Ailette Puns

A defensive and/or decorative element of armour popular with late XIII to early XIV century knights. Ailette later evolved into a more functional besagew. Link to wiki page.

I'm still working on my device, as its a non-conventional beast (it's a peryton) and i have a pair of unpainted ailettes to be worn with my hauberk. My question is, do the left and right ailette need to be mirrored to both face forward or in the same direction (one forward and one back)?

Program Outline

Thomas-Brandt, manufacturers of the SNEB rocket pod, have received a contract from the South Korean government to develop a higher-powered successor weapon, the FAAR, or Fusée Avancée à Ailettes Repliables. The FAAR will be a more powerful and more versatile guided weapons system, designed to destroy bunkers, tanks, and enemy infantry with equal alacrity.

Design Overview

The FAAR will be a 70mm folding-fin rocket with a nose-mounted laser guidance system, controlling the rocket’s trajectory by actuating the fins. The weapon will be designed and manufactured with a variety of warheads and in a variety of pods, designed for use by helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft alike. Like the CRV7 rocket it is intended to improve upon, the FAAR’s large size will enable it to achieve substantial velocities, causing severe damage to enemy armored vehicles with kinetic warheads.

Warheads

The FAAR will feature a variety of warhead options, along with provisions for more in the future. Planned warheads for the initial development program are

• High Explosive: Singular high explosive charge

• Kinetic Penetrator: A single large armor-piercing tungsten rod, for use against armored vehicles

• Multiple Kinetic Penetrator: A bundle of smaller armor-piercing rods that disperse at a distance from the target, for use against groups of lightly armored vehicles

• Semi-Armor Piercing High Explosive Incendiary: An armor-penetrating explosive charge designed to destroy the contents of hardened bunkers, especially munitions depots, fuel stores, motor pools, or aircraft hangars

R&D

Development is expected to cost 650 million dollars over the next three years, with Thomas-Brandt funding 65% of program costs as a private venture and the remaining 35% being contributed by the South Korean government. Production facilities will be established in both France and South Korea.
