A list of puns related to "Vacuum extraction"
I have LVP floors and was curious on if I would be better off pursuing something like a Bissel crosswave that operates as an extractor or if something like a Bissel Spinwave with the rotating microfiber pads would be better. I personally feel like the spin wave style of machine would be easier and fit my needs but I wasnβt sure if anyone had experience with them and if there were any downsides. I like the simplicity and easy of use with just washing the microfiber pads instead of having to clean out the dirty water tank and occasionally clean out the dirty vacuum head.
We donβt have significant spills to clean up frequently. Itβs mainly just for periodic surface cleaning.
Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks!
Has anyone tried this / have any insight as to whether it would work? I've been looking into the Source Turbo alcohol extractor, which does low temperature alcohol evaporation (it also has a first stage process using the machine's vacuum and a Buchner flask with micron filter paper to create a clean solution).
Would this work to create a high quality extract? I'm suspecting it would because it's just an integrated system for doing low-temp alcohol solution evaporation, but wondering if anyone has any further insight before I drop a wad of cash on this thang?
Also, could an extract made this way be dissolved into water for further processing?
Trying to get to the roots of KPRF, just an idea.
EDIT: KPRF = Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii (red cheeks, not Rosacea though!)
EDIT 2: How many of you were born via c-section?
Trigger warning: brutal birth, because of ve
Hey r/pregnant , now I have my baby girl and wanted to share my experience. Sorry for my non native English π
My story is somehow horrible, but I think the way to cope with it is to think that I'm now prepared for almost anything. It's empowering in a weird way. And my girl was really brave. We were all in this together.
I knew I'm gonna get a big girl. The 36 week ultrasound showed her to be 8 lbs with a head circumference of 14,2 inches. I told every doctor that the father is a giant with a really big head. I'm rather small. In retrospect I should have been adamant about getting induced early, but as a FTM I wanted to have it come naturally. It didn't.
I got induced Wednesday morning with cytotec and had mild cramps the whole day. At night I got almost no sleep, because my room neighbor had really loud contractions. I don't know, why she didn't go to the delivery room earlier. Thursday morning it got really bad pain wise and I called my husband at 15 pm. I then tried a bunch of pain meds before getting an epidural. This was magic. Next time I don't wait so long to get one. I could actually eat dinner while having contractions. The pain came back slowly but was manageable, while they got me on oxytocin.
At the time I was fully dilated the contractions were really strong and there was almost no time between them. The epidural was turned off, because the nurse wanted me to push properly (she said it wouldn't do much for the labour pain anyway) I should start pushing at around 23 pm but they couldn't explain it properly to me (holding my breath to push didn't worked for me). I had to figure it out myself, it was more like getting the muscles to spasm? It felt like puking from the other side π€£
I was really exhausted and at around 01:15 the heart rate of my baby dropped, so they called the doctors for a vacuum extraction. I already felt horrible haemorrhoids and I was fully dilated. She was just too big. The extraction was the worst part. It took only 3 contractions, but it was brutal. There was a doctor with some kind of fabric wrapped around me helping me push on my belly and the vacuum device was moved in circles. It was so painful. My eyes were closed but it felt like they ripped my baby and intestines in two. After the second contraction my husband told me he could see her hair and then she was there.
The medical staff did their best, I wish I could have thanked them all. They looked pretty traumat

Results are disappointing because in the end all I get is a kind of sticky paste. Far away from my expectations to get a dry powder.
Is there someone who already tried this method of extraction who could suggest how to achieve a final result close from dried powder?
I was reminded of this today when a collegaue was complaining about how expensive phase-lock tubes are. So phase-lock tubes are fantastic for doing phenol:chloroform extractions. They basically are just epi tubes with a dollop of silicone-based gel in the bottom that has a density right between the aqueous and organic phases of your extraction mixture. After you spin your extraction with the gel, the gel "locks" between the two phases making it really easy to pipette off all of your aqueous phase without getting any organic phase.
A few years ago when I was just starting with my new adviser, I went to restock the little buggers and discovered how insanely expensive they are. More than a buck a pop for 2mL epis! I googled around a bit and discovered there's a way cheaper alternative. The phase-lock gel sold by 5' through VWR is basically compositionally identical to Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease which you can get for ~$20 per 150g (enough for hundreds if not thousands of extractions, which brings the price per extraction down to pennies).
Basically what I do is fill a couple 5 or 10 mL syringes with the vacuum grease, autoclave them, then shove them in a drawer. Whenever I need to do an extraction, I squirt ~50uL of grease into an epi tube, spin for ~2 min @ 16kg to pellet the grease, then add my extraction to the tube and spin again for 2-3 min @ 16kg. Bam, phase lock! Hope this helps people out!
TLDR; FTM. 28 hours from water breaking to birth. Planned epidural. Unplanned morphine, induction/Pitocin, two second degree tears + episiotomy, three hours of pushing, vacuum extraction birth, horrible doctors but wonderful nurses. Baby in NICU for 36 hours. A traumatizing experience but I've talked it out, moved forward, and put it behind me. Healthy baby and happy parents in the end, the only things that matter now.
FTM, now 14 days postpartum and wanted to share my birth story. I always found these very informative! The only thing about my birth story that was planned was the epidural, everything else we just had to deal with in the moment. This is super long, despite me trying to shorten this!
At 39 weeks on a Friday morning, I went to the doctor and was told I was still only 1cm dilated (had been this dilated since 37 weeks) and that I *would not* be having a baby this weekend. I went home pretty annoyed because I was so uncomfortable at this point and knew that my mom gave birth to my brother and I both 7-10 days before our due dates. The doctor scared me a little talking about planned induction after 39 weeks but said I could try and speed things up with light exercise, etc. So I went home, did a 20 minute prenatal yoga class on Youtube and spent another 20 minutes bouncing on my exercise ball. At 11:30pm that night, my water broke. Who knows if it was the exercise or just meant to happen but yeah... lol. I was reading in bed and felt wetness in my panty liner. I thought maybe my mucus plug magically fell out so I got up to pee. When I looked in my undies, I saw that I had soaked through the liner and when I stood up, I felt fluid slowly dripping out of me. When I went to wipe, I saw pink fluid and it just continued trickling out of me! I yelled for my husband, who decided that evening to have a couple glasses of scotch since we were told no baby would be arriving! Oops.
I called the on-call doctor and they said to head to the hospital. After getting a quick shower and finishing packing up our hospital bag, we headed down to the hospital (husband had made himself coffee while I showered and sobered up lol). Once at the hospital, they confirmed that I was still only 1cm dilated, that my water truly did break, and that we would remain at the hospital overnight. I was so scared that they would send us home! This was my first time in a hospital so after almost two hours of checking in, we finally got into our room. Despite all my trying to calm
... keep reading on reddit β‘Situation: Getting ready to do my first ABV extraction for a tincture. I plan to use 151 Everclear (I can fairly easily get 190 instead - would it be worth it?).
My question: if I perform the extraction in a mason jar, would creating a vacuum in the jar (I have a kit):
a) help the extraction
b) hinder the extraction
c) have no effect?
Imagine if there's a vacuum chamber and some water on the side. If you wanted to see the water boiling in the chamber but also extract that vapor without disturbing the vacuum, how could you do it? Let's say you wanted to extract it to another container. Once the vapor turns to water in the second container, it should have the same exact volume as the original correct (assuming it was distilled). I'm about to start a project and this is more research than anything.
EDIT:
I'm basically just trying to think of various ways I could desalinate water. Whenever I got back to my country in Africa, I wanna find a way to desalinate/disinfect the local water source. I know how difficult it is to do by conventional means so I'm trying to see if there are other unconventional ways to do it.
EDIT 2: I just found something called "vacuum distillation" which I think is pretty similar to what I'm talking about. Is that something that's viable on a medium to large scale?
So I have this disorder called Psuedotumor Cerbri. In short, I have extra spinal fluid that builds up in the head that causes pressure that causes my optic nerves to swell. Not a big deal, i have had this for almost 2 years now, and medication keeps the swelling down. Some of the other symptoms are really annoying. i have been off my medications due to the pregnancy and I just saw the Perintalogist today. The concern is if were to deliver naturally it could put to much pressure in my head. Too much swelling on Optic nerves can cause possible vision loss. So I still have more tests from my other doctors but the perintalogist first said I could do a vaginal delivery but i would have to have an epidural and minimal pushing would be required so we would have to have a vacuum extraction or forceps . Now, this could change if she is too big or my pelvic bones are to small we will have to have a c-section. I would love to hear from you lovely ladies who can tell me if you have had a similar situation the doctor told you and what did you do? Or if you had a vacuum extraction, because honestly just hearing vacuum extraction scares me!!!
I don't have the space for a full on dust collection system and I'm not sure yet if I want to spend the money on a festool dust extractor. Although, I am fairly confident that I am going to buy the festool ts 55 and possibly a festool of 1400 fairly soon. Because the dust extraction is so praised on festool tools, I decided I need to consider something nice to go with these tools.
I saw the Oneida Dust Deputy on The Wood Whisperer but I need a good vacuum to pair it with. Any suggestions? What do you use?
Using a vacuum you can get water to boil at room temperature, does this technically evolve steam that can be used to extract essential oils without elevated temps?
