Hello r/partyparrot, I would like you to meet hooper, a 21 year old eclectus parrot and from the research Iβve done, might be the oldest parrot alive who suffers from psittacine beak and feather disease. He currently lives a life of luxury in Swansea, South Wales

PBFD: Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease
Took Andri for his first check up today. He was a plucker when I got him and nearly bald; now some of his feathers are growing back but I was concerned that not all of them were. The vet told me it looks like he has PBFD.
I won't get the results back until next week. It's either fatal or the bird's immune system manages to overcome it, however their feathers will never grow back normally. I feel sick inside. I had a feeling something was wrong, and I ignored it because I thought I was paranoid. He's so happy and otherwise healthy, you'd never think there was something wrong with him except by looking at his feathers. I'm praying that if he does have it, he's already overcome it and will just look a little strange. Any words of wisdom? Because I'm at a loss.

How long does beak and feather disease virus survive
I tested my bird for it, and I still don't know, but let's say it's positive: the bird and the others with it should he euthanized, but how long would the virus survive in a room with no birds?

Beak and feather disease and other animals
Hello, my birds got bfd and I put them to sleep because it was painful to just look at the state they were in, but now I want to know if non-bird pets can get sick too. I know this virus causes disease in pigs and dogs too, and as there was a dog in contact with them I'm worried if the bird circovirus is different or will it also hurt my grandma's dog and my degus, does anyone know?

How common is the beak and feather disease?
I have a cockatiel with symptoms of it, he's young and he lost his flight feathers and now can't even fly. I have a vet appointment, don't worry...but how common is beak and feather disease which is the worst that can happen I think. And I have 8 other birds that live with this cockatiel, but they have no symptoms yet. I'll know soon for sure, but I just wanna know if there's a huge chance I'll have 9 flightless birds soon, which kills me inside just to think about.

How long does beak and feather disease last around a house once the bird has passed
My old lovebird had beak and feather disease, but I was told by the exotic bird hospital that if I get a new bird, it could potentially still get the disease.

It has been exactly one year since we lost Petie to beak and feather disease, and I feel I have gone without a lovebird long enough. On Friday, we pick up this lovely little lady, who we have tentatively named Iris.

Charles Sturt University has developed a vaccine and they think it may be a cure for Beak and Feather disease! They need to raise 30,000AUD to employ people to help vaccinate the birds! Please help donate!
We all know how horrible B&FD is so I want to try and do everything I can so our wild feathered friends don't have to suffer. If you can help, please do. :) Thank you!

Beak and feather disease and resuing materials?
Hi there guys. Im wondering if someone could please shed some light on weater or not you can reuse a cages and eqipment that had a bird contained beak and feather diease?
Some back ground.
couplde weeks ago picked up a runner rainbow lorikeet we cared for it for 4 days and unfortunately died... we were dedicated to keeping the guy and give him a happy home. we did a lot of research went out and bought a large cage. got some nice sticks from the park and made a lovely home for him where he seemed rather content up until his sad death.
my partner and i have decided to get another lorikeet but one from a breeder that shouldn't have beak and feather disease and should be in good nick.
we have waiting for a few weeks now and now are able to pick up a 3 month of rainbow lorikeet. While i have cleaned the cage ,toys, bowls thoroughly with alochol based wipes i am ubnsure if the diease/virus of beak and feather remain? I am afraid of infecting my new health bird?
can i reuse these items?
shoudl i throw away the strick and small logs i found and find new ones?
anyway. thanks. and hope someone can help us out.
we're dedicated to making this new bird the happiest and healthiest it can be!
so exicted!!!

We've never had chickens before and this one has a severely crossed beak. She's all feathers, very weak, and we're having a hard time feeding her and don't have time to hand-feed her long-term. Any tips? Does anyone within a few hours of Charlotte, NC want a high maintenance chicken?

TIL that over 200 bird species including the Northern Cardinals, wild turkeys and Baltimore Orioles use a method of pest control called "anting." They take an ant in their beak and wipe their tail feathers in order to deter lice. The ants release formic acid that the birds utilize routinely.

[Help] Can anything be done about beak & feather disease in wild bird flocks? I just saw 3 cockatoos with bad symptoms in a small flock around my house.
I just noticed that at least 3 of the cockatoos in a a small flock of 12 to 16 that hang around in the trees near me (Vic., SE Gippsland area) have what I assume is beak and feather disease with very obvious symptoms. One was really bad. One of the galahs may have it too (not sure). Is there anything that can be done? Is this any agency that tracks this?

White Atlantic puffins are very rare. A genetic condition called leucism causes them to have only a few dark feathers and a largely orange beak. Such cases are rarely sighted partially because puffins spend most of the year at sea (flying up to 55 mph), coming ashore in spring to breed.

Callahan doesn't like to take baths or showers often so I've started to bring him into the shower with me so that he can rest in the steam and slight splash back from the stream. He absolutely loves it and it gets his feathers straightened out!!! Lots of beak grinding, too!π₯°

How would Jerry describe: a chicken with green feathers, and a black beak
I recently did my version of Jerry saying "I didn't mean to yuck the yum" in a thread. I thought it might be kind of fun to see the community break out their most baroque, ornamental, Jerry-style language. so let's hear your take on Tycho: a chicken with green feathers, and a black beak.
Please feel free make the chicken as evil or benign as you like.
edit: just to be clear we all love Jerry's unique, signature descriptive style as our DM daddy. This is meant as a fun homage. On the off chance Jerry reads this, we love what you do man. Keep making a great game, and we'll keep watching.

The Ayam Cemani is an uncommon breed of chicken from Indonesia. A dominant gene of hyperpigmentation is responsible for their entirely black appearance, including feathers, beaks, and internal organs.
