Dookie gets so much love from older fans. American Idiot brought in a new generation of fans. I'm a fan of all their work but no one ever seems to give Warning the credit it deserves. The album as a whole is completely solid. No particularly "meh" songs. Misery is the unique song on the album but it doesn't feel out of place while listening to the album.
Yeah, it's a little bit slower and lyrically different than their other albums but I think that's what makes it so great. It just feels more mature in a good way.
I don't know. Maybe this isn't even unpopular anymore. I just know the album got a lot of flak at the time for how different it was than all those that came before it. It was one of their worst selling albums. I've read other punk bands from the 90s giving Green Day a hard time for album.
It's the best though.
If you were to create a Green Day fictional album by combining any elements and style from other albums, How would you envision it?
I like the style of the Revolution Radio album, it something that I used to wonder before on what would be the style like if you combined the Epic Punk Rock Opera vibe of American Idiot, the agressiveness of Insomiac, and the folk experimental rock sound of Warning. The band really achieved that style through the RevRad album, at least for me.
Have never done this before, so gonna give it a whirl. No Shenanigans.
For me its
Comment yours! Dont hate any of these albums.
ignoring lyrics, individual tracks, etc.
I just can't make myself like those albums. I do love some songs though (going to pasalacqua, 2000 light years away, one for the razorbacks, one of my lies, when I come around, pulling teeth, sassafras roots, coming clean, basket case)
But I can't listen to any of those albums front to back and thoroughly enjoy it. Especially Insomniac.
Iβd want more experimentation. Something like Misery, or more keyboards, more varieties of effects, less accessible stuff. I really liked what Billie did with Southern Girls off of one of the Longshot eps that he released on Soundcloud, with fuzzy bass and electronic drums. That could be a cool direction for them to go in, maybe without the electronic drums though.

What would you guys say is the most underrated GD album. Me personally, I would say "Warning", but I'm interested to see what you guys think.
1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours & Kerplunk: Raw, lo-fi, less refined but unaltered genuine punk straight outta 924 Gilman Street
Dookie & Insomniac: Bringing punk to mainstream with themes of alienation and boredom and drugs and shit
Nimrod. & Warning: More experimental and relaxed; deviating a bit from punk and showing the band maturing somewhat
American Idiot & 21st Century Breakdown: Hard and epic punk-rock opera and political concept albums critical of US politics and showcasing the generational feeling of alienation
The Trilogy: This one's the outlier considering the fact that the three go together by design. Although you could argue that the garage-rock inspired music in Β‘Dos! links it to Foxboro Hot Tubs. Can't think of much to directly link Β‘Uno! and Β‘TrΓ©! but I still like em both (Β‘Uno! being my favorite of the three)
Revolution Radio & Father Of All Motherfuckers: These two are also a bit more loose in comparison to the others, with my shallow justification being "Newer Green Day trying its thing." Revolution Radio is a bit more political whereas Father Of All Motherfuckers is a bit more garage like Β‘Dos! and Foxboro Hot Tubs.
What do you guys think?
If I'm not mistaken, BJA is a couple years sober now. I for one am excited to hear how that affects the new album!
This album is very special. From thoughtful lyrics to great production. The big range of Billie's voice. The changes in tempos. 21CB is the album that gets to my soul the most and I could say it's even better than American Idiot. It was more ruff and it was the beginning of Green Day's new style. But 21CB was when they finally perfected their style and production skills. Everything in this album is blended perfectly together. It's really saddening to know that Know Your Enemy is the song that most people think of when they think of the album. It's probably one of the weakest on the album, still good though. And of course 21 Guns, which is a really good song but just like the most of the songs on the album.
In my opinion 21CB was the highlight of their discography and they just couldn't continue with this greatness ever after. The Trilogy, Revolution Radio and Father of All Motherfuckers have good songs and aren't bad albums but it really looks like Green Day have lost their spark and their energy.
Anyway, I'm curious what are your thoughts about the album.
