Why is the RMS Titanic's sinking so talked of, when there are hundreds of maritime disasters in history?
I don't quite understand the obsession with the Titanic when it comes to maritime disasters in history. If you look at the peacetime maritime disasters page on Wikipedia, there are hundreds of them, listed that happened. Some of these have more casualties than the Titanic.
Now, this photo of the sinking dreadnought HMS Audacious does not show an ocean liner but I'd like to share it because the photo was actually taken from the deck of RMS Olympic which came to the aid of Audacious, which had struck a mine and was sinking.
