Should I pursue an ADN at a community college or continue taking prerequisites at my four year school and apply to BSN programs?

Im currently at four year university without a nursing program. My main plan is to take BSN prereq courses for the first two years and then transfer, but recently I’ve worried that since BSN programs are so competitive, I might be stranded with no degree and no letter of acceptance to a nursing program and a bunch of debt.

Would pursuing an ADN degree and then a BSN be a better route?

Fundamentals/Pharmacology 1st semester ADN student

So i just started my first semester of an ADN program. I am on a modified schedule meaning i am only in pharm/fundamentals.

It is my first week of class and i am already overwhelmed. Many students are repeat course takers due to failing last semester and it is intimidating.

Although i currently have a 4.0 for my prerequisites we are required to use examsoft and must have an 80 average on our tests. ( one class has 5 exams, the other 6). I am totally for putting in the work but it is week one and i feel the burn out already.( 8 chapters per class for prework)

We had prework and i have no idea what to study - i have taken taken so many notes and i feel i am over doing it but don’t want to miss any important things that may be on these tests, which are at all critical thinking problems. I asked a few repeaters for help and they are not too open ..

So I’m reaching out to see what helped students who have taken these courses : study guide books? Practice tests (where are good ones?) pre made notes off Etsy? Reading the book? Podcasts?

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! (Also posted in another Reddit group, looking for all the advice i can get lol)

Got into my cc ADN program!!

Hey everyone! I'm starting the nursing program at my local community college in 2 weeks. And also got a CNA/PCT job at a magnet hospital 20 mins from my house!

I just wanted to share my life and get opinions from some of you!

So, I spend 9k on my nursing prereqs. I don't get aid. I know it's a lot. But, like 3k were from when I was a teaching major. I regret that so much, and it was such a waste of money and time. Anyway, the next 2 years are gonna cost me 13k. So, what's your opinion on this? I'm not qualified for aid or pell grants sadly :( I'll also be doing an RN to BSN bridge right after my ADN. And it'll cost me around 5k. Is this all a good price point for a degree in nursing? So, 26k. How much is your expected cost for your degree? Or how much was it?

If you think it's a lot, any recommendations for cheaper BSN schools? I'll be spending 20k give or take with books included for the next 3 years. SO anything cheaper would be great recommendations.

I'm also working as a PCT, 2 days a week 12-hour shifts. I'm not bragging, but I'm pretty good at time management and so far, I've been a good student at school. Do you guys think 24 hours a week of working is manageable? I'll be doing weekend day shifts.

Overall, I'm very happy that I got into the program! I'll hopefully have my BSN before turning 22!! ANd getting into the program has made life so much brighter!

ADN starting sept 2023 or chamberlain a BSN starting may 2022?

Hi nursing students hope everyone is well :)

I was accepted to my county colleges ADN program for fall 2023 since fall 2022 is filled. The total cost of the program is beautifully affordable! $25K out of county resident.

Then I was accepted to May 2022 for chamberlain BSN near my town, overall tuition with prerequisites being done is $65K+++++

With that said is it beneficial to just start chamberlain? Just because it is a BSN and starts sooner? Or the ADN since it’s affordable and I can do it at a doable pace since prerequisites are done?

I applied to a few other county colleges and fall 2023 is the start date still. My GPA isn’t high enough for an ABSN in the area as well.

Being a nurse is my passion and I’m unsure if starting earlier to finish is worth the debt accrued?

Please let me know what you think

For reference I have zero student loans from undergrad.

ADN Nursing School revoked my acceptance because of a flagged background check

Hello just wanted to seek advice from this sub Incase someone else has experienced anything similar.

As the title says, my acceptance to an ADN program was revoked because my background check was flagged. I have a misdemeanor from 2018. I tried to talk to the dean but was told I wouldn't be able to be taken in because of the contracts they have with local hospitals don't allow anyone with a flagged background check.

I was wondering if anyone knew if applying for a private school would result in the same outcome or if they are more lenient on a background check than a community college?

Absn, ADN or LPN?

Hey guys. So I’ve been contemplating on becoming a nurse for 7 years now. I’m ready to finally take the plunge. I have a ba and just graduated with my masters in public admin but the field is incredibly low paying and jobs are scarce. I have 19k in student loans. I was thinking of doing the LVN, then adn and work while obtaining my bsn online. I’m thinking of taking this route because I do not want to incur massive amount of debt. Also the lvn will allow me to get my feet wet in this field. I could go for my absn but the programs near me are 60-92k and I just refuse to accumulate that much debt. I was also thinking of ADN programs but my grades during undergrad and grad school weren’t the best 3.1 gpa for both degrees & apparently the programs are very competitive (I battled cancer and worked full time while going to school full time so it took a toll on my grades) for reference I am 28 and felt I have wasted years of my life already so I want to make the best decision! Thank you in advance!

how are students in ADN programs? how are the students who graduated from an ADN program?

okay, so i made a post maybe last month? about how my family is disappointed in me for choosing an ADN program. at first i was very confident in my choice, but i am still being bombarded with negativity and it is starting to make me nervous and regret my decision. my family telling me that i won’y find a job, i’ll be getting my BSN “late” and i’ll be “too old”, and that i will be stuck in life. some have even gone as far as to show me what hospitals won’t accept someone who has an ADN.

I just want to check with actual ADN students and graduates. how has your time been in your program? do you feel like you have a lesser chance than others with their BSN? do you feel like you wasted your time getting it? was it/is it hard to find work?

ADN vs BSN

Hello, I am a nursing student at community college. A lot of my CNA coworkers are getting their RN degrees through 4 year schools. I can’t help but feel like I am learning significantly less or am less qualified to work at a hospital when compared to them. Idk how it works in other areas but where I live you can work at a hospital with a ADN. Anyone else from community colleges feel the same? For those of you that work at hospitals with ADN degrees, do you feel like you get treated differently or struggle more than nurses with BSN?

Should I take other classes required for a bsn during my adn program?

Hello everyone so I am about to start my adn program in august 2022 however my plan is to get the adn then do a rn to bsn program. The problem though is I still need classes for that rn to bsn like gen Chem, calculus 1, organic chemistry and a few others. Now the credits of my adn are only 10 max each sem so should I put these other classes I need with it or will it be too much?

I had my heart set on going for my ADN however Im now worried because of people I’ve seen say that many hospitals are implementing bsn as the minimum. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am about to graduate my ADN program and I have zero interest in pursuing my BSN

Can anyone convince me that it's worth doing?

I know you can get it paid for in full or partially by a lot of hospitals, but what is the point? Nurses I've talked to in WA told me they received a $1 raise. Has anyone gotten more than that? What other opportunities are there? Teaching? Fundamentally, I don't think there is much difference at all between an ADN RN and a BSN RN. I've heard some places are making it a requirement that you need to have it within 3 years of being hired, or even upon hiring. With such a huge shortage (that isn't going to change anytime soon), my options are endless to not be hindered by BSN requirements. I am not interested in writing research papers (that's what I've heard a BSN program is) for 3 quarters to get a $1 raise. I have heard that anyone with an MSN doesn't make much more than someone with their ADN. NPs don't make much more as well, according to a quick google search!

I can pursue my nursing education by getting certifications through hospitals, trying different specialties, and just get experience working in general.

I understand if you want to become an NP and take on more responsibility, but what other reasons are there for a BSN other than a bridge to an NP?

I can definitely be persuaded, but what I've learned thus far, it sounds like a complete waste of time!

Should I apply to an ADN program as well?

I’m a sophomore pre-nursing major and will be applying to the traditional 4 year-BSN program this year. I’ll also be applying to other BSN programs and was wondering if I should apply to ADN or LPN programs as well just in case I get rejected from the BSN programs? I have 3 semesters of prerequisites left (this semester and my junior year) My junior year is another prerequisites year so I can catch up on classes then I go into my second junior year and senior year as a nursing student. I was also wondering if I did a bridge program for RN to BSN, how long would it take? Same with LPN to RN or LPN to BSN.

Should I plan for ADN or BSN?

Since I am low income and an ADN would be much easier to earn especially after getting my LVN license & my place of work could pay for my BSN classes, I am wondering if ADN is even accepted nowadays to get a job as a nurse. I live in a metropolitan area in Cali and would love to get my ADN first to get work experience, earn money faster and finish school more quickly. School can be super hard and frustrating especially having to do all at once. Does anyone have advice?

dual enrollment (concurrent adn & bsn)

i’m in my last semester of pre nursing right now and getting ready to apply to my adn program so i’m thinking about how i want to approach my end goal of getting a bsn

i currently work for starbucks and they pay for tuition to attend arizona state university online, which a lot of my coworkers do and love. however, since it’s online, they only offer rn to bsn courses, which sucks because i don’t want to keep working as a barista if i’m already licensed, especially since the hospital network i want to work for pays for your bsn if you don’t have one.

however, i noticed that they also have a concurrent enrollment program for students in adn programs. depending on when i start, i’d be on track to get my bsn a semester after graduating from my adn program.

has anyone here ever done dual enrollment before? is the workload too much or was it manageable?

Question for ADN students

Hey everyone, I just got accepted today. Really stoked. I have 1/4 of the program completed already (a+p2,micro,psy,math), so I will only be taking 3 classes per semester. Would I be best off not working during that time, or will I have enough downtime here and there enough to fit 20 hours of work in and still get A’s without stress? I’m lucky I have the option not to work from savings, but it would definitely help stop the bleeding a bit working part time. What are your thoughts?
