A list of puns related to "Remembrance poppy"
Title says it all. Is it ok for me as foreigner wear a poppy? TIA
Given it's now passed I thought I'd vent my steam. In recent years Remembrance Sunday has become Poppy Day. It robs the day of its purpose, which is a specific, sombre contemplation of the dead lost to war. Now it's about visibly displaying the poppy, have you got one, is it big enough, here's my tattoo of a poppy, here's the Somme in my front garden, here is [brand] cashing in with cheap tat and platitudes please buy it, and visible displays of poppy worship stenciled on any flat surface you can attack. It isn't 'we won the war fuck everyone else' , it's about the generations of soldiers and civilians who have been chewed up and obliterated by war. Edit - typos.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
I haven't seen them for sale anywhere this year and I've been keeping inside as much as possible, well you know, because of the pandemic. I didn't realize remembrance day was happening until late today. If I go out somewhere tomorrow are people going to give me dirty looks if I'm not wearing a poppy? I would go out and buy one tomorrow but I'm scared people will judge me for not wearing one on the way to buy one.
The Red Poppy is a big tradition in Canada on Remembrance day. Lately, it has become a more polarizing topic especially among Non-White Canadians who don't wear it as much or don't seem to take any interest in it. Since there are a lot of Desis in Canada, Do you wear the Red poppy?
Not a single shop where I live or even a Veteran in the street with them.
Edit: A lot of good points. Iβll try Smiths. Thank you.
Ive started seeing some people wearing some and was wondering if there was anywhere on campus that has them? TIA
Is there any copyright or trademark on the poppies?
Good Morning everyone, i've just finished the first dog walk of the day (lovely clear sky, like you could just touch the moon, a bit wimdy though) and someones placed large plastic poppies on every second lamp post.
Am I missing something? or do you think someone has just decided to commemorate early? I've lived here for quite a few years and never seen them up before, especially in October.
I'm fairly new to Ballarat. Is anyone selling poppies this year?
Haven't seen them in years, or can't remember if I have.
Does anyone know of any that will be available for purchase close to/on the 11th?
