Iβm writing a book about U-boat attacks off the Jersey Shore in WW2.
Iβm an amateur historian in Philly currently writing my first-ever book, Killing Shore: The True Story of Hitlerβs U-boats Off the New Jersey Coast. I have contract offers from two publishers so far and Iβm hoping to have the full manuscript submitted in a few months. There were hundreds of sinkings off the US coast from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico, but I chose to focus on NJ-area sinkings to give the book a more βlocalβ angle. I am also a scuba diver and have dived several of these wrecks, many of which are regular dive & fishing spots.
The book connects 12 separate ships sunk off NJ during 1942-1944 into a single narrative about how the German U-boat campaign against the East Coast began and how it was eventually defeated. Each sinking gets its own chapter.
Each chapter features multiple perspectives (U-boat captains & crews, merchant mariners, US military personnel, and ordinary New Jersey residents.) Iβve taken no creative license- although presented in a dramatic fashion, itβs 100% factual. The book strongly focuses on the human aspect of the men involved in these events: how did they end up in these circumstances , what did they experience, and what happened to the survivors in the years afterward?
I have an unrelated full time career, so this project has consumed almost all of my free time since I began it in March. Iβm very excited to finally get the finished draft submitted.

Went to my local decimated Wal-Mart. Most of the Lego aisle was empty aside from that aaaaaaaaand Vidyo LOL.
Did notice a huge amount of tags on the shelf not marked clearance but all priced x.00 (tho no stock for any of them). Also, the app was scanning higher than the yellow tag clearance stickers but the register scanned correctly.
Devastation! Devastation everywhere!

U Boat (right term?) In 30 minutes
My managers keep telling me that I have to completely finish stocking the items on each U Boat within 30 minutes or sometimes a little longer depending on the quantity of items. I'm wondering if this is the norm across other stores or if these performance expectations are situational
Funnily, I use to only complete like 3 of them in a day now I'm so bored working at Target that I blitz them for fun and finish 2 in like 40 minutes. Anyone else do this?

Iβm writing a book about German U-boat attacks off the US East Coast during WW2, AMA!
Iβm an amateur historian and wreck diver currently writing my first-ever book, Killing Shore: The True Story of Hitlerβs U-boats Off the New Jersey Coast. I have contract offers from two publishers so far and Iβm hoping to have the full manuscript submitted in a few months. The book connects 12 separate ships sunk off NJ during 1942-1944 into a single narrative about how the German U-boat campaign against the East Coast began and how it was eventually defeated. Each sinking gets its own chapter. I focused on New Jersey-area sinkings in order to give the book a local angle. I live near Philly and everyone here vacations βdown the shoreβ.
Each chapter features multiple perspectives: U-boat captains & crews, merchant mariners, US military personnel, and ordinary New Jersey residents. Iβve also taken no creative liberties- although presented in a dramatic fashion, itβs 100% factual. The book strongly focuses on the human aspect of the men involved in these events: how did they end up in these circumstances , what did they experience, and what happened to them afterward? The last sinking chapter serves as the storyβs climactic final battle (the U-550 and the sinking of the Pan Pennsylvania in 1944.) The final chapters describe how the Allies eventually defeated the U-boats, the many wrecks left behind off the Jersey Shore (many of which are fishing & diving spots today), and the later lives and fates of the individuals involved. The majority of the work involved in writing the book has been research rather than writing.
Few Americans today are aware that U-boats sank hundreds of ships off the U.S. coast (mostly in 1942) from Maine to the Gulf of Mexico. This mostly-forgotten chapter of history has been referred to as the βAtlantic Pearl Harbor,β but it was actually much more destructive than the Pearl Harbor attack. The Americans were powerless to stop the onslaught for several months, leading the Germans to call this period βthe American Shooting Season.β Thousands of lives were lost and much critically needed war materiel was sent to the bottom before the U-boats were finally checked.
I work in management consulting full time so this has been a side project that has consumed my life since Ma

To the TM who wanted to know what happens when if you hit someone with a u-boatβ¦.
Well I fricken did it. It was a total accident and I felt (and still feel) absolutely horrible. She was squatting to get something in our crowded as heck back room and I ran flat into her because I couldnβt see her at all.
She swore she was fine but I felt awful.
Today, HR and AP sit me down to file an incident report and review me on Code Green and protocol for reporting an incident.
To be clear, the lady I hit didnβt report it (HR had to ask me who it was) and neither did I. No clue who did.
HR said now they check with the lady to make sure sheβs okay.
Everyone was super nice to me about it. I still feel really bad.
