A list of puns related to "Quadraphonic sound"
Title
I have a Pioneer QX-747. I love the looks of it and my novice ears thinks it sounds good despite it needing a bit of work / service. I currently don't have any interest in using it in 4-channel mode. I am on the fence about paying to restore it versus putting my money towards a vintage 2-channel receiver of similar value that does not need to be restored.
One positive about using a quadraphonic in 2-channel mode is the power, which goes from 20 watts per channel in 4-channel mode, to 65 watts in 2-channel. However, given that the receiver was built around playing quadraphonic, I'm wondering if there's any sort of compromise when using it in 2-channel mode?
My guess is that the sound quality depends on the quality of the receiver, not whether it's quad or stereo, but I thought I'd ask.
Tell me folks
Iβm getting my first audio set up
Do I need to invest in quad versions of Zappa vinyl in your opinion, and does that sound good with a nice set of 2 channel speakers and standard rear speakers for Dolby surround? Advice much appreciated, my FZ vinyl collection is about to grow immensely but after learning about quadraphonic recording Iβm very intrigued.
Edit: after I posted this I did learn about this company-http://involveaudio.com/product/surround-master-v2/
They make a digital decoder that one can hook a conventional stereo turntable to, and have a SQ Quad vinyl record decoded into a 5.1 home theatre system.
Therefore Iβm guessing itβs not feasible to just have Quad vinyls playable on a standard turntable much less sound right. I still think this could be an interesting discussion. I was originally looking at buying Apostrophe on Quad
Did anyone else notice the amount of extra rigs in the rafters? And during CCT the quad panning of the audio? This is new right? I might be wrong with the terms, any help understanding this would be appreciated.
I am exploring multichannel capabilities of SC.
May I know what types of file formats Quadraphonic sounds can be exported to?
Can SC export multichannel formats?
Also what DAWs can you export quadraphonic files?
Thank you very much~
They're really the best for listening to jazzzzzz.
Just finished this track. I'm obsessing over valhalla shimmer again...
As I finally ordered my remaining three monitors for my 5.1, and with the inclusion of a digital surround processor, I'm wondering if I can utilize this setup to play quadraphonic vinyl, 8-track or open reel.
Do you need a special turntable or reel to reel to playback quadraphonic media or is it some witchcraft using a specific preamp? The digital processor I have has coaxial, optical and line in with line out R/L/C/SR/SL/LFE. My thought is if there is a special quadraphonic preamp/amp/receiver that I have to use that has 4 line outputs, I could simply use the line input on my processor to route it to the appropriate speakers.
Here's the current equipment situation:
But I don't know where to begin finding quadraphonic equipment, media, or if it's even worth it. What do y'all think? Is this plausible? Is quadraphonic stuff so esoteric or prohibitively expensive it's not worth it?
Hello fellow audio engineers/enthusiastics,
I've had this thought for a while and I've been pondering how to achieve this kind of acoustic effect. Is it possible using binaural/stereo recordings (using the same signal for the rear speakers) and how is the technical side of things; ie. is it possible only by using an SACD.
I've noticed it is possible using headphones but it doesn't leave the mix mono/stereo compatible. M/S EQing is something I experimented with, as well as analyzing the tracks with Cubase Multiscope. The 6to2 plugin has some nice features to it yet I lack the proper sound system and motivation to test the recordings live.
I tried making an X/Y controlled Instrument Rack in Ableton Live using M/S, delay and reverb, but I ran into phase correlation issues. Utility-plugin and run everything into a single mono send channel maybe and add that to the stereo signal?
I have two sets of speakers, I have one set up through the rear output that seems to work fine but I can't get the front sound to come out of the front two speakers correctly. I have tried jacking in to both center as well as side outputs with no luck. Tried a few different configurations in the settings and I just can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!
Edit: Got it. With the suggestion from /u/Sohonny I jacked the "Front" trs into the L-out of the port and the fronts started working. Thanks for looking.
I understand how the needle reads the bumps and grooves and how they are amplified through a stereo system. I do not understand how that needle can produce anything other than a mono sound. How do they play the multiple tracks and separate them with only one input?
Do you have two unused monitors and an audio interface with two unused outs? Do you want to play around with quadraphonic sound, but mix in stereo? Here's how to do it.
In this setup, I have Outs 1 & 2 as the main L and R outs and 3 & 4 as the rear L and R outs. I've put a dummy stereo instrument in the arrange area, EFM1, just for illustration.
I think I've covered everything here. If you have done it right, then sending an equally-L-R signal through the instrument will produce 4 equal bars in "Quad Out" (I've renamed the master this) and two equal bars in "Stereo Out". You can mute "Stereo Out" without affecting anything else, but muting the master naturally mutes everything.
These details are for Logic 9, but I don't see why they wouldn't still work on Logic X.
Let me pile on some disclaimers here: If you are mixing a set piece for
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hallo, I have a uni project wherein my plan is to create an immersive pod/room surrounded by blackout curtains and with quadraphonic surround sound, and a slow moving liquidy projection. I am looking for alternative ways to utilise a projector to bring more dimension to the installation, rather than just having the video playing on a large wall or screen.
Does anybody have any experience, or ideas, for how I could go about this? I have been looking into using fog screens that can be walked through and touched, disrupting the patterns in the image with the swirling fog, but think it might be too expensive or complex.
I was also thinking that maybe some kind of near-transparent fabric could be used, possibly cut into hundreds of thin strips and hanging vertically, which might make it appear three dimensional while still being able to be walked through, but I have never experimented with a projector like this and am unsure if it would work.
Any thoughts? Throw anything at me! I am essentially trying to make a bootleg hologram here, which unfortunately mostly exists in sci-fi.
Much love xoxo
Do your worst!
Building home studio. Is it better to have stereo or a quadraphonic sound system for mixing and listening.
