A list of puns related to "Sho Kosugi"
After a string of successful martial arts films ('Enter/Revenge of the Ninja' and 'Ninja III') for The Cannon Film Group, Sho Kosugi, the main face of the 80s phenomenon known as the “ninja craze,” hooked up with Crown International Pictures to make the campy cult classic, '9 Deaths of the Ninja'.
What makes '9 Deaths of the Ninja' interesting is that it’s essentially Kosugi being Jackie Chan: he’s playful, he’s humorous, he makes funny faces – and like Kojak – he has a habit of sucking on lollipops, which he keeps tucked into his accessory belt next to his throwing stars. During one particular fight scene, Kosugi barely proves victorious after being held down and punched in the testicles by a gang of midget assassins. And just a heads up for some of you ladies (and maybe even some of you guys): '9 Deaths of the Ninja' is the only chance for you to see Kosugi wearing speedos.
Jackie Chan was huge in Japan during this time. Not a bad decision for Kosugi to emulate him, right? Thoughts?
Like the title says, I had it on VHS when I was a kid. I loved these kind of movies. I can’t remember very much of the plot but I’ll include all the details I can remember:
Movie was set in America in a desert western like town, although the movie isn’t a western. It’s modern to the year when the movie was made.
Main character (the ninja) is an older Asian man. I don’t remember why he is in the American town but I think it’s for revenge.
The police in the town are corrupt and he’s fighting against them
There is a woman in the town named Augie. Not sure if that’s how it’s spelled but that’s how it is said. She’s helping the ninja. She might be in love with him. She’s a white woman with black hair, about the same age as the ninja.
That’s really all I can remember. I think the box for the tape was red but I might be mixing it up with another movie. I’m picturing a sunset behind mountains with the ninja standing on the mountain. I hope this part isn’t confusing because I’m not sure about this.
I have looked through every movie on a Wikipedia page of ninja movies, I have looked up every ninja movie I can think of and looked up the cast of everyone in those movies to see if they might have been in this one. I can’t find it. I’m sure it isn’t a very well known movie and nobody in it is famous. I hope someone who loves obscure action movies sees this and can help me out.
Also I should add, I had the tape in the late 90’s but this is most likely an 80’s movie.
Other details I have remembered since my last post:
The movie is American. It is in English. Not dubbed
The ninja in the movie is Asian. Everyone else is white
The ninja is traveling alone. He doesn’t have any family or students traveling with him
this definitely is not a kids movie. It’s not family friendly. If it has a rating I’m sure it’s R
the whole movie takes place in this small town. There are no big city scenes
The cast is pretty small. There’s the ninja, Augie, some crooked cops, and maybe a few other town people, and that’s it
The main character is the only ninja in the movie. He’s not fighting other ninjas.
Things I’m sure it’s not:
Sho Kosugi is not in it. I’ve checked all his movies
Not any of the American Ninja movies
It’s not a comedy
It’s not any version of Kung Fu with David Carradine
It’s not anything on Godfrey Ho’s IMDb page
It’s not the tv series The Master
It’s not a horror movie. There’s nothing supernatural in the movie

105 minutes. People talk about Harryhausen’s special effects - rightfully so of course - but these movies are also just easy to watch and very entertaining.
This one had a little bit of a darker tone than 7th Voyage, but I think the effects were more seamless and some of the monsters were very creative. Sinbad goes through an adventure story here that begins with him picking up a fallen golden necklace and ends in him looking for life-changing wealth and trying to stop an evil wizard from obtaining it. They go through choppy seas, aggressive ship decals, minotaurs, and a cool statue that looks like General Grievous when he comes alive with six sword-wielding arms.
People will probably call out the Brownface here, and it is awkward and dated, but there is a different cultural phenomenon on display that I thought was kind of cool. This was a financial success, was a wide release in the US and was about an iconic hero. The whole time Sinbad, and his crew, were praising Allah and doing this mission for the glory of Allah. I know it’s historically accurate, I just think it’s kind of cool that audiences were so comfortable with the idea of varied religious practices being represented so matter of factly.
Fun movie all around, great animation design and execution from the master Harryhausen and a side of Director Gordon Hessler I haven’t seen yet after only seeing his movies with Sho Kosugi previously.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I've been watching it and honestly outside of a certain antiseptic feeling you get thanks to audio sources it's not that bad. I liked the Baltan redesign, it's close to the original while doing its own thing. This show was clearly meant for the western audience and honestly from what I've seen it probably would have worked if it been promoted right, it definitely would have benefited from a better soundtrack, and the action, at least in the first episode could use some work, but I could see this working.
So what's the story, do we know why this was never released over here?
Also, Ultraman host is played by the son of Sho fucking Kosugi, so that's a huge plus.
Do your worst!
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies 😂
It really does, I swear!

But that’s comparing apples to oranges
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
