A list of puns related to "Apparitional Experience"
Id like to understand the stages of manifestations from hearing other peoples experiences. Does an apparition have to power up its own image before its clear to be seen or sensed, if that makes sense.
I was approached by a shadow apparition years ago. Heard it first shuffling into the room. It then shook my airbed and began manifesting as black static. Static like on a television. It took on a more smokey consistancy and than vanished when I called on Jesus. This all happened within the span of a few min.
There is so much more to that story but its not the point. How does it manifests/choose to show itself? Can aparitions 'readily' show themselves? Thank you.
I have a pretty interesting story that's given me chills the few times I've heard it. So obviously this didn't happen to me but to a coworker/friend while we both worked at a nursing home. I 100% believe this happened bc this person is very level headed and I haven't known her to lie or make things up in all the years I knew and worked with her. This happened very late at night in a nursing home when she had gone into a patients room to give some medication. She said she didn't make it further than the doorway because she saw the patient was sitting up in bed talking to something that obviously wasn't human who was sitting on the end of her bed. She described it as a completely black cloaked figure. When she got to the doorway the patient and the figure both looked over to her and she couldn't make out any facial features expect for a very large and exaggerated smile. She promptly pooped her pants and ran to the nurses station to grab another nurse to go back with her. When she got to the room the patient was still sitting up but alone and said something to the effect of "You scared my friend. He's hiding in the closet". She did not look in the closet. She thinks this may have been something like the angel of death because the patient was going downhill and ended up passing a few weeks after that. She may have given more detail but this is all I remember now bc this happened some years ago.
Their forms were made of large tubes of flowing light and color with no real defined edges. They appeared to walk up to me from very far away, both moved their faces very close to mine (no features, one side was covered by what looked like really long hair) and blew what I can only describe as healing smoke all over my body (made me feel warm and filled me with a sense of content, happiness and belonging on the planet). Was going through a serious disassociative episode at the time, and its what took me out of that dark time in my life.
Really interested to see if anyone else has had/heard any similar experiences.
It is another level of frightening encounter, when it starts talking.. to you.
This happened to my uncle but is true.
Years ago there was a very large storm in my area that impacted all of the surrounding cities as well. At the time of this storm, my uncle was in his workshop in the backyard working in his moms Ford Model A. During the storm he kept the door open to monitor how heavy the rain kept coming. As the storm kept getting stronger and stronger, he looked outside and saw his Dad. The problem is that his dad died in 1993, and this event took place in 2011. The apparition of his dad then waved at him to come over, at that point he ran out there because he couldnβt believe that his dad was standing there after dying years before. Right after he got out of the workshop, his Dad vanished, and right then, the neighbors oak tree fell, and completely crushed the entire workshop, which would have definitely killed my uncle if he was in there. I would love to ask my uncle more about it but he died in 2017, but he swore this story was true and would mention it regularly until he died. This apparition of his dad no doubt saved his life. Does anyone else have any positive experiences with apparitions?
Hello all, throwaway because screw it. So to preface this, the experience occured last Winter but still makes my hair stand up on end.
So my gf and I went to visit my grandma last christmas vacation, and on our drive back we saw something that neither of us have ever experienced before or since then.
It was probably between 3 and 5PM (so no sun out) with lots of clouds, but not quite dark yet and storming pretty decently. As we begin going down a hill through/nearby a nature preserve: we see someone on a bicycle coming out from the left side of the road, closer to the bottom of the hill.
No cars around, just me in passenger and my girl driving: in the slushy downpour(so we were going maybe 40mph). This person on a bicycle seemingly begins to cross the road at a pretty rapid pace and shows no signs they are stopping and no care to our car.
As they continue to cross, we continue to slow down the best we can and my girlfriend has correct the steering and eventually swerve from this bicyclists path...
It fucking dissipated into the grooves of the pavement right before we hit it. Literally the entire moving objects and shapes like melted into the sealant and grooves of running water on the pavement (like if you were tripping honestly lol, how things swirl around).
This is pretty sketchy for me as my girl was stone cold sober/the driver, with us both seeing the exact same thing and hee trying to swerve from hitting it.
On two separate occaaions we have heard disembodied sounds while laying in bed about to sleep (a cat meowing in the room connecting to mine, when I own no cats AS WELL AS A BABY CRYING IN THE GUEST BEDROOM BUT I AINT GOT NO KIDS.
Had to share, think about that bicycle boi from time to time. Surrounded by forest, not even a driveway for him to come from if it was a real dude.
This past Saturday I went on a hike up to a lookout over Lake Whatcom in Washington State. I was sitting in a secluded corner away from the traffic of other hikers. I smoked some cannabis and was meditating looking out over the lake and into the valley that was visible some miles away. The visibility was really good and I was impressed/overwhelmed by the distance. Felt good to be outside on a beautiful day really soaking up the experience.
Suddenly, my attention is fully demanded by a weird auditory experience. The closest thing I can compare it to is the first few seconds of the song Blue Monday by New Order. Just five bass hits, the first two slow and the final 3 much more rapid. (It had been years since I'd listened to that song). This did not feel like a noise from my surroundings (unless it was like...seismic? But it was more artificial in feeling). I could hear my heart beating and it was completely off tempo from this sensation. Despite all this, it felt very "other" and external without being from the surrounding environment. It freaked me out, it was just so abrupt and demanding of my attention. I got up and rushed back to an area of the lookout with more people to lay in the sun for a bit.
Has anyone had any experience with intrusive auditory sensations like this or heard of similar things that can be linked to?
Got recommended Tanya Luhrmann's work about evangelical's bodily experience of Jesus. Feeling like being touched by Jesus, whispered by Jesus, and so on. Truly fascinating.
It reminds me of my own experience in where I live. Not about God, but ghost and supernatural apparition. My culture has it that you can experience ghosts just like in horror movies. They can touch you, can possess you. If you're having sleeping paralysis it's probable that you've witnessed something you shouldn't have seen. If you have a heavy weight on shoulders it's probable a ghost has been haunting you. I live in Malaysia btw but I've heard similar stories from friends both in Europe and other Asian countries. Those who believe in supernatural stuff anyway. It's all bodily experiences.
Is there any anthropological work about it?
Hey all, I'd like to share a couple of my paranormal experiences. Two of which I have seen apparitions. I'll start with my childhood ghost story that I find heart-warming. When I was around the age of 5 I would be with my grandmother pretty much all of the time. She has always been a spiritual person. Many a times has she told me that she sees people from the other side and feels their energy. Back when I would be with her all the time, she would tell me about how often her own grandmother would visit her. My grandmother and her grandmother were great friends and by the way should explain it, she thought she got her spirituality from her grandmother. Well, in my grandparents old house, there was a narrow stairwell up to the second floor were my father and uncle used to live in. Once reaching the final step, to the left there was a small doorway that opened up to a little small square library (maybe 8'x8' but with the bookshelves filled it was a lot smaller). This was my spot to be in that house. I always was comfortable there just sitting on the floor. The one day I was hanging out in the library, I had looked up at the doorway and saw my great-greatgrandmother. I didn't know who she was at the time. I recall this so vividly: she had long curly white hair that went down to about halfway of her biceps. Her skin was fairly wrinkly and had big blue eyes and wide grin as she looked down at me. She had on a pretty white dress. I sat there in awe and wasn't scared one bit. But the moment that I blinked, she was gone. I never told my grandma what I had seen until some years after that. She knew instantly that it was her grandmother I was talking about, and went on to tell me that she had seen her on occasion in that house.
My second experience happened early this year in the winter months of my semester at college. I had been living in a three bedroom townhouse with two of my friends. The town I was living in was Nelsonville, Ohio, which is near Athens. If anyone knows about southern Ohio, they'll probably say about how it is one the "most haunted areas in the state". Anyways, I was usually the last person to go to bed most of the time. So one night, after I turn off all of the lights downstairs, I make my way up to my room which is upstairs and to the left. There was a another bedroom to the left of mine and a bathroom directly in front of there top of the stairs. There was a small light I had on in my room, so it wasn't completely pitch black at the top, but

I was sitting on the couch and looking straight ahead, but out of the corner of my eye, my brain perceived my little brother as being right βout of frameβ letβs say. He asked me if I was okay. I told him that I felt great and was tripping really hard.
I stayed focused looking forward because I had this weird feeling that if I actually looked he wouldnβt be there.
The conversation afterwards went something like this.
Brother: βyou know I love you, man. I just want to make sure youβre okay and doing things the way they should be done.β
Me: (feeling a bit uneasy about that statement) βyeah Iβm really fine, man. Donβt worry about me.β
Brother: βI hope so. I know you donβt believe in this stuff, but I pray for you every night. I always hope youβre okay and that youβre happy.β
Me: βthank you. I love you. Thank you for being here with me.β (I was peaking and feeling extremely lovey and was touched by my brotherβs words)
At this point itβs important to note that my brotherβs name is Tanner.
Brother: βMe and Tanner both love you too. We know youβll be alright, but weβll be praying for you.β
Me: (unnerved by the βme and tannerβ statement but still pretty mellow because drugs) βwait, who are you?β
Brother: βDylan.β
My brother had a twin who died in the womb whoβs name was going to be Dylan.
I finally looked over in shock. He wasnβt there. Iβve never told tanner about this as he gets uncomfortable about the subject of his twin. I realize it was all subconscious thoughts and me tripping, but it still makes me feel weird every now and then when I think about it. Weird in a good way kinda.
I don't mean this from any kind of theological perspective but in terms of literary/mythical parallels. Any connection between Caesar having a supernatural experience before taking control of the empire/Republic and Paul having a supernatural experience before advancing the "kingdom of God" throughout the Roman Empire?
When I was a very young boy still in kindergarten, I had my first experience with an entity. It was nothing extreme, and may not have actually been anything. But it was enough to terrify me and drilled itself into my memories and dreams. It was a foggy like figure hovering above my bed. It had no facial features, but had two noticeable black blotches where eyes would be. After screaming my lungs out, my family came running into the room, probably thinking there was an intruder.
After being taken downstairs and telling my family about the situation. (Through tears of course, my young mind did not understand what I had just seen. Honestly, I still donβt. And never will.) my father wrote down in a notebook everything I had said. And they slept with me that night. After that night, things drastically changed in my life. My family went to shit, my home and friendships were eventually destroyed, and everyone I knew started acting differently towards me. I didnβt understand why, it didnβt make sense. After a few years of this, I saw the entity once again. When I was around 10. This time I was playing my GameCube in my room, and my light suddenly turned off. Now, I was playing Luigiβs mansion, a game that scared me to death as a kid, so take this with a grain of salt as well, but I saw the foggy figure floating directly in front of me this time being much more clear.
My heart dropped and so did my GameCube controller as the figure stared at me, then gradually floated away into my ceiling. Once gone, the light flickered a bit, then turned back on. I quickly got up and sprint out of the room downstairs to my family. But didnβt receive the comfort I once had. That night, I was woke by my uncle, and taken away from my home to my grandmothers. The home was nice, but it was a lot for me to take in. I also didnβt mention that I had a sibling, but she is irrelevant. She never experienced any of this, Iβve been alone in these experiences and have never really talked about them before. The new home was, home. I no longer lived with my mother and father, but instead lived with my grandparents. I didnβt really wanna say why it happened, but I suppose it does need context.
But my parents were sick and using a very addictive substance. And I think it began after I saw the apparition. I didnβt realize this then though, obviously. And another thing I hadnβt realized was that behind the woods by the house, was a graveyard. I didnβt figure this out until one day I decided
... keep reading on reddit β‘A common argument I've heard from Atheists is that if God were real, then why would He not simply appear before us proving His existence? If this were to happen, though, would you actually then believe? There's countless accounts all around the world of apparitions, miracles, exorcisms, etc. I myself can attest to experiencing a physical supernatural event that lasted for about a month (supernatural activity in a house I lived in). We're talking thousands upon thousands of people with similar stories of the supernatural, divine, and demonic. We really only have three options, then, of looking at this: They're all lying; they're crazy; they're telling the truth.
I find it hard to believe that all of them are lying. It's even harder to believe that they're crazy. Again, relating to my own experience, I, obviously, know I'm not lying. I also know I'm not crazy as I have no mental problems like that and the people I was living with experienced it as well (it's a long story, but if interested I'll explain). The only clear answer to me, then, is that they're telling the truth. Maybe not all of them, but not that many people can be lying/crazy.
The only real objection I've heard to this is that various religions all report similar events, however, I have my own thoughts on that that would then lead us into an entirely different conversation (I do not think other religions are lying about this for the reasons I listed above). This argument is more a case for theism, not necessarily Christianity; for the sake of this argument, then, assume that we're referring to just a "god" and not necessarily Christianity.
EDIT: I just got on to reddit and I had 225 notifications. I'll try to respond to as many as I can but there's no way I can respond to everyone.
Hello, long time lurker here but I have an experience that might be of interest to this community. Let me preface this post with some info prior to this event I always believed that "paranormal" events could be explained rationally and scientifically. (Un)Fortunately, this series of events completely shattered my disbelief. Sorry for the long post and please know I am omitting some of the minor details that I deemed not worthy of finding their way into this post.
So our experience starts when (R, M & myself A) decided to go to Southern Missouri to go to R & M's grandparent's property right outside of the town of Pilot Knob. (The location of an American civil war battle) It was late June and no one had occupied the house for a month or so because the grandparents travel the US in an RV during the summer. So we figured we would go down shoot some guns, ride four-wheelers, and have a bonfire to just relax for a weekend. When we got to the property we unlocked the side door to step inside & put beer in the fridge and turn on the AC so we could sleep comfortably that evening. In hindsight, we all noticed something was off right away. R & M had spent a lot of time here as kids but this was my first visit so I said nothing about the uneasy feeling I had entering the torrid home. The sun was going down and we were all tired from a week of work but figured this evening would be good to clean our rifles and just talk for a while while we started working on one of the packs of beer we brought.
R turned the radio on and I plugged in my phone (15% alert) just before going to the bathroom at the end of the hall. This is when truly odd and unexplaiable things started happening. As I walked down the hall there was one door to the master bedroom on my left and on the right two doors leading to smaller kids/guest rooms. the doors were all slightly ajar so I peaked into them out of curiosity. I went into the bathroom and while I was doing my business I heard something going into one of the rooms on the right. I thought nothing of this as I assumed the room I looked into was M's old room and he was getting something. As I leave the bathroom the door is closed and I felt compelled to open the door and see if he was still in the room. I did this and no one was in the room, odd but I figured he grabbed what he needed and headed back to the living room. So I suppressed my confusion at the noises and rejoined the guys in the living room.
At this point around
... keep reading on reddit β‘My husband and I got into a pretty bad fight this weekend. We have been going through some difficult times, and our stresses came to a head. At one point after I had been crying, I began rubbing my eyes and when I stopped and looked up at my husband, I saw an apparition of his deceased Mother behind him in the corner of the room. The apparition was hazy, blurry, but I could make out the outline of her face, white shirt, and Auburn hair. The overall image was opaque and somewhat glowing. I could not make out her facial features, but I was instantly taken over by a knowing that it was her. There was no emotion in her presence, I got the sense that she wanted me to know that she was there and that she was observing and overall I felt comforted. I was not frightened, the vision felt reassuring that she was looking out for both of us. Almost as soon as the vision appeared, it faded away. I didnβt say anything to my husband in the moment because I didnβt want to upset him, as we were both already quite upset and overwhelmed with the negativity of the situation and stress. Ever since her passing, around the time my husband and I first got together, I have viewed her as somewhat of a guardian angel for me and speak to her often in my mind. I have sensed her presence before, but this was the first time she has ever appeared. I was not thinking of her at all when she appeared, I believe that our heightened emotional states created an energy field that she was able to use to manifest. I told my husband about it the next day when we resolved our argument. It felt intensely emotional to recall the experience. She has visited in dreams to other family members and has given signs through flickering of lights, but I am the first that has seen her apparition while awake and fully conscious (we were also completely sober when this occurred).

I think a lot of what people like Elizondo, Nolan, and Loeb have been alluding to recently describes the control system Jacques VallΓ©e writes about in The Invisible College. This is speculative analysis and I of course may be way off base, but this is my interpretation of what's being put out there by lately by big names involved in UFO research.
These are a few excerpts from the book explaining the control system.
>I propose the hypothesis that there is a control system for human consciousness. I have not determined whether it is natural or spontaneous; whether it is explainable in terms of genetics, of social psychology, or of ordinary phenomenaβor if it is artificial in nature, and under the power of some superhuman will. It may be entirely determined by laws that we have not yet discovered.
>A civilization such as ours, which is entirely oriented toward what it regards as technical progress, cannot afford long to ignore the apparition in the sky of objects that defy the laws of its physics and the performance of its rocket planes. Within a few years the advanced countries will place on this problem, openly or in secret, their best physicists, their best intelligence specialists, their best computer scientists. But they may be powerless to utilize their expertise, because the phenomenon fits none of these categories. If this is so, then UFOs can never be analyzed or conceived, because they are the means through which manβs concepts are being rearranged. All we can do is to trace their effects on humans.
>We have seen that the control system operates like a thermostat. It progresses by oscillations, drawing from the antagonism of fire and ice, warm and cold, evil and good, all myths for the feeble minds of men, equally bound by higher laws. For hot and cold are only relative to a mean, two appearances of a single fact, the motion of molecules. Few people have grasped both the physics and the beauty of it.
>What is the variable being controlled in this control system? Thermostats control temperature; gyroscopes control the direction in which a rocket flies. What could a paranormal phenomenon control? I suggest that it is human belief that is being controlled and conditioned.
In this tweet reply, Stanford geneticist Garry Nolan suggests human civilization has been influenced in the past by the phenomenon, simply by showing themselves in certain ways (i.e. UFOs).
>Think

The prelude to The Fall:
>Where one god comes the others will surely follow. Thatβs what makes the power of Chaos so dangerous. We used to think we understood them, before The Fall. We used to laugh at how bombastic and primitive they were, but they know how to persist better than any mortal and how to take advantage of the smallest opening
>We dedicated ourselves to much higher pursuits: the perfection of literature, of art, of dance, of sport, and of acting. Our striving for the perfect aesthetic became enshrined within our culture, our religion, and our politics. You clumsy humans think that you know sadness and joy, yet your emotions are mere whims and passing phases to the feelings of our people. You cannot know such happiness as we know, nor the dark depths of our anger and rage. We are a passionate kin and our quest for achievement became greater and greater. There was nothing to fear. We were kings of the stars, why should we not find every pleasure that the universe has to offer? That became the guiding principle of my peoples, that of self-gratification. Why should we not find what sensations we can? For life, all life, is ultimately transitory and ends. There is no need to worry about the future, no need to regret the past, for such things are foolishness. No, far better to enjoy the moment and not consider the consequences."
>"You became a society of hedonists?" Gideon asked as Vect's attention seemed to waver, lost in thought elsewhere.
>"Hmm? Yes, hedonists is the word you would use," Vect agreed, focusing back on Gideon. "As you might expect, there were some opposed to this. Dull traditionalists, short-sighted fools who didn't have the vision to share in the ecstatic society that we would create. They spoke out against the pleasure cults, yet in turn many of them were to see the benefits of utter self-fulfillment. Others, unfortunately, failed to see the wisdom of such enlightened behavior and continued to speak out. Some of them fell under the blades themselves, while many of them opted to flee, fearing that some cataclysm would befall our people, as if we were committing some great sin and that a thunderbolt from the gods would strike us down. They renounced all pleasures of the flesh an

Iβm in a constant but vague hallucinatory state. Some examples being: the ground is always βbreathingβ when I look at it, faces morph a lot when I talk to people and other small things like that.
Iβve had negative episodes a few years back where i saw and heard very unpleasant things and it evoked extreme paranoia but Iβve dealt with that now and Iβm quite good at distinguishing hallucinations from reality.
My boyfriend is a big advocate for the benefits of LSD and Iβve had a few friends ask me if Iβd try it with them. Iβm interested but a little hesitant, are the benefits worth the risk of negatively impacting my hallucinatory state? How high would that risk be?
Most inexperienced people Iβve asked are very against the idea but I think itβs because permanent hallucinations sound scary to them, whereas since itβs my βnormalβ Iβm not scared of the frequency so much as the quality. I just wouldnβt want the risk of a bad trip being semi permanent if that makes sense.
Also Iβm thinking, is it possible that my risk of having a bad trip is lower since Iβm very experienced at dealing with apparitions and hallucinations? As a side note I hallucinate a lot when I smoke weed but can always stay calm even when things get freaky. I donβt know how relevant that is though since I assume hallucinogenics are very different.
Anyway, would you do in my situation?
TIA :)
EDIT: thank you so much to all the replies, everyone on here has been so informative not only regarding LSD and their experiences but through suggesting possible causes for my hallucinations (some of which Iβll look more into.) Due to majority opinion Iβve decided not to mess with acid until I get more clarity on whatβs going on with me :) even then it seems best for me to stay away from hallucinogenics regardless of a diagnosis. Thanks again all!
Not a particularly eventful encounter but I'd like to share it anyway. I was outside of my apartment building and started walking towards the office where the mailboxes are located. It's dark outside but there are building lamps that keep the complex lit. Between my building and the office is another apartment building. I saw someone with their back turned to me standing near a bike rack near the building's entrance. They were wearing a black hoodie and black pants. Which is exactly what I was wearing too actually. As I got closer to that building they started to casually walk across the road. And before they even made it to the other side, they vanished in the blink of an eye. I was super confused too because they were so solid and moved just like anyone else. Gave me the chills, but I was also excited. I've seen plenty of ghosts in my lifetime but few were as solid as that one. I've also never seen one dissappear so quickly while completely in view. Though what drew my attention in the first place was that it seemed darker than normal in that direction. Almost as if a light had burned out or something. But I could still see and I spotted them. I suppose it could have possibly been a trick of the mind making something out of the darkness, but I doubt it.
I work in a group home and there is a resident that will speak to you in the second person and can make his voice sound exactly like yours. Iβve walked in his room to see a woman sitting on his bed and him having a conversation with her. When he is here at the house, weird things happen. Iβve heard weird noises in this house and I personally know of 2 people that have passed in this house. I have heard that spirits are attracted to disabled individuals. Does anyone else have experience with this or have any input?
My childhood home was built in the 70s, so not super old, and weβre only the second or third family to live there. Iβve been very in touch with the paranormal since I was a child. Or at least, very much a believer. My grandfather was the same way, claiming to have seen multiple spirits in his lifetime.
My grandparents live in Britain and I grew up in the states. When they used to visit, they would stay up to two months over summers, and they would stay in my bedroom. I would stay a room over with my sister. When my grandparents visited, they were here for so long that we referred to my room as their room.
When I was around 13, my grandfather got sick in the UK. He went into surgery, and everyone including the doctors expected him to pull through. My parents, my sister and I were in the states at the time, we were all anxious waiting to hear how the surgery went.
I deal with anxiety differently, instead of wanting to be with my family as we waited for news I went to my room and wrote in my journal. My bedroom door was wide open as I sat and wrote.
From the corner of my eye, I saw a figure walk into my room. It was tall, like my grandfather, swift, and dark. Like it looked like a black figure with something trailing behind it. I could sort of feel the presence walk into my room, like I wasnβt alone. I looked up and it was gone.
Minutes later, we get a call that my grandfather had passed. It was a shock since everyone expected him to pull through and it actually ended up being a vital mistake by the surgeon (who went to trial).
Months later, I told my family and they said that I was just stressed and seeing things. Yes, I was anxious, but we all fully expected him to pull through.
My room after that never felt the same. While I was not scared at all about that presence, years later one summer when I was home from college I felt something tug on my sheets. My grandfather was a really good, loving man. This spirit or whatever it was did not feel like him, it felt horrifying. Eventually, I also heard tapping on the window next to my bed. I never looked because I was too scared, but it was happening every night at around the same time.
It got to the point that my mom had Orkin come and make sure there were no bugs/animals in the walls or on the roof near or above my room. There wasnβt anything.
Not knowing how to make me feel better, my mom gave me my grandfatherβs brothers (who he was very close with, and he died almost exactly a month after my grand
