A list of puns related to "Prior appropriation water rights"
Those of you out west, especially in California, are probably familiar with how water rights are allocated. In the arid western states, the first person to use a quantity of water from a water source for a beneficial use has the right to continue to use that quantity of water for that purpose. Subsequent users can use the remaining water for their own beneficial purposes provided that they do not impinge on the rights of previous users.
These water rights can be sold with the priority unchanged; therefore, water rights are property rights. Things can get pretty iffy when rights are in dispute. βWhiskeyβs for drinking; waterβs for fighting.β
In times of drought, users with junior appropriation dates might not receive their full allocation or even any water at all. This is why you see almond farmers and ranchers using the same amount of water during droughts while cities impose cutbacks - the agricultural users are usually the more senior rightsholders.
Do you think this priority-based system is appropriate for modern life? If not, what do you think would be a suitable replacement?

This bill was referred to the House Committee on Appropriations, House Committee on House Administration, and 3 other committees which will consider it before sending it to the House floor for consideration.
Welcome girlbosses, sigma males, and non-binary hustlers. This post is split into three sections, and elaborates on the co-opting of certain leftist terms and ideologies (specifically those used by feminists, queer activists, and indigenous and anti-racist activists) by the right wing in order to seem progressive and delude uninformed western leftists and liberals (especially NRIs) into supporting them.
1. Feminism
There are, of course, many different ideologies under the umbrella of feminism. Firstly, liberal or choice feminism. In my opinion, this branch of feminism is shallow and doesnβt take into account many of the intersections of oppressions that women face, and often reduces womenβs rights to simply a crusade to have more female corporate exploiters. This can be seen in shallow feminist messaging employed by the BJP and their female MLAs.
Secondly, radical feminism. Itβs necessary to emphasise that despite its name and the few good ideas they (claim to) have come up with, radical feminists tend to be quite regressive in their views about gender, sex, and their intersections with other marginalised identities. The core tenet of βradicalβ feminism is that society is fundamentally a patriarchy that dominates and oppresses women. This core philosophy is reductive considering there are other axes of oppression that are also crucial in determining the true power a person can hold. For example, there has been a spate of retellings of Indian myths like the Mahabharat by rich savarna feminists, that depict its leading women as victims of horrible misogyny, while ignoring that they are upper caste monarchs who largely only interact with other upper caste monarchs.
There is also intersectional feminism, which in opposition to rad feminism, does take intersections of marginalised identities like race, class, and queerness into account. However, due to the majority of focus going to Western intersectional feminism, centrist and right-wing (and some left-wing too, letβs be honest) savarna Indian feminists often forget, intentionally or not, to factor in India-specific identities like caste. This leads them to identify themselves as being oppressed in the global order, despite the fact that they are the most privileged in their own country. This is further discussed in the next section.
2. Indigenous and anti-racist activism
Decoloniality is a school of thought used primarily by Western indigenous activists and activists of colour that critique

Overlanding: βSelf-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, it is accomplished with mechanized off-road capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is campingβ

Wikipedia also says it often lasts for years but thatβs kind of silly because lots of people overland for just a week just the same as regular folks like me rent a campsite for a week.
Justice Ginsberg found herself in the minority in the voting rights case, Shelby County v. Holder, joined by Justices Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan. Ginsberg asserted in her dissent: The majority opinion rolled back the 1965 Voting Rights Actβs protections and permitted states, including those with histories of racially motivated voter suppression, to change their voting procedures without any outside oversight. Justice Ginsburg knew what that meant and refused to pretend it wouldnβt erode the advances made under the act.
... βThrowing out preclearance when it has worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.β
Ginsberg Dissent covers the last 37 pages of Shelby.
Democrats claim various states [including the original who required preclearance] have since implemented restrictive measures that make it difficult for certain groups of people to cast ballots.
The legislative action taken by the Democrats have failed multiple times; unable to overcome the filibuster. Do the Democrats have a better chance at accomplishing a voting right legislation this time around? How would that be possible?

I've been dealing with some cloudy water for a while, in an established tank (almost a year) with good water specs; everything's testing good. Well-rinsed substrate. 55g tank: Heavily planted, under stocked, plenty of filtration. Lights on 8 hours or less daily. Water clears nicely when I do water changes, but within a day or two it's cloudy again.
I'm accepting it's probably bacterial bloom/algae,but how do I correct it? A UV thingy, or an algae remover or both or....?
I've tried pretty much everything BUT those at this juncture. Kinda at my wit's end.
Ezra made his early debut last week! After a mmc last December, I have a healthy (albeit small) adorable baby less than a year later. We are snuggling in the NICU for now, but heβs doing so well!
Whew this was a doozy birth story!
FRIDAY:
I had the smallest bit of bright red spotting. I immediately freaked out and called my husband and said I need to get it checked out. I went to my womenβs hospital where they gave me a vaginal ultrasound and sent me on my way. They sort of dismissed me and said I had a cervical polyp that might have caused the irritation. I had a bit more spotting come out but at that point it was just a brown color.
My husband and I went and got some chick-fil-a soup and went home. I just wanted to take it easy for the evening and thought that was that.
I was in bed relaxing and I felt something βcome outβ. My first thought was the lube they used on the vaginal ultrasound probe. I went to the bathroom and SO MUCH WATER CAME OUT. It kept coming, and coming, and coming. I told my husband water came out and he had no idea what we should do. I called my mom and she told him βHer water broke and you need to go right now.β At that point, Iβm on the dining room floor holding a towel between my legs trying to figure out how to call the hospital. I finally got a hold of them and they told me to empty my bladder and a pad on (LOL NO We are way past that point) and when they finally realized it was really my water and that I was just under 30 weeks along, they told me to go to another hospital in my city because they have a better nicu.
My husband drove me to the hospital like a mad man while I got water on the seat of the car - trying not to hyperventilate. I went into the ER and they took me to the L&D floor. My mom immediately drove up from two hours away to be with me as well. The doc told me that because my water broke, Iβd be admitted until he was born. He was also still breech so that meant likely a c-section.
They put me on magnesium sulfate and gave me two steroid shots. The goal was to keep him in until 34 weeks, but they didnβt know how long it would be before I had him as it could be days or weeks. I was preparing to be in the hospital long-term.
They had already probed almost every hole in my body within two hours of arriving. Covid test, group b swab in my butt and vagina, two ivβs (blew the first one), and THREE catheters as the first went in my vagina on accident, I pulled the second one back out because it hurt so b
