It was actually quite a lighthearted affair.
Context: Conversation between Friend 1 and Friend 2 about Friend 1's Pontiac Aztek
F1: "Hey, my car doesn't have a flippy gas cover thing, is it supposed to have one?"
F2: "I don't know actually, I'm not an expert on Aztecs, I'm more of an Inca kinda guy."
and I noticed that her green underwear (usually reserved for certain times of the month) had been rinsed and thrown into the hamper. Suspecting she had been doing the Aztec two-step in the chocolate rain, I held up up the pair of panties and asked what color she thought her panties were. "I dunno...lime green?" she guessed. To which I responded, "Are you sure they're not shartreuse?"
I was teaching a review lesson on the Aztecs to my 9th grade global students. We were covering chinampas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinampa) and I decided to lighten the mood by saying "considering the technology they had at the time, chinampas are pretty a-maize-ing. Sorry that was a corny joke." Didn't get a single laugh.
