A list of puns related to "Altavista"
Hello,
I am going to be using a USDA loan to buy a home in Virginia and am primarily interested in being close to Roanoke. That being said what's available right now and appealing is mostly a good 45-60+ min away. I am trying to source input on what it's really like to live in the Gretna/Altavista area, smith mountain lake, or outside Lynchburg. (Areas i've found homes I like)
I'm a single gal in my late twenties with a few dogs and enjoy hiking, kayaking, and bonfires but also live music, dive bars, the food and other amenities/conveniences that can come with a city. I work from home so access to reliable internet is Paramount and while I can use a carriers website to confirm availability for the address I want your opinion. Is it frustrating trying to get good service, is EarthLink cable any good/ what isp do you have? How's the cell service? How is driving around that area? I'm from FL and love the cold but have never driven in cold conditions, just visited the blue ridge area last fall.
Thank you for any input and advice!
In the early days of the internet, no one really thought much of search engines. There was AltaVista, which sucked, but wasn't obvious at the time, and then there was Yahoo, which was far more preoccupied with trying to be the be-all end-all internet media site to care for search. The prevailing knowledge then was that there was no money in search. AltaVista sucked, but, Yahoo thought, why bother changing that? Look at all these other interesting things internet is doing that do make money!
Along comes a scrappy internet startup called Google, saying they've got a a far better search engine that anything seen before. AltaVista, Yahoo, and AOL executives scoffed. "There's no money in the search engine business, everybody knows that!". But Larry and Sergej remained undeterred. Their thesis was that they were building something that was not just marginally better, but significantly, tremendously better, so much so that it was going to change the game. Today, we know this as the "x10 rule", the idea that a competitor in a space where there is a clear undisputed leader can only unseat that leader if it's not just marginally better, but ten times better or more. Their hunch was, of course, correct, but almost no one gave two shits about these two startup founders until time proved them right.
Next week, Coinbase will go public. The event will mark an important landmark in the history of cryptocurrency, but just like AOL going public in the early nineties, I believe greater things are yet to come and that there's still plenty of history yet to unfold. If you believe what I believe, hang on tight and stick to your convictions, and you'll be part of history in the making.
I was digging around ancient websites on an emulated Amiga, as you do, & came across this.
