diary:
The Hollow Shades
North of the Foal Mountains, and isolated from the major powers of the Wasteland, this region might have been able to prosper in relative obscurity, were it not for the toxic Swamps, radioactive forests and dangerous wildlife.
The only proper wartime City in the region, Hollow Shades itself, was hit rather severely by Megaspells, as it hosted multiple equestrian military installations, including Megaspell-silos.
But the fragile peace, if you can even call it that, has been tested recently, as the Order of the Sunstone had a major Schism, and a Severyanan Warlord has chosen this backwater to start his own Empire.
All the Nations of the Hollow Shades
Let's start with the major Unification-Candidates:
The Nyneshnij Imperium
Founded 4 years ago by White Night, an aging Warlord from Severyana who made his way southwards in pursuit of his own little Place in the Sun to put down roots.
As he crossed the Mare-River, and his trained Soldiers smashed the local Clans of Tribals and Raiders, he knew he had found that Land.
He set to securing his surroundings and building a Capital for his new Nation, funded by the plunders from his march southwards, and supported by the Merchant-City of Morningstar across the river, who saw value in subduing the rowdy tribals to their South.
The Capital would be named Novo Princessyn, after the uninhabitable capital of Severnaya.
White Night had greater ambitions though, and as the last stone was laid for his new Palace, he proclaimed himself a descendant of the last Czar of Severyana and promised his followers that they would someday reclaim the near-forgotten Tsardo

What would happen if someone (let's call him Jim) was struck by balefire, but then the person (who's named Susan) firing the balefire was struck by a strong enough balefire that they were cut from the pattern before they fired the first blast of balefire?
Would Jim return to the pattern like he had never been cut or would he still be gone forever? In the books people have been brought back to life because of balefire, but those were all "normal" deaths. I need all of you smart people to tell me the real world implications of Susan being cut from the pattern after shooting bitchin death lasers at Jim.
Wouldn't you remove yourself from the pattern, thereby undoing your previous actions which includes balefiring yourself?
I'm writing a screenplay to EOTW, mostly for my own enjoyment but also to try and prove a point that it might be possible to be true to the text, and also entertaining in 8 hours of TV.
Going through the text with a fine toothcomb because I just want to use RJ's written dialogue, and I have gone as far as the end of the prologue.
In the prologue, Ishamael (the betrayer of hope) says to Lews Theron Telemon that the Dark One (Shae'tan) can return Ilyena to life as he is lord of the dead. At the end of the book when Rand (Lews Theron Telemon Reborn) confronts Ishamael in his room, Ishamael has Rand's dead mother held captive who Rand then sets free. This proves that it is true what Shae'tan can do, and its likely not some trick.
Later, numerous times, certain characters get burned from the pattern by Balefire and the assumption is they are gone forever, and not even Shae'tan can resurrect them. It is even said in the prologue when LTT threatens to send Ishamael to a place where not even the Dark One can reach him.
You could argue that it isn't possible for anyone to be gone forever because the wheel turns, the age that we are in right now happened exactly the same way before and those people get spun out again. But how would you know? What if different threads fill the spot in the pattern that those that got burned away left behind?
Well those souls (threads) who are burned away do not disappear forever and they will get spun out again, relatively soon! Here's proof from the prologue of EOTW, when Lews Theron kills himself, he draws on a ridiculously large amount of the power uncontrollably in a wish to completely eradicate himself. When he has reached his absolute limit and the end comes a "Bar of white hot light" comes down from the sky to the spot where he is. Not a beam, or a fork of lighting. A solid bar of light, just as it is described any time balefire is used.
I made the link when I was thinking about Shae'tan's abaility to bring back the dead. If LTT killed himself in a normal way then he could have been brought back to be tormented and imprisoned by the dark one and Ishamael. Instead that doesn't happen and the Dragon is gone until Rand is born on Dragonmount, at the very spot where he Balefired himself out of existence 3000 years later.
Therefore my theory is: If you get balefired, you won't die forever, you just won't exist (like in any afterlife) until the pattern spins you out again.
I don't know if this is common knowledge, or complet

Anyone know someone with enough power to hit this travesty of a show with enough Balefire to blast the last 8 weeks out of existence?
Let's say a Forsaken Balefires someone. They are then immediately hit by Balefire by Rand. Does this undo the first Balefire, or would the first victim remain erased from the pattern?
I'm assuming they would both remain erased, but I'm curious if others agree with this opinion or not.
So far so many changes but i ponder on this one most of all.
Hi all.
Just got to the part where Moiraine expanded on and explained balefire more, about it potentially effecting the pattern and that. Which got me thinking to the prologue of the eye of the world where Lews Therin called down the light to eradicate himself and thus starting the breaking. Was this balefire he called down? And If so did It effect the pattern in anyway? Which could be linked to why Rand has moments where Lews Therin is in his thoughts.
Hopefully this sort of makes sense and if itβs potential spoilers for further on then thatβs fine Iβll read and find out.
Overall this is an incredible series so far and loving it!!
Hey everyone,
I, like many, suffered through the last episode of WoT using the 10 second skip button to my full advantage. What the show has done to any male character is horrible, but honestly, since they propped up the women so much, a novice like egwene or nynaeve using balefire would have been a decent ending.
Now I know what you're thinking "that would be mary-sue OP bull crap" and you'd be right. But at least it would spare Agelmar from the death to the first trolloc that pokes at him with a pointy stick. Now I haven't finished the books but from what it seems, one of those 2 burning out using balefire and the other, preferably Nynaeve, searching for a way to heal burnt out channelers would ACTUALLY be a decent story line for a season 2 that I won't watch. But now we have a shielded Moiraine to heal instead.
But yknow that can't be a thing with this show. Walk in the light brothers. They butchered our boys!
Edit: Someone correctly pointed out the events of aMoL with the cracks in reality itself, if you have anything else to add feel free to, just wanted to give a heads up that the main question was clarified. :D
So we all know the memes of Rand and his best buddy balefire, the problem solver 9000. He is constantly chastised for using it and people, mainly Aes Sedai, cry about how horrible it is if anyone else uses it as well, example: Nynaeve during her Aes Sedai trial.
To be clear, I understand why its so looked down upon, but is it actually that bad? Because during the War against the Shadow 3000 years ago, it was forbidden by both sides due to the scale at which they were utilizing it. The amount of balefire back then probably caused gigantic ripple effects. During our story however there is a very limited number of people who use it/even know how to, and the most it did was at Natrims Borrow, a remote castle with people/threads that probably didnt have a lot of contact to the rest of the world. --> their erasure likely didnt effect much outside of the immediate area.
So to get to my question, do we get any indication as to how bad the effects are in the books, besides it saving our characters, killing forsaken and causing a balescream ONCE, which yields no actual consequences?
Thanks for any clarification :D
Hello everyone!
I've been playing recently the game (70 hours so far) and it's a blast! My congrats to the devs for making this beautiful game. I can't think of any other game that I had such a great time with.
I got instantly hooked by the realm solo mode in Torment difficulty and would like to share a very successful build capable of dealing insane damage (max I did was something close to 35K) ending boss fights in very few rounds.
Those are the skills I had by realm 11 (when I decided to end the run as things became too repetitive and there was no challenge anymore outside of refining my gear to get +STR and +Burn stacks.
https://preview.redd.it/6sn794xsc7081.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=11ea1b4dffff72453d64eb5f1a1687045787943a
The gameplay is very simple:
Have lots of Max channels by playing multiple Mana Tempest on turn 1 with Triple Cast (you must expend Mana Tempest in order to draw the entire deck or close to the entire deck on your next turn) and play enough Flame Shields in order to not die. On turn 2 do:
- If vs non-boss minions: Mana Channel (+3 channels) -> Triple Cast on Firestorm -> Cast one copy of Firestorm for 0 -> Cast Absorb Fire to get channels to the Max --> Cast the other copy of Firestorm, or up to three more copies of Firestorm, or combine some Firestorms with Balefire until everything is destroyed. Usually the battle ends after turn 2. If not, just repeat the above and if necessary play some Flame Shields in between.
- if vs boss: Mana Channel (+3 channels) -> Double Cast on Firestorm -> Cast the copy of Firestorm for 0 -> Cast Absorb Fire to get channels to the Max -> Triple Cast twice on Balefire -> Cast 4x copies of Balefire for 0 AP -> End with explosion. Repeat until finished. The Surge synergy card will help you with AP, as this complete combo requires 6 mana (2 Triple Cast (4) +1 Double Cast (1) + Absorb Fire (1) (unfortunately I didn't got any +AP from gear, but the more AP you have the smoother the combo will run).
The total damage against bosses with the 6 AP combo above, considering I was able to infringe 316 burn stacks (54 from card + 25 from gear and talents, 4x) with one Firestorm, is (if I didn't miscalculated anything):
1.3 * (316*2.45β΄ + 45*2.45Β³ + 45*2.45Β² + 45*2.45 + 45) = 16.2k (theoretically, considering 0 fire resist)
If you cast the 5th copy of Balefire (the one which is not temp), you can raise this to 30k+ and insta-kill many bosses (be

Especially as the adaptation is coming up and while our first and second season will likely not have any balefire, it will eventually have to show up. And personally, I'm very excited to see balefire on the big screen :)
As for me, I always imagined the initial bright light as silent, but could never decide what noise, if any, would follow. Let me know your thoughts, should balefire be loud, silent, spooky?
I've added plenty of new bottles and wax, shipping from Austria. 50% off shipping above 40β¬
(Shipping outside Austria starts usually at 10-15β¬ and goes up to 20β¬ to the US/Canada.)
While listening to the book and preparing for Garbage Night, my partner posed a question that requires debate from more/better minds than ours:
If one was to balefire food waste, would the original food cease to exist, either removing it from the consumers stomach or removing the act of eating all together (depending on strength of the balefire)? Could someone be starved to death via balefiring their scraps?
We appreciate your thoughts on this matter as we gather our trash for more mundane disposal.
EDIT: The exact situation we had in mind is I eat a slice of bread. The loaf of bread is later balefired to nonexistence. Have i still eaten the bread/retain nutritional benefits of the bread?

Hello everyone! It's Argeddion/Lukas, and today I want to talk about the future of our Mod, both in the short, and in the long-term. Let's start with the immediate future first:
Our next proper Update, 1.3: Broken Gems, will, as many of you have likely already guessed from our many teasers, deliver focus trees for New Mareway, the Neocastle Guilds and the Bloody Army. This, of course, may not end up being all the nations that will get content in 1.3, but these three are guaranteed, along with the usual slew of bugfixes and minor QoL improvements. Along with focus trees, 1.3 will also deliver the first of our tech-tree overhauls: a complete rework and expansion of the Robotics tech-tree!
A first look at the expanded Robotics tree. The other half will be teased in the coming weeks.
Looking beyond 1.3, we will have 2-5 more updates in the Heartlands region, though which countries will receive what content is not set in stone yet. Making a mod with a team of volunteers that have busy personal lives and other obligations does simply not lend itself to making hard predictions about the future.
But, even so, here are some short summaries of countries which we are over 90% certain will receive full unique trees:
The Ringers and Light:
Howdy everyone, it's The_Laundry once more! While Lukas has been focusing on laying the groundwork for another, larger project (see below), I've taken up the task of making the area initially region the best that it can be! Included in that will be full content expansions for the Ringers and Light, aiming to fully flesh them out, and to achieve the ever elusive task of balancing Red Eye.
To start us off, the Ringers: originally based on Fallout 4's greatly underdeveloped Gunners, with a heavy dash of 1930s mafiosos. They run a protection racket on their neighbors, "defending" them from the threat of Red Eye, though with a gun pointed to the head of each one of their protectorates should they step out of line. The city of Light, however, is just a different side to the same coin. Plagued by rampant corruption, and based on another staple of Fallout 4, Diamond City, Light is simultaneously the main ally and main enemy of the Ringers.
Before anything can come to a head between the two, however, they must survive Red Eye's assault; which, depending on how well the Mob as

If the answer is no, we sadly end the discussion here. If the answer is yes, we can get into some fun nonsense here. So if yes,
After person B balefires person C and person A balefires person B and person C comes back, what happens if person C then balefires person A? Are they all dead? All alive? Endless paradox that breaks the pattern? (Don't tell Moridin) If this works with 3 people, can this be extended to n number of channelers?
