Today i upgraded my kernel. While having a glance on some options in menuconfig before building, i stumbled upon this help text for the arcnet module:

Thus i had some funny stuff to read today.
It is jettisoned just after the first stage cuts off, when the spacecraft is traveling about 7,500 FPS. Escape velocity is around 36,600 FPS.
So, I bought a Yaesu FTM-400DR (this post is not about debating the merits of this radio.) Since a quick Google search led me to believe that the Chirp support isn't fully-baked yet, and I'm not keen on feeding in 4 dozen repeater frequencies by hand, I ordered the RTsystems software (ADMS-M400-U) for it from HRO.
Per usual, HRO's standard shipping got the product here in a day. (This is not about HRO, they seem to rock.) I opened the box. Huh. A CD. How quaint.
I looked around. I have two Macbooks, a Mac Mini server and a 13" Windows 8 laptop. None of these have an optical media drive as optical media drives are going the way of the Dodo. "No problem," I think, "this older laptop running Ubuntu has an optical drive. I'll just image the CD, mount it on a Win7 VM on one of my Macs and be on my way."
Ha. Ha ha. HAHAHAHAH. Silly me. Of course the same method I've used to do something for years with a computer doesn't work, this is ham radio. How stupid of me to forget. I get errors trying to do the install, so I check the RTsystems website and search on 'no cd.' The first article that pops up? This.

WTF? Is this their 'copy protection' scheme? Seriously? Why is it that when it comes to computers, amateur radio equipment manufacturers seem to think it's still 1993? There's some half-assed copy protection scheme for this CD (or some even more idiotic reason why it has to be installed from optical media...IDK), and I've noticed that every piece of gear made before 2010 seems to interface via RS-232 rather than USB or Ethernet, and when they do interface via USB, it's because they soldered the FTDI chip on the board in the rig rather than putting it in the cable. I mean, yes, RS-232 is the lowest common denominator, but many (if not most, I haven't counted) computers shipped in the last decade don't have a RS-232 port. Do they do this because of RFI? Isn't that a solvable problem? I picture the days of VBA runtimes, 'Plug-n-Play' network cards that never worked, and support from a guy named Bob running a dial-up BBS.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I perform the freaking complex task of installing this software into a Win7 VM or onto a Win8 machine with no optica

SrA 1D7 (former 3D) recently palace fronted into the guard after 4 years active and am starting to miss some of the AD benefits/lifestyle. I’ve applied to several AGR opportunities, mostly out of state and a couple that would require cross training.
I’ve heard most AGR hires are internal (“good ol boys”). If this is true, I’m assuming my chances for these out of state positions are slim? Being relatively new to the guard, what are some other ways guard guys look for AD tours?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
