A list of puns related to "Theory of forms"
Also, of the people who tend to turn to positive anthems in an attempt to buoy themselves in calamitous times - do they do so because theyβre seeking a musical refuge; or, is it a βpartying at the end of the worldβ kind of thing?
Conversely, do the ones that prefer melancholy music or music with heavier lyrics and themes in times of crisis do so because it feels more authentic to listen to gloomy music that echoes present-day anxieties? Or, is it because optimistic and cheery bops simply donβt sound right in an pessimistic and apprehensive age?
Finally, what mood of music do you personally listen to in times of distress, upbeat or downbeat?
Hi all,
This might seem like a weird and vague post but I took a few religion/anthropology classes in college. They were my favorite classes outside of my major. The professor had us read theories about religious sacrifice and anthropology of religion. Basically collections of the most prominent theories from the best (modern) Anthropologists. And the discussions I had in that class were amazing.
The content was very dense and different to digest but the professor was great at breaking it down for us. So I want a book that will discuss these complicated topics in a form that I don't need a PhD to understand. My favorite discussions involved the topics listed above. I loved learning about these theories and being able to really think about their merit.
I believe that the nature of social media as it is now will cause any mass criticism to turn into a mob. Reasons:
Conclusion: Online criticism between a creator and it's audience doesn't work due to the structure of the social media used to deliver it.
Eternatus came from a meteor, no? It also features a red-bluish color scheme and has an unfathomable amount of energy in it. Deoxys tends to have a powered core as well, and also comes from meteors.
With the rivalry of Deoxys and Rayquaza, *** what if the same species tried a new form? A larger beast, a DRAGON, to fight it? ***
Eternatus also seems like it shares the same βbarebonesβ style as Deoxys, which is either extremely thin (attack/speed form) or simply designed (defense and normal).
Just a theory I had, nothing major.
The other day after I rewatched season 8 for about the millionth time,I realized that there was no proof that Hutchins didnβt plant the blast sap under the royal house. This got me thinking; because I donβt think Hutchins planted the blast sap, and obviously the ninja donβt think so either, who did it? Then I realized in season nine Karloff states that Camille is a βbad girlβ now. From there I connected the dots: What if Camille wanted to join the Sons of Garmadon and after she was accepted, she met The Quiet One and then Harumi finds out that Camille is the elemental master of form? From there, Camille helps Harumi in throwing the ninja off her scent by sending Camille as Hutchins and thus allowing her more time for her plan to work.
This may be an obvious theory, but I just thought of it and wanted to share.
By "everything" I mean Creation, The Fall, Humanity, meaning of life, Free Will, Evolution, knowledge from the Serpent contrasted to knowledge from G-d and Creation by G-d, and ideas of humanity either evolving into God itself, or reuniting with G-d, (or both, somehow?), I guess Revelation or Messianism or however you would best term it. The Bible has great stories about these things, but I'm wondering if this sub, with its knowledge of Jung and hopefully some modern science, can come up with a comprehensive outline of how these things function based on logic, the sciences, observances of the natural world then applied to the mystical and theoretical and psychological, etc etc.
Anyone who wants to take a shot at it, remember there are no stupid answers, just stupid topics and stupid posters like me whose topics always end up at "0" points on reddit 90% of the time. But darnit, this is what interests me, so I'm posting it!
In MatPat's most recent video yesterday, he talked about Afton children swapping to larger forms over time:

Here's my own video about the idea from 2017:

Just taking a stab at explaining all this ridiculous nonsense at once. Obviously most (but not all) dates and events are completely arbitrary :D Enjoy!
Timeline of events:
March 3, 1839. The Blackwell Expedition glimpses the ocean from the Overlook. Ezekiel Blackwell declares the expedition concluded and founds a town of Culmination.
April 12, 1839. While exploring the area south of Culmination, Blackwell discovers a picturesque bay and falls in love with its beauty. The town of Arcadia Bay is founded on the new spot.
October 11, 1839. A strong storm hits the fledgling Arcadia Bay. The next morning, a strange ship is found wrecked on the rocks under the nearby cliff. There are neither survivors nor remains. The only thing that washes ashore intact is a totem of an unknown tribe. Blackwell's second-in-command claims the totem for his own. The man's name is Arthur Gordon Prescott.
October 15, 1839. The Raven visits the Salishan chief in a dream for the first time in over a century, instructing him to erect a totem near the Culmination peak.
October 23, 1839. The totem at Culmination is carved and consecrated. The natives begin to withdraw from Arcadia Bay, moving closer to Culmination.
Walpurgisnacht, 1846. At the recently built Black Lodge, Arthur Prescott unlocks the Tobanga Totem with the help of a secret ritual and begins to draw on its power. The Tobanga manifests as an Owl.
May 8, 1846. Another great storm hits the area, but this time it hits Culmination the hardest. Several natives are killed in flash floods. This is a physical manifestation of the first battle between the Raven and the Owl, fought in the spirit realm. A bolt of Lightning slams into the old sacred White Oak, trapping the Raven inside, effectively locked out of both worlds.
May 9, 1846. Arthur Prescott falls ill and dies within a week. His son, Andrew Nathan Prescott, is 8 years old at the time.
February 12, 1875. Andrew's son, Martin Lewis, is the first Prescott born in Arcadia Bay.
July 31, 1903. The Prescotts, led by Martin Lewis, take possession of the Lyndon Farm, forcibly evicting the Lyndons for unpaid debt.
July 10, 1910. Jeremiah Blackwell, grandson of Ezekiel, establishes the Blackwell Academy on Prescott land in Arcadia Bay. The new building is literally on top of the old Black Lodge and within stone's throw of the Tobanga Totem. The site is granted by Martin Lewis Prescott, who has no interest in the esoteric art

In Martin's own words,
>βI donβt try to write anyone whoβs, βOh, Iβm a villain. Let me get up today and just go out and do villainy and pull the world (into) darkness. They all have grievances. They all have wounds, and they have things that drive them to do the things that they do.β
He also says
>βWeβre all these complicated people, who are capable of doing a heroic act on Tuesday and on Wednesday doing something horrible.β
This perfectly describes Daenerys, her progression, and ultimately presenting as the mad villain. It seems to come out of left field, but really, is it? We've seen her crucify hundreds of people, burn hundreds alive, Massacre and execute hundreds at a time, declare war unjustly and for vengeance or ambition, we've seen her coax her husband to murder her own brother, and is perfectly willing to forsake those who love her for those who will benefit her. That's a villain. She's been a mad villain this whole time.
When it comes to the scorching of the city, it shows that the Madness of her father came back full circle. King Aegon Targaryen V was famous for shouting "burn them all," which she did. That Madness to Massacre was inherent in her from the beginning. That urge to burn humans is apparent from the time the dragons are still very small. Her mentality is overcome with bloodlust. It's a Madness she can't control. Moreover she has never been able to control it and she inherited it from her father.
Then why does it seem like such a flip? Why does it seem her character goes from someone we like to someone we fear and despise? Because the whole time we were watching her, it was through the eyes of those who loved her. Winterfell and Sansa did not love her. After Tyrion and Varys find out the truth about Jon Snow, they no longer love her either. When Jon finds out that she loves the throne more than him, he still loves her but that love is Jaded by her ambition. Thus we get to see the real Daenerys Targaryen: the true villain of the story who is just as much a Madman as her father.
In the last episode we get to see that contrast where she speaks in these high and lofty ideals of purging the world of evil and bringing Liberty in her wake, when in truth she is going to bring a holocaust. But those who love her applaud her on, just as they have, and just as we have, since the beginning of the series. But

What if the most advanced form of conquerers haki allows the user to erode or get rid of all haki around them. This includes haki infused objects or haki covered limbs. (I think one exception is weapons that are permanently imbued with haki)
I know that this sounds op, but this could be the final thing luffy learns, The whole conquerers haki stems from exerting your will power over others to knock them out. But what if you could overpower their haki in all forms?
I think that this is the most powerful version of conquerers haki. The ultimate testament to the kings willpower.
When I saw Gaja use magic runes to channel nature's lightning mana, I asked myself: "wait a sec, where have I seen magic runes before in Black Clover?"
Then I realized that it reminded me of the runic circles that appear when people use spells from the demons' world, a.k.a. "forbidden magic".
My theory is that this magic is a form of runemanship that allows people to channel the mana from the demons' world in exchange for a price, such as sacrifices, or a large amount of mana, or both. Just like the Heart Kingdom's runemanship allows its users to channel the mana from the surrounding nature.
Furthermore, Prince Lumiere said that he had read in the books that demons were "evil souls of mana." This makes sense. The demons are made of the mana and souls that are paid when people invoke mana from this world. So when the magic knights of Clover Kingdom made the "contract" and used forbidden magic a long time ago, as Captain Dorothy told Noelle, a bunch of demons appeared in the world of the humans.

The Wikipedia page for Smith Normal Form says there is an SNF for any matrix with entries over a principal ideal domain. The PID page says that any field is a PID. So I guess that there is an SNF for matrices of reals (even though it isn't used as an example in places such as the Wikipedia page for SNF above). Is this right?
I see software that can find the SNF for matrices of integers; is there software which works on reals?
Hello, I am doing some homework and I do not quite understand this part. I was wondering if you guys could help. The question is
How are relationships used to explain 1) essence or soul 2) beauty and love?
The Prof gave us this website to read. It might be helpful: http://philosophicalsociety.com/archives/plato%20and%20the%20theory%20of%20forms.htm#l
The general idea is theres an exponentially large block of random bits, then a slightly more than linearly large block of a specific pattern (such as all 1s), and you should one-box vs two-box depending on the sizes of those, depending on which total sequence would compress smaller with the next bit being 0 vs 1.
My preferred model of computing is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKI_combinator_calculus which can be written as a single function by deriving iota as combos of the s and k lambdas where iota = <cons s k>, and cons = Lx.Ly.Lz.zxy. There are various models of computing which are universal in terms of flexibility but are not universal in terms of compression. I prefer to represent a bitstring as a cons-based linked-list of T vs F where T=K=Lx.Ly.x and F=Lx.Ly.y. It starts to appear arbitrary which model of computing and subtle variation of compression you use.
I've been thinking about this for a while, and re-watching S4E1 reminded me of this initial thought.
Do you think Saul is beginning to develop some form of paranoia/schizophrenia/psychosis? Obviously his behaviour is warranted, given that he was a huge accomplice in both the biggest meth empire and in several murders, making him one of the most wanted criminals in the country.
But I feel that the writers are playing the events of the day he faints/drives in the taxi in a way that allude to him freaking out about getting potentially getting recognized/caught. We've seen them do this before, both in BB and in BCS. More specifically, Chuck imagining the power meter running (heavily hinted at, but not confirmed), playing off of his psychosis (S3E10). Similarily, the entire scene in S5E12 when Jesse went to meet Walt in the public area and thought the dad who was at the park with his daughter was there to kill him.
I initially came up with this theory when I saw him talking to the front-desk employee at the hospital, both in his fear of reading out the numbers, and how dragged out the interaction was (i.e. giving the drivers license, social security number, getting called back to not forget the driver's license.) Then, he just happens to get in a taxi with a driver from Albuquerque all the way in Nebraska, who keeps staring at him through the rear-view mirror. Something about Chuck's inability to recognize what was real towards the end of his demise makes me feel that Jimmy is going through the same thing right now.
I can see the writers giving us our POV of what Jimmy is seeing, when in reality, it might be exaggerated through his paranoia. I think it will lead him to be driven to insanity and face a similar circumstance to how Chuck was feeling towards the end of his days. I also could be entirely wrong, but I just wanted to share my thoughts and see what people thought.
I recently talked to a friend about how a mainstream TV sitcom is, in my opinion, not just harmless fun but contains elements of racism and reproduces stereotypes based on people's sex, social group and looks. His response was that this didn't matter at all, since the show wasn't made to send out a message or be political, but just to entertain. It's "just a TV show" was his opinion.
What authors or major theoretical approaches were there in the social sciences that have worked out how products of popular culture like films, shows, songs or stories are not "just a TV show" but both reproduce and reinforce beliefs and stereotypes which are already ingrown in society that can harm people? Like racism, sexism, classism, lookism or other forms of prejudice. My first thought was that it was elements of second-wave feminism which coined the phrase "The personal is political!" but I feel this is not the best fitting approach. Can you think of others?
