Saipan -- Review and Analysis

Saipan is a tier 7 American premium CV featuring incredibly strong fighters and only torpedo bombers, with small reserves. Saipan is an incredibly strong CV that is particularly catered towards competitive play and div play thanks to being *the* counter for enemy CV. Along with Kaga, Saipan represents everything wrong with the T7 CV meta.

.............................................................................

MY STATS:

Do bear in mind that like all CV, stats are subject to change based on how much the player divs or farms bots. In the case of Saipan, I div maybe 1/5 of the games, and I despise bots so I do not play them where possible. Also note that all the games were done post-return button nerf.

.............................................................................

RECOMMENDED BUILD:

Standard CV build: Fighters first slot, Acceleration (or AA if you play passively) in the second slot, Concealment third slot

Only take extra TB if you are very very confident you will run into extremely heavy AA on the enemy team and won’t face experienced CV opponents; otherwise fighters is just a better option and you rarely run out of TB anyways.

Recurring themes: incredibly strong planes with low reserves and some skill needed

.............................................................................

FIGHTERS:

The star of the show and the reason many people despise Saipan. By far the strongest fighters in the game tier for tier, you can force fighter every other CV and come out on top. While the reserves aren’t the best, they reload very very quickly.

Make Hiryus and Rangers cry when they can’t get more than 5k damage and show them what real sky cancer looks like. Pesky Kaga farming your BBs? Focus all his TB and end the game with 60 plane kills. CV sniper? Not going to happen with these bad boys; those T9 fighters will make sure the enemy realizes how stupid CV sniping is. GZ thinks he has strong fighters? Force fighter his squad twice and laugh as he runs out of fighters 2 minutes in.

(Caveat; these fighters are best when paired; make sure they always are.)

.............................................................................

DIVE BOMBERS:

No
