Neil Gaiman and Rick Riordan are fanfiction writers. In fact, all mythology is fanfiction. Thus, fanfiction shouldn't be looked down upon.

Their fanfiction is about the mythology. Mythology is their fandom. The tales of those "gods" are also fanfiction because it is adapted into different versions to suit time period, religions, and etc. It's a long chain of collaborative fanfiction basically.

People seem upset or shocked whenever I say this. I'm hoping you guys understand where I'm coming from.

[EU] In Rick Riordan's world, where different mythologies from different cultures all exist and hapless teens fight the gods' battles for them, you are told that you, too, are the child of a god. This would be a normal occurrence until it turns out this god is Yahweh, the Abrahamic God.

I love Rick Riordan, but I don't remember anything

As the title said. I love Rick Riordan's works. Some of them more than others. I mostly stick to the Greek and Roman series. But I have a problem.

I picked up The tower of Nero at my local library for the holidays, and as much as I'm enjoying the book I keep realizing that I hardly remember ANYTHING from the previous ToA books, much less the HoO series. I remember more from the PJ books, but I think that's because I've reread them two and a half times.

This isn't the first time I'm making this observation. With almost every book I've read by Rick Riordan, especially with the two later series, my brain is working overtime to try and recall the references they make to previous events. And I have no idea what they're talking about. Or there's a very vague bell ringing somewhere but I don't recall any context.

It might be because I read the the books as they were being released. After all, it's almost a ten years of picking off books, but the thing is: I usually remember the plot of books pretty well. But these books? Son of Neptune: New camp. Percy had amnesia. House of Hades? Maybe Percy got submerged in mud(?) They went to Europe(??) The burning Maze? Eeeh Apollo met his demigod son who was a doctor. I think. I remember quite a lot about the Waystation in The dark oracle. I could list more but that's about it. Just snippets.

And I know there's a lot happening in these books but nothing sticks. Or it bleeds together.

Am I making any sense? Can anyone relate or am I just going insane?

Edit: I wasn't the only one! (Yay I'm not going insane :) )

Is it just me, or does House of Hades read like it is written by a different author trying very hard to sound like Rick Riordan? [HOO]

I am reading the series for the first time since amnesia, so essentially for the first time, and I'm surprised how much House of Hades's writing style just does not fit in with all the other books I've read so far.

It goes a whole lot into flashback and things that have happened in previous books, as though it is educating someone who has never read any of those books before. That is a helpful tactic in writing, but the other books didn't do that nearly as much.

The sentence structure is also a little jumpier and a little bit less fluid to me, but that just may be my read on it. Ironically, it does a really good job going back and forth between the people who are above ground on the Argo II and Percy and Annabeth's journey in Tartarus.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Crossover EliversusMonsterCity and Heroes of Olympus. All rights to characters go to Rick Riordan and u/gonavy27

So, this is a crossover between Percy Jackson Heroes of Olympus and the story this sub is intended for. If this is against server rules, please tell me. Any rights to characters go to u/gonavy27 and Rick Riordan. I've made one change, like Percy is 16, not 18. The rest of the ages are the same. It's useful to the story if Percy is a minor.

Percy just wanted a normal day. Especially after what happened. Why couldn't he ever get a break? A peaceful day with Annabeth, wandering around camp, picnic on the beach...But that wasn't possible anymore. At least his mom and Paul were safe, and Estelle. After the... incident, Percy had convinced them that they should spend some time in New Rome, at least until he found the monsters that had nearly killed all he held dear. They had broken his heart, but not his will. They were a kind unknown to him and his friends, with stretched skin, long legs and arms, and no eyes, just black holes. If he had been in the mood for jokes, he'd have said that he wondered when they would meet Miss Peregrine.

Jason and Piper, Hazel and Frank, Leo and Calypso, Connor and Travis, Katie, Nico, Reyna, Thalia, even the over-protective doctor Will, all of them had tried to cheer him up. At last, weeks later, they had given up on forcing him to eat and sleep, rather they had made a silent agreement to help him, or, as Will put it, stop him from killing himself. He thought it was totally unnecessary, but it was either that or be locked up in his cabin and under constant surveillance by Nico and Thalia. And, believe me, they were scary when angry. And otherwise too. I mean, who would want a tiny emo kid and a badass hunter stalking them 24/7? Not me, I'm not crazy.

Percy, Nico, Jason and Will were on a kind of scouting mission when it happened. One moment they were looking for tracks, the next they heard inhuman screeching. But not the Greek monster type screech, this was unfamiliar. As one, their hands went to their respective weapons. Percy had already uncapped Riptide, Nico was clenching his sword, Jason had risen into the air, and Will had readied his medical supplies, knowing full well he'd need them soon. Jason was rising higher and higher, but was suddenly pushed to the ground by a milky-white dome, one that was settling onto the ground as far as the eye could see.

Truth be told, they were scared. They were scared as the screeching filled the streets, as the screams of innocent people came echoing from their homes. But demigods had

Spoiler: Daughter of the Deep. A new book by Rick Riordan .

Spoiler: I am reading the new book my Rick Riordan. This is the man who wrote the Percy Jackson series.

The main character is a 14 year old girl. She is the defacto leader of the team and Captain of the ship.

And she has her period.

She has her box of maxi pads and bottle of Middle and a heating pad for her cramps.

There are no jokes. There are no boys saying, Maybe you're too hormonal to lead. Maybe a man should step up and take charge.

She is allowed to be a leader and a woman.

I have read romance novels written by women that complete glossed over that fact of life.

This is just one of the reasons why I think Rick Riordan is one of the greatest writers I have ever read.

Not only does he include LGBTQIA+ people in his works, he even goes so far as to make the main character of the Magnus Chase series, Magnus Chase, fall in love with an amab gender fluid shape shifter. Like, how much more inclusive could he get with it? Even in his Trials of Apollo series, he states that the gods themselves have no gender, and Apollo is revealed to have even fallen in love multiple times with both men and women.

How did you discover the Rick Riordan books?[all]

For me, I first heard of Percy Jackson from one of my classmates in the eighth grade who was apparently a fangirl of Percy and from what I heard, I knew there was a guy named Percy (obviously), a guy named Grover and a place called Camp Half Blood. I didn't really care much about it back then. Then in the ninth grade, I moved schools and during my library period I was looking for something to read and found the Kane Chronicles. It said that it was from the creator of Percy Jackson and I thought: hey, isn't that the series my old classmate used to be crazy about? So I read it and thought it was pretty good and wanted to move on to the Throne of Fire but couldn't find it in the library so I started Percy Jackson instead. I went on to finish both PJO and Kane Chronicles by borrowing the books from the library and got really into it. I started Heroes of Olympus with the first book but couldn't read the second book because it had a torn page and temporarily I stopped reading the books. Later when this pandemic started I continued reading the books in the form of ebooks and finished the entire franchise. Now I am a huge Rick Riordan fan and love his books.

[all] Rick Riordan loves wrecking vehicles.

It happened in The Lightning Thief with the bus. It happened out of nowhere in The Titan's Curse with Frederick's car. Then it happened out of nowhere again in The Last Olympian with Paul's Prius.

Are we going to count seacraft? The CSS Birmingham and Queen Anne's Revenge were beautiful ships that sadly had their fates sealed because they had to serve as transport to our heroes. Even the boat Percy borrowed from Camp Jupiter met a similar fate.

Even the magicians were not safe! Many cars got flattened on the chase to Manhattan in The Red Pyramid, but at least the car they were driving was safe. Bes' limousine ended up in the Mediterranean. His second limousine also had to be abandoned, oof.

With all that, let's just say that while I was reading The Trials of Apollo, I've become wary of peaceful scenes in vehicles. I knew that trouble would soon follow, likely ending in the vehicle being totaled.

Annabeth Chase(Rick Riordan) vs Peter Quill(MCU)

Two fighter that rely on their wits, skill, and some items to fight. Who comes out on top?

Annabeth Chase is her post Heroes of Olympus version with her Drakon Bone Sword, Invisibility Cap, and Video Shield(From Last Olympian)

Peter Quill is his Post GotG2 version, with his guns, what I assume are powerful electro-magnets, sticky bombs, and jetpack.

Fight takes place in the middle of New York City. Combatants start a mile apart, unable to see each other. They are both bloodlusted. Annabeth is limited to activating a single Daedalus Automaton.

Fight to the death

Edit:

R1: They don't have any information on eachother

R2: They have watched/read the other's respective media.

I think that the fight scene in Blood of Olympus was not enough. It barely lasted a couple of pages and was a letdown after the huge buildup.

I feel like the rest of the 7 should have had a bigger role in the fight, but I did like the idea of the Lost Hero Trio defeating Gaea. However, for as powerful as Gaea is portrayed, the final battle was disappointing.
