Can and should I solarize my grass over the winter months so it's ready to lay soil/mulch/plant in the spring or should I wait until next summer? Black or clear plastic? I live in Denver Metro, CO.
MOSS!! DAE have experience with cultivating wild moss at home? I tried sealed terrariums but the moss always molded, so now I have new moss in a plastic cup with a lid that has a hole in the top. I've placed it on damp (not soaking) wood mulch because that's what it was growing on before. Thanks!

Sheet Mulch or Black Plastic?
Greetings! My wife and I are fed up with weekly mowing. 4 hours out of our weekly schedule! We are considering transforming 0.48 acres into a wildflower meadow.
I've read both options to kill the grass and weeds - Sheet Mulching and Black Plastic. We've used sheet mulching in our garden but lying down enough cardboard for 0.48 acres seems like way too much. Rolling down plastic and staking it seems more manageable.
Thoughts?
More help with sad crepe myrtle. Should i remove this lower layer of dirt and roots to get to that plastic or just lay som me mulch on top of this?

Home Depot has light plastic tarps for lining your vehicle when you buy bag mulch. It is free and will make a perfect liner for something else.
New to gardening, my house that I just moved into has this cute garden bed, looking under the mulch, I found this plastic lining the entire bed. How do I actually plant something here, should I remove it or cut into it and plant something under it? Im so sorry if it's a dumb question to ask.

Shredded plastic mulch film everywhere in garden. What should I do??
My roommate and I have lived in this house for years and I’ve finally decided to amend the severely neglected garden in our backyard (the previous owner had a garden, but we never tried to upkeep it). When I started pulling out weeds I noticed tiny bits of plastic mulch/ sheet covering everywhere.
I’ve never gardened before and I’m not sure if this is something I should be worried about. Will this affect the soil? If so, how can I get it out?? I’m not sure if it biodegradable or not.
Alternative to plastic mulch to control weed?
I was looking into it and thought that Jute mulch was an interesting idea. Does anyone know any place where they sell jute mulches? If they ship globally then it would be great.
Also do you guys have any other suggestions for mulch? We have tried putting thick layer of compost but it did not work.

Pieces of pretty firm, compressed plastic mesh, that we found with gardening supplies. I don't know if it's the intended purpose, but we use them as reusable "mulch" to protect our potted plants.
Do you loop around black plastic edging for mulch or rock, or only apply to the most outer edge? (Landscaping)
I was under the impression I would only apply it to the outer edge. For example, if I wanted to have a mulch flower bed extending from my porch, I would only apply the garden edging from the start and edge of the porch, not the entire perimeter of the mulch bed. I found out that what the city collect for yard waste gets shredded and composted at the city landfill. All the trash bags full of leaves get shredded and included in the compost.

I live in N. Cal. and have put down sheet mulch over blackberries. (Don't worry, there's plenty more : )_ We still have a few months of warm, dry weather before rain becomes possible. This is my first try at sheet mulching, and I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the hay drying out? Do I need to water, and/or, should I stake down some type of plastic sheet over the top? Found these underneath the plastic I put down for a barrier in my mulch garden. I believe they are growing directly beside the rotting Hosta leaves that were left behind when I cut them down if that info helps at all for the ID!!

Did you know that the city resales yard waste at its composting facility at the Landfill on Ironton Cutoff Road?
They take the yard waste that is picked up weekly and run it through a shredder, plastic bags and all. This is either turned in to compost or mulch. Both are sold at $25/ton and can be picked up at the city landfill.
Two Rivers Park recieves mulch that can be used by residents of pulaski county for free. The sign here reads that this mulch is provided by the judges of Pulaski County.

Finally replaced the mulch and crappy black plastic edging around the house! Went with missouri/iowa decorative rock and oak colored step-up edgers. Going to place a bunch of large boulders (not pictured) next. Now I just need my lawn to recover from all the traffic.

Opinions needed on how to proceed. There was mulch, then crushed brick?, then plastic. It’s all so compacted, I can hardly get the crushed rock up to get to the plastic. I just want to plant bulbs! I can’t lift the closest yard waste bag. So much rock! Any suggestions? What do I do with it all?
Advice on laying down black plastic mulch
We just layer down our plastic mulch and it’s not staying down very well. My guess is that the ground is way too dry. It hasn’t rained in over a week and the first couple inches of soil is very sand/rock like. Would moistening the soil help the initial laying of it?

Our farm is considering plastic mulch for next season's grow. We are in an area where we reach a sustained temperature in the 90s for roughly 30 days and are concerned black plastic mulch may damage the roots. Anyone have any insight/experience using different colors?

I am going to replace a section of grass with mulch. I hear it's a good idea to place a layer of plastic on the ground before the mulch to prevent weeds, etc from growing and that plastic works better than fabric. I am wondering how rain water will drain in this case? This particular area isn't sloped. So will I need to dig some form of drainage trench? Can I simply cut some slits in the plastic for drainage?

My field has large soil clumps that must be broken up before I can lay plastic mulch. I don't plan to use herbicide when laying the plastic.
I am concerned that weeds will germinate if I cultivate too far in advance of the mulching.
