Unexpectedly got rid of my dark spots (acanthosis nigricans) but now I have some questions

Tw: pregnancy

Hi! So I've suffered with the dark patches for a few years. I gained about 50lb over the course of a year and a half and they got worse. I wasn't insecure about my body, but I was very insecure about the dark patches. They were really bad behind my neck, under my breasts and a bit more mild under my arms. I was prescribed tretinoin which worked a little bit, but nothing like this.

In September I found out I was pregnant! Nearly immediately, the dark patches went away completely. I lost 10lb in my first trimester but I don't think it's because of the weight loss. I'm convinced it must be a hormone thing? Has anyone experienced this before? I did have low progesterone in the early stages of my pregnancy, and I was prescribed a supplement.

I guess my question now is, should I bring this up to my gyno? My dermatologist? I guess I just don't really know how to approach this, and have it continue to stay away lol It was a huge insecurity of mine and I'm afraid of it coming back once I'm no longer pregnant

Acanthosis nigricans (Darker skin on folds) in PCOS got better after controlling insulin resistance?

Once you control inflammation and insulin resistance naturally...does the acanthosis nigricans gets better? Does the pigmentation gets lighter? Or goes away completely at some point? Has anyone experienced improvement with this when their hormones got balanced using natural methods? Or medication worked for them?

Acanthosis Nigricans not getting better

Hello y’all, I’m a 23 y/o hispanic girl, battling with PCOS since age 12, but previously in my life, had very dark knees and elbows, and both had gotten better with my lifestyle changes and weight loss.

I am currently 5’1 and 56ish kg (I try not to weigh myself that often, it triggers me a bit.

My scarring is, obviously very bad, but the thing that bothers me, are my armpits, the contrast with my skin tone is so notorious that from a distance it just looks that I didn’t shave, that’s the reason why I got like 8 months without shaving, (like, the hair covering my ugly armpit skin) and when I did shave, armpits were looking a bit good, had some confidence to wear tank tops and bikinis, but when I left contraceptives (due to low income in the pandemic) my body just went nuts, acne all around my chin area, and all of the process of weight loss, skincare, diet, that I did throughout age 13 and 22, just vanished in a couple months.

I am fair skinned and every scar, and my armpits (not to speak about my private parts) just look very awful to me and it’s way too visible to just ignore them, and it’s shattering my confidence. Sorry for don’t β€œjust getting over it” or β€œaccepting my body the way it is”

I feel that there must be a specific regimen or eating habits out there that I might follow to get rid of those things in my body. I don’t really care about not trying a sweet or pastry ever again in my life, but… damn. I just want healthy skin.

Acanthosis Nigricans going away after 3 months of HIIT with no diet changes

Hi all! Undiagnosed but highly suspected IR cyster here.

Just wanted to share a recent victory with you all. I’ve been doing HIIT classes (Orange Theory) 3 days a week for about 3 months now, and as the title says, I haven’t made a whole lot of diet changes. I know I need to lower my carbs, but I haven’t been ready to take that step, so I haven’t lost weight yet.

BUT!

My husband told me my dark skin on the back of my neck (acanthosis nigricans) is almost gone. Also, I’ve been able to stop taking my depression meds. (Personal preference, absolutely no judgment to anyone that wants/needs them)

Just wanted to share these wins with you because so many people on here seem to focus on diet (which probably gives the best results honestly), but just adding some exercise may be able to help some symptoms as well!

Acanthosis Nigricans

As written in the title, I experienced for over a year some change on my foreskin. I initially thought it was due to some soap I was using or friction, but since I've tried putting creams on it, washing myself with just warm water and natural soap and everything I've decided to visit a dermatologist, who told me it's acanthosis nigricans.
He was weirded out, because he said it's really uncommon on male genitalia and that kinda scared me.

I'm extremely disgusted by my own penis because of it, since it looks like "dirty skin" and it even became darker and thicker than the rest of the skin and I don't know what to do because he told me I cannot put high urea concentration creams on my penis, because it would harm it.

I have no idea what to do and I'm extremely demoralized. Is there a solution that could help restoring my skin to its natural condition?

Acanthosis Nigricans/Darkness on the folds.

I'm 18 y/o girl, height 5'9ft and weight 80kg. I've acanthosis nigricans from very young age I start seeing darkness on my inner thighs under arms elbows and knees. At age 11 or 12 I diagnosed with high insulin resistance. I started metformin at the age 13 then I stopped taking metformin when I've reached to my ideal weight. But I haven't check my insulin levels. My parents are lil irresponsible they didn't take me to the docter. Anyways! My acanthosis nigricans never disappeared they only increased with time. I have very light skin with yellow undertones. My both parents don't really have any problem of discolouration so its not genetical. Now from past one year I have gained alot of weight again and I checked my insulin levels one month ago and again they are very high my docter prescribed me metformin 750mg twice a day. My question is: If my insulin level becomes normal and I lose 25-30 kg of fat. Does my Acanthosis nigricans go away? My skin literally looks like zebra. Acanthosis nigricans Temporary Cure

Hi everyone,

I keep seeing a lot of posts about people wondering what to do about their Aconthosis Nigricans (AN). As most of us know, it flairs up with insulin resistance so a low carb diet is best to cure it at the root.

However, I’ve also found out that The Ordinary Glycolic Toner also does the trick topically. Plus it’s $7!!

You need to do this every day or every other day and it’s always started fading for me in under two weeks when I have flares. It probably reduces about 90% of my AN.

Just soak a cotton pad and dab it on the area. Make sure to really soak the area down for a second or two. I use it after a shower on clean skin (on my neck, between my breasts, and my underarms.) Added bonus that it works great as a natural and safe deodorant.

Please keep in mind that this is what worked for me and may not work for you, but I hope this helps someone! If it works, let me know ❀️

Ozempic & PCOS. Weight loss, hair growth Acanthosis, insulin resistance

Hello PCOS Pals! How many of you have tried Ozempic to get the weight loss train moving? My doctor just prescribed it and I'm just wanting to know how your experiences have went. Background:I work out 4-5 days a week and have cut some carbs but just CANNOT seem to get the weight to move. My muscle tone is really starting to look good but the scale won't budge.. at all. Whats the point of having a big ass if you have a gut to match? I have quite a bit of weight to lose. CW: 260 GW: Maybe 165-175. I also have been soo blessed (please tell me you hear the sarcasm) with having Acanthosis and its been quite the gauge on how my progress has been (Lighter neck/under arms/leg crevices the better. When it all gets darker, well I just sucked at eating the right things). Honeslty I think I could be fat and happy but the acanthosis won't allow for it. I feel like a leper. Lastly hair. I'm balding at 31 when I used to have dense, long, hair that grew like a weed. So I'm hoping that ozempic helps the new diet change and exercise with getting weight moving. I'm starting to get discouraged. How have your experiences been? Also at what point did you cycle off of it?
