A list of puns related to "Western calligraphy"
Calligraphy is a prominent form of both art and communication. The Islamic and Western worlds both have their own calligraphic traditions, and those worlds have been in frequent contact for a long time. How did these forms of calligraphy influence each other, if at all?
I'm thinking of getting a heart skull tatted on the centre of my chest with the phrase MEMENTO MORI tatted backwards or mirrored on my left chest and the same for MEMENTO VIVERE on my right chest. I'd like to use it as a reminder to myself every morning and night that I'm mortal and my life here on Earth is limited and so I should live a more fulfilling, meaningful life according to my beliefs, ethics, pain, pleasure and passions.
I am assuming the use of the iPencil, but if there's a better alternative for learning calligraphy please let me know.
What I mean by this is that in Arabic calligraphy, you have these huge complex masterpieces, whereas western calligraphy seems... I don't know, just less pure art and more text with flourishes. For example, compare these two:

I don't know, maybe it's just because of the fact that I can't read Arabic that I perceive this differently, but what do you guys think?

Iโm wondering if anyone has recommendations for books about the history of Western and English calligraphy.
I know about โHistoire de la calligraphie franรงaiseโ by Claude Mediavilla (which is huge) and โMedieval Calligraphy: Its History and Techniqueโ by Marc Drogin (which only focuses on the medieval time period).
Iโm not looking for books that teach technique or a specific script. Iโm thinking of books that cover script development and history. TIA!
I am highly impressed by the work some of you have done with Japanese and Chinese stick ink (I'm looking firmly, but not exclusively, at you, /u/GardenOfWelcomeLies). Great shading of grey hues! On rereading Edward Johnston's Writing, Lettering and Illumination I noticed that he fancies stick ink, too. So that was the last straw. Fortunately, there's a shop in a neighbouring town that sells Japanese and Chinese tea as well as oriental calligraphy supply. While the staff is very helpful and knowledgable, I doubt they have experience with western calligraphy.
Can you advise me on getting ink stick & stone for broad edge calligraphy?
Guys, I am sorry if this question is strange, but i know a bit about Asian but nothing about western Calligraphy. In Asian Calligraphy there are style and I am wonder if Western Calligraphy has the same. I can find a lot of information about fonts, but that is not what i am look for. I want to know about written Western Calligraphy.
I would appreciate suggestions about which ink stick to buy for italic and Copperplate calligraphy. I want ink that is very, very black, on the cool side (tending to the blue rather than brown), and that makes fine hairlines. I am hoping to find one for $30 or less. Do you have suggestions? It seems that most of the ink sticks I am finding on line are evaluated on the basis of what is good for brush calligraphy instead of what I am looking for. I bought a stick ink on Amazon from China and it is not black enough. Thanks!
Im trying to put a poem into a vertical form, and having a LOT of trouble. If you have any examples of vertical script, yours or someone else's, I would love to see them for inspiration!
Would you guys agree that for a lot of Western calligraphy, the pen needs to be held at acute angles whereas to do South East Asian alphabets the pen should be held at an obtuse angle? I have only been experimenting with a Pilot Parallel at this point but it seems to make a difference.

There a many notable siblings in Fire Emblem: From the various Pegasus sisters to the Renais twins to the royal siblings of Nohr and Hoshido. But sometimes a character will have a sibling who is only mentioned, but not actually seen in game.
Today I will attempt to list every unseen sibling (of characters that we do get to see in some form). The list that I have so far may not necessarily be complete, so if you notice that I forgot someone, lack important information or flat out wrote something incorrect please inform me, so that I can edit the list accordingly.
With this out of the way, here is the list of all the characters with useen siblings in Fire Emblem (that I know of):
Anri Marcelus
Marcelus is Anri's younger brother who became the second King of Altea. Marth and Elice are technically Marcelus' descendants.
Castor Leen & 7 more Siblings
Castor has eight younger siblings who live with their mother. Since their father has gone missing and their mother fell ill after the birth of her ninth child. Castor needs money to take care of his family. Castor once promised one of his sisters named Leen that he would buy her clothes as a present, but by the time he brought said clothes she was gone. Leen has sold herself to slave merchants to earn money for their family. Castor eventually finds her dying body in a bar in Warren.
Caesar 1 Sister
Caesar's younger sister is sick and the main reason why he works as a mercenary is to earn money so that he can pay for the medicine his sister needs. Radd supports his friend's efforts to save his sister and if Caesar dies Radd will try to save her in his stead.
Luke 1 Brother
Luke has an older brother, who fell sick right before he would become a knight. Since their family has served in the Altean knights for generations, Luke was forced to become a knight in his brother's place, to protect the family's honor.
Roderick Multiple Sisters
Roderick comes from a poor family and when his mother died he had to take care of his younger sisters by doing all the cooking and sewing himself.
Celica & Conrad Multiple Siblings
Celica's and Conrad's father, King Lima, had many children with many concubines. All of them except for Celica and Conrad have been killed by Desaix's coup.
Gray 1 Sister
Gray has a sister who stays in Ram. According to Gray she loves to always get the last word in.
Tobin Multiple Siblings
Tobin's siblings still live in Ram

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Hello all!
My name is Marigold. I am 29/F living in Western Kentucky and I am hoping to find someone I can exchange hand written letters with. I am an avid calligraphy nut, but if my letters become too long I have to type them lol.
I enjoy Game of Thrones, World of Warcraft, floral arranging, writing fantasy novels, burning candles, bonfires, gardening and sitting with my husband in our rocking chairs on the porch at sunset.
I am some kind of pagan, still figuring it out. When I am not writing stories or feeding chickens on the homestead I am probably dying my hair or baking pies. Wanna know how to make your own blueberry jam? I've got a killer recipe haha.
I seem to always be bouncing from craft to craft. One day it is spinning my own yarn, the next I am making paper and binding books. I'm never still.
I am left leaning and everyone in my family is LGBTQ. I don't mind if you aren't any of those things, but please be kind.
If you are interested, please let me know!
It really does, I swear!
Li Xiaoji's iPhone beeps. Could she be here already? he wonders, swiping it on with a flick of his thumb. But no, its only a message on the foreign teachers WeChat group.
> the projector in grade 10 class 3 is broken
Xiaoji emits an audible sigh, switches the input method of his phone from Chinese to English, and writes the following:
> i tell computr teacher ,he go repairthank u
He then does absolutely no such thing, and proceeds to resume the game he was playing on his computer, one where he has to braindeadedly match tiles of the same color against the clock. Fucking foreign cunts, he mutters under his halitosis-laden breath. Always wasting his time with trivial bullshit. But such is the life of the assistant principal of the international department of Nongzhou Number 6 High School.
Li Xiaoji quickly gets overwhelmed with the avalanche of blue, red, yellow and green tiles falling at an increasingly fast rate from the top of his screen and loses the game. He then turns off the notifications coming from that chat group, that he mostly uses to transmit messages from Director Wang (who speaks no English whatsoever) down the hierarchical chain: last-minute schedule changes, new rules in place, forms to fill, reports due, infractions to the dress code, students who missed entire weeks of classes to attend intensive TOEFL instruction from award-winning language experts and need remedial classes. He has no time for the pesky foreign cunts complaints, and will avoid interacting with them as much as possible, but as hes reminded often by Director Wang in their tri-weekly all-afternoon-long meetings, its his job to maintain a harmonious relationship with the foreign staff and that there are others who could replace him.
Somehow he doubts it. He was a mediocre physics teacher, for sure, and especially now that he has a lightened schedule due to his assistant principal duties he couldn't give much of a shit about preparing his lessons, but hes a very shrewd salesman. Several of the current students would probably be down the road at Nongzhou Number 4 if it wasnt for him, and even a hands-off (to say the least) leader like Director Wang has to realize that the ship is running smoothly under his guidance. Yet, like a good obedient Confucian boy, he is always averting the directors eye contact and accepting every bit of criticism and veiled threats, an absolute necessity if he wants to cling on to his somewhat prestigious position and plan his next move

First of all sorry if on occasions I make mistakes whether it is spelling or of a grammatical nature but English isnโt my first language. And I even get to have a double excuse considering that Iโm French and we do have quite a reputation regarding our English learning capacity. So please consider that Iโm merely honoring my cultural heritage.
The battle of Talas took place near Taraz on the modern border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in 751 AD. The exact location is yet to be confirmed but the accounts of the events place it on the banks of the Talas River. It took place after a series of smaller engagements between the Umayyad (soon to be Abbassid) empire and the Tang empire, as the two major powers intervened in the local conflicts to gain or maintain control over the Silk Roads. The latest struggle being between the local kings of Tashkent and Ferghana, two local Silk Road towns. The latter won the siege of Tashkent with the support of Gao Xianzhi โ a general of Gogureyo descent (a recently defeated Korean kingdom) serving the Tang dynasty โ and his troops. The Tang general supposedly had the king beheaded for refusing to pay the tribute he owed the Chinese empire, which in turn caused the son of the king to call for the help of the Abbasid. There is another version where an abbasid general named Ziyad ibn Salih who was already present to help the Tashkent king in his war escaped the city when the besieging army broke in and went to Samarkand to gather an army and confront the Tang army. Meanwhile Gao Xianzhi recruited Karluk Turks in Fergana to bolster the ranks of his army.
The sources are fuzzy to say the least and it only gets worse when it comes to the actual battle itself but whichever story we choose to follow we end up with two armies facing each other near the Talas River.
When it comes to the numbers involved you end up with radically different versions ranging from 40 000 Arab soldiers supported by 20 000 Turks and contingents from the allied Tibetan empire according to the Arab records, to 200 000 soldiers in total forming the ranks of the Abbasid army according to some Chinese estimates. As for the Tang army, once again we are faced with wildly diverging numbers from 10 000 Tang soldiers flanked by 20 000 Karluk mercenaries for the Chinese sources, to a 100 000 to 150 000 soldiers strong Tang army according to the Arab sources.
The Chinese records also insists on the fact that the Tang forces marched a long distance to reach Tashke

A play on words.
I've seen some reviews for the men's version of the Discovery Set and thought I'd write a review for the women's version, too (though fragrance itself is really genderless). I also got 3 extra samples of other perfumes not included in the discovery set that I'll also review from the brand. It was shipped promptly when I bought it on the Frederic Malle website and I had no issues with it getting to me. It was also packaged securely with a ridiculous amount of tissue paper. The box of the discovery set itself is just cardboard and nothing fancy, but this was the smaller mL set and the larger discovery set might have nicer packaging. I just didn't want too large of sizes of all of these scents in case I didn't like any as I'm pretty picky lol. I haven't had too much experience reviewing perfumes here so any constructive feedback is appreciated and I tend to make a lot of mental connections when it comes to smells so you'll see a lot of comparisons to other perfumes I've smelled and worn as I try to explain the notes. Here we go!
Carnal Flower - The opening of this reminds me of a Creed perfume from their Royal Exclusives, either Pure White or White Flowers, I can't quite remember which one of them had the green almost grassy opening of Carnal Flower. From reviews, I had prepared myself for a white floral bomb ร la Alien by Mugler and with a name like Carnal Flower I guess I really expected the white florals to be very indolic as well, but this perfume was actually quite tame. Not the strength of it, of course, no the projection of this guy was insane and a drop could probably scent an entire room that's how concentrated it feels! But really the eucalyptus note in this overpowered everything at first and this was a super fresh perfume on me for quite a while before the mid and base notes came out to play. In the end, this ended up being a really creamy and musky white floral and becomes almost coconut lotion-like in smell. A beautiful perfume, but not for me. 7/10
Eau de Magnolia - This was one of the scents recommended by the perfume quiz for me! I already knew those results were a little off for me (I wasn't recommended a single rose perfume and that's my favorite note!), but this one was actually really nice. It's a very fresh perfume that's also very green in its opening. It reminds me of spring although the floral notes in this are faint to me underneath the citrus, I haven't smelled Magnolia so I'm unsure how close this is to the plant itsel
