A list of puns related to "Animal Welfare"
My credentials
Iβve worked in animal welfare for 15 years as a paid professional. I work at shelters, Iβm not a volunteer. 8 of those years were spent at a high-volume, open-admission shelter in a large east coast city with a contract for code enforcement. Iβm not from NYC ACC, but I know a little bit about what goes on inside a sheltering system in a big city.
Some facts about cats
Things they like [NB Iβve fostered ~300 kittens. I might know a little bit. Thereβs definitely still a lot I donβt know]
Things they donβt like [NB Some cats like/love these things, but it generally requires intentional training/desensitization/behavioral modification]
What I see
Seriously, the photos that make me most sad are the cat selfies with Matisse passed out. Itβs like, he survived a trauma and his body shuts down.
What can be done?
Short answer - nothing. In the US animals are considered property and most laws and city codes are concerned with (human) public safety. Think dangerous dogs, rabies outbreaks, bite cases, hoarding (of the collecting animals variety), dog fighting, cruelty.

He has a 2 year old boxer-Pitt mix. The only thing sadder than my roommates life is the life he gives to his dog. Iβll be honest I absolutely hate his dog, but I know itβs not the dogs fault because heβs had such a shitty owner. The dog has no manners because he was never disciplined for jumping on people, he was never told no for being aggressive towards people or dogs (luckily heβs not super people aggressive, but he will bark at strangers and jump at people to knock them down). This dog isnβt even house trained, and his owner literally pretends not to see his piss or shit around the house to avoid cleaning it up. Heβs left piss and shit in the living room for over a week before cleaning it up (when he wanted to have friends over to watch a hockey game and realized we werenβt going to clean up after his dog).
Eventually he started keeping his dog in his own room when he had to go to work so it wouldnβt go to the bathroom in the common areas. But that was short lived as the dog started just going all over his room. So he started leaving him in a crate- which Iβm okay with to an extent.. however, he doesnβt even bother to leave him a toy to keep him occupied. To make it even worse he leaves him in the crate for way too long with the record being 21 hours. He doesnβt arrange for anyone to come let his dog outside. A new roommate moved in and he asked her to do it for a bit before she said she couldnβt anymore (he was only asking her because sheβs cute and wanted to get close to her). He regularly leaves the dog in the crate for 18-20 hours so he can go get drunk after work. On Fridayβs he will leave the dog even longer. Last weekend he put the dog in the crate at 7am, came home and let him out for 2 minutes at 4pm, then put him immediately back in his crate so He could go party. He didnβt come back until 2pm the next day meaning he was basically in a crate for 30 hours. Another time he left the dog alone for 2 days in his room without making any arrangements to have him let out.
He tries to say the dog has separation anxiety and thatβs why he goes to the bathroom inside. I donβt think so because he also pees and poops around the house when roommate is here playing video games, AND roommate has taken no action to help with separation anxiety.
He regularly forgets to feed his dog to the point that my roommate used to give him food and water when roommate was at work.
... keep reading on reddit β‘I live in southern Somerset County, in a small town of about 3,000. We've got someone running a hoarding/breeding operation in the center of town: they've got 43 dogs (according to the ACO) packed onto a standard residential lot, and they've started breeding & selling puppies. The place is a nightmare: smell, noise, you name it. The animal control officer (ACO) won't act to enforce the law, though, and after talking with the town, I found out why: the owner once held an animal control license, so the officer is letting him be his own ACO. The owner gets to decide whether or not he's violating the law.
The case in question is not exactly subtle. Like I said, it's a regular house in the middle of town, not a farm or anything. The dogs are kept outside in a dirt yard in small pens or on very short ties. They bark all the time, because they don't get any stimulation, and the noise is audible from my property, a mile away. The owners don't clean, and there's a stench of urine that envelops the surrounding properties and, if rain hasn't fallen in a few days, can be smelled on Main St. (which runs parallel to the street where this property is). Also, the dogs are fed raw meat on the bone, with the scraps thrown in an open dumpster on the side that attracts rodents. The dogs are out in all types of weather, from 95-degree days to subzero temps, and they're mostly short-haired breeds (beagles, pitbulls, Labs, mixes), so it's not like they're bred for it. The place is right next door to our town's major employer, a shoe factory, and near a bridge that's a local landmark. It's notorious locally and becoming a landmark of its own; I know friends from out of town who won't even go down the street because the sight makes them sick.
The violations of animal welfare and nuisance laws are clownishly obvious. There's the constant barking, for one. The leads also aren't anywhere near the length state law requires for dogs, and the "homes" they have (plywood/particle board boxes with an open hole cut in the side that soak through in the rain) don't have the required weather protection (baffle etc.) or R-value. The dogs aren't kept in anything resembling "humanely clean" conditions (some are basically living on sheets of frozen urine in the winter; others are kept in narrow pens on wooden pallets that I don't think are ever cleaned

Update #2: PI asked us to write a report on Friday evening about the incident. Then on Sunday sent us some euthania guidelines.
Update #3: The entire lab (PI, grad student, and I) had a meeting. PI kept reiterating that the situation should have been kept internally. Doesn't overtly say it, but basically blames me for the shit show. He kept on saying how much this is affecting HIM and how much paperwork HE has to fill out. He also has several meetings scheduled for this week and the official investigation will be done on Thursday.
During the meeting the grad student threatened me, "something is going to happen to you, I don't know what but something." I immediately asked if it was a threat and she's said, "sure, since you think everything is a threat while smirking." Emailed HR immediately and left the lab.
Apologies for all the updates but documenting everything is helping me process the shit show.
Fellow labrats, I have a dilemma and I need advice on how to handle the situation. On Monday of this week the grad student in our lab was carrying out an experiment on newborn pups. She was going to do an ex vivo experiment where she would collect the skin and culture it for 7 days. We usually euthanize the pups by decapitation but she wanted to drown them in 70% ethanol. She had already collected their tails and placed them in small vials when my back was turned. I tried to reason with her but she was very resistant and got really angry with me. She stormed off and left me to deal with her mess. I promptly euthanized the pups and informed my PI of the situation. He wants to keep the issue within the lab and does not want to escalate it. This is not the first time that this grad student has treated the mice questionably.
She and I used to get along but she is now acting childish by ignoring me and making rude comments in lab meetings about my performance. I've asked her to stop but she continues. My PI is aware of the situation and has both warned us to get along otherwise HR will get involved. I sent out an email yesterday that if her behavior continues then I will leave the lab even tho I don't want to. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks you.
As per this tweet, Australia is awarded a 5/5 rating from the World Organisation of Animal Health.

I feel like I'm crazy here. I've watched Dominion, I've seen what the treatment of animals looks like in Australian farms. If what's shown in Dominion constitutes 5/5, aka "Can do no better", then I truly believe these organisations are nothing more than theatre for trying to calm consumers about the conditions that animals live and die in during their exploitation
Am I right in thinking the whole system is corrupt?
Chickens are brutal and nasty. They will turn on each other in a heartbeat, pecking the weak and sick to death. Is there any question that, if the tables were turned, chickens would be keeping US packed in cages our whole lives? They are a-holes.
I eat mostly a vegan diet, and I am willing to ethically source beef and pork when I eat it, which is not often, but no way I am paying extra for a chicken who got to walk around in the open being a free-range a-hole.
Honestly, mating like Goliath Beetles is the new rabbits! I started with a singleton that kept dying so I put a couple in and I've now sold over 40 of the buggers in about 2 hours. I can rake in about $3k roughly every 2 in-game months just in Goliath Beetles!
Edit: I'm up to $8k every 20 mins.
Hey yo!
Tonightβs donation was suggested by u/folebear and itβs a slam dunk of a suggestion. PAWS, similarly to Philadoptables which we did in this thread has a goal of making Philly a no kill city and you can also adopt through them, which is something Iβm sure we can all get behind. We here at r/sixers love the animals. Raise the cats.
Read more about them here:

Donate here:

As usual, please make a donation win or lose! Iβm fairly decent at these predictions, but you never know. Tonight is a minimum $50 for me, bonus $25 if they win, and another bonus $25 if Ben shoots a three.
Thanks, and I love you all!
Mike
EDIT: payment info. $75 and covered 3% for fees. Thanks love you guys!!

Christian ethics do nothing to have people to stop causing industrial-scale horror movie animal suffering. It is therefore insufficient as an ethical framework. It's worth finding an ethical framework that you agree with. A few examples of compatible theories are rights-based, utilitarianism or deontology.
Hi all, I'm moving to the Albany area in about two weeks, and I was looking to meet new people who share similar interests.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any active animal rights/welfare organizations or groups, or any vegan groups? Or any historical societies/museums/etc. that accept volunteers? Or, less likely, any history book clubs?
I'm also really into hiking/outdoor activities like kayaking, if anyone had any suggestions for that. I do plan on volunteering at an animal shelter, but I just wanted to make sure I knew of all the opportunities out there. I'm a woman in my early 30's, if that matters.
Libertarians don't like to interfere in other people's personal lives even if they are hurting themselves The only situation where government should interfere is when people use their freedom to hurt other people But how does this apply to animals Should the government regulate how animals are slaughtered? Because a big part of the libertarian view is being anti regulation mainly because it hurts economic efficiency making goods more expensive Some slaughter houses are very inhumane and some practices may be able to reduce stress and pain in animals but this might require more government regulation which could make meat more expensive in general What is a good solution to this issue?
Hi,
The Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill currently does not extend to Cephalopods and Crustaceans. This means that they will not be classed as sentient animals in the UK, and therefore will not be afforded protection from mistreatment and cruelty.
I'm sure everyone on this subreddit is aware that Cephalopods and Crustaceans definitely are sentient, and deserve legal protection just as much as any other animal.
Please help by signing this e-petition, which calls for them to be included in the bill.
