How to water glass eggs using sodium silicate

Using water glass AKA sodium silicate is different than using slaked lime for egg preservation. Here is the method that I use:

  1. Use only perfect eggs free of blemishes or cracks. You cannot use store bought eggs (in America) because they have been washed.
  2. Do not wash the eggs but wipe or scratch off off any dirt.
  3. Lay eggs in any plastic, stone, glass or ceramic container. I use 5 gallon plastic buckets.
  4. The ratio is 1 part of sodium silicate to 7 parts of boiled and cooled water. Mix and pour over the eggs making sure they are submerged. Cover them with a lid.
  5. Store in a cool, dry place and in a place where they won’t be moved around too much.
  6. Eggs stored this way will last 7 months. The older they get, the looser the yolk and whites will be, but they are fine for baking and scrambling even at the end of 7 months.
  7. You can make the solution and put into the bucket and just add eggs daily until the bucket is full. Date the bucket with the first day of the first eggs put into it.

How much Na2O do i add to sodium silicate with a weight ratio of SiO2/Na2O = 2.33 to get the solution to a weight ratio SiO2/Na2O = 1.9?

Can the Na2O be added by dissolving a prepared liquid NaOH solution with 50%wt solids?

Making sodium silicate from Soda Lime Glass

Guys is it possible to make sodium silicate from Soda Lime Glass?

Wikipedia told me soda lime glass is upto 70% silica and rest is lime and soda.

So can we simply crush the glass into powder, and dissolve it in NaOH to make sodium silicate or am I missing anything?

Sodium Silicate: What Solution?

I'm going to be making paper cartridges for my revolvers, and I'd like to use sodium silicate because that's what would have been used historically. Amazon has a 40% solution in a 4oz bottle, which ought to be enough for me to get started with. However I'm not sure whether that's the correct proportion of sodium silicate to water for this application. Is it too diluted? Or would it need to be diluted further?

Sodium silicate sand casting. Is co2 absolutely necessary?

Hello, I am getting into casting and I and going to use sodium silicate and sand to create my molds. My question here is, do I absolutely need to use co2 gas or can I rely on the atmosphere to set the mold. I have a feeling the co2 gas is needed to set the mold in a timely manner but I figured I'd ask. Who here has experience with this method? Have you had good results?
