Is all phantom power created equal?

Is there ever a case where a dying shitty laptop powering a big audio interface with 8 mics into it... phantom powers less well than, say, a wall powered audio interface? Intuitively, this makes sense, but feel free to tell me why this is wrong.

Trying again, With visuals! Will this setup between two devices work if I am supplying phantom power, or will it damage my equipment?

Okay, here is my set up https://imgur.com/gallery/5eRdL0b

Do I need to supply phantom power from one or both devices? (I saw on my other post it appears I should supply from both devices as they will suppress each other or something and the voltage will drop, but I'd like to know for sure since this is an interface and a mixer instead of two mixers as provided in the video's example)

And if I am supplying phantom power, is this going to damage the mixer or the interface?

Phantom nuclear power plant?

Back in 2015, my family and I took a drive from norther California to Washington state. Along our drive, we passed a nuclear power plant with its characteristic cooling towers poking out through the trees. Upon searching it up out of curiosity, it doesn’t appear to show up on any internet searches. It was along the I-5 corridor, and the ONLY plant that fits that description is the Trojan plant on the border of Oregon and Washington, but that plant was demolished in 2006 so I couldn’t have been that one. I can’t remember if it was in Oregon or Washington, but I know it was along I-5, but Washington doesn’t have any along the freeway either, so it seems that there is no evidence of a power plant being there in 2015, does anyone know what I’m talking about?

Just got a BAE1073 MPF. I have a TRS patchbay and an XLR patch bay. The BAE1073 has one XLR input in the back...how can I get everything wired correctly without risking frying things with phantom power.

So I'm a little annoyed by this discovery that the BAE only has one XLR input in the back. I realize I can easily wire something weird from my XLR patch bay to my TRS patchbay via an XLR to 1/4", but I've also heard lots of recommendations to not do this -- that the risk of sending phantom power where you shouldn't and frying a mic while plugging/unplugging a TRS cable is a lot higher.

I don't just want to only leave a mic input to the BAE, because I got it with the intent of running all kinds of things through it -- DI guitar (the cranked "Beatles - Revolution" sound is amazing btw), bass, synths, etc.

That said, I don't really know what other options I have. Is there a simple one I'm overlooking?

What's so nice about my Warm Audio preamps is they have a 1/4" line input on the back, and an XLR input -- my TRS patchbay has a connection to the 1/4" and my XLR patchbay has a connection to the XLR input -- and phantom power can never be sent through the line input.

Phantom Power Question

I'm using an M-Track Solo. Using the XLR line 1 for a Behringer Condenser mic. Using the TSR line 2 for my electric guitar. I leave my guitar unplugged when I'm not playing. But leave the mic connected at all times. Considering the M-Track only has phantom power on the XLR line, and not the instrument line, would it be okay to plug in/out my guitar with the phantom power on? I'd prefer not to keep switching the phantom power on and off, but not at the expense of even taking the chance of damaging my guitar. Thanks in advance for the help.

Question on 500 series racks and phantom power at the patchbays.

I’m looking to incorporate my 500-series preamps in both my tracking chain and my mixing chain through patchbay normalling. I’d like to use a 500 series rack with both XLR and TRS connectors for each channel - routing the XLR to a studio panel in my room and the TRS to the patchbay. Obviously, they won’t be used simultaneously.

Problem I see is that all the racks I’ve looked into wire the XLR and TRS jacks in parallel and I really want to avoid phantom power showing up at the patchbay. I was a little surprised that no racks that I can find address this as it seems unnecessary to have phantom power on a TRS jack if you have an XLR also available for that channel. Any suggestions?

How does 48v phantom power work from a USB interface?

Hope everyone’s day is going well! I have looked online and have not been able to find an answer, but I’m interested in researching audio equipment, and I cannot find how a USB 3.0 audio interface is able to deliver 48v of phantom power. As far as I know in terms of tech standards, USB 3.0(Type A) is at MOST capable of dispensing 900mA at 5v DC. How is it possible that it passes 48v of phantom power for microphones/preamps? And if so, at what rate/wattage would this be? Thanks so much in advance!

Help. Phantom power. Did I ruin my op1 without knowing? I can't notice any evident frying damage.

I have a question regarding the damage with phantom power when connecting the op1 to external instruments without an audio interface. I have a KAWAI CL 36 digital keyboard. This keyboard has a headphone in jack which I plugged directly into my op1 (i didn't know about this issue) (instead of connecting headphones to the keyboard I connected the op1 directly). Yes, i am new to this issue, call me a noob. Did it ruin my device? It seems to work just fine but now I'm paranoid. Should I be able to tell if that has happened? I also plugged a dynamic mic directly into op1 and my guitar directly into the op1 without any preamps or amps ( but I think that shouldn't be an issue, just not very useful.) Can somebody shed some light on my paranoia, please? I've been googling for hours.

Make phantoms explode on contact with the power of 10 end crystals, fly 10 times faster, never burn in sunlight, they spawn at any time in any y value in any dimension, and now have 100 times the health

Phantoms are not annoying enough. They need to be as destructive as possible and kill people as fast as possible as often as possible. If it cant kill you and destroy your entire house in a single tick then ita not annoying enough and it certainly doesnt deserve to exist. For every half heart the phantom is missing it adds another end crystal to its power. It listens to your mic and if you scream or cry it doubles in power permanently. If you dont then it an additional phantom spawns every day. They also spawn and attack in peaceful

Sound Devices Mixpre-6 II Phantom Power not functioning?

EDIT: I discovered the source of the problem and it was the 2 XLR cables I used with the device. They were both incorrectly soldered with the 1 & 2 pins swapped between the male & female ends. It wasn't until I tried a 3rd cable did all the mics work correctly on the Mixpre-6 II.

tl;dr - The Phantom Power on my Mixpre-6 II seems to be busted on all inputs

I tested a few dynamic mics (Shure SM57 and Shure SM7B) with no Phantom Power on with every XLR input on the Mixpre-6 II and they work perfectly fine.

I tested out multiple mics (Sennheiser MKH-416, Shure KSM32, MXL V67G, Blue Encore200) that need Phantom Power on the Mixpre-6 II and none seem to pick up any sound. I even tried each mic with 2 different XLR cables (Mogami Gold).

I also made sure to set all other inputs to OFF when testing, so that none of the other inputs were eating up any power.

I suspected something may be up with the Phantom Power, so I plugged my mics into a Fredenstein VAS mic preamp and plugged the Fredenstein into the Mixpre-6 II and all mics that need Phantom Power all worked perfectly fine on the Mixpre-6 II.

The Mixpre-6 II is being powered via the AC adapter that it came packaged with and the USB power indicator is full green, indicating that it's functioning with the highest power option.

Since the mics seemed to work fine when the Fredenstein was powering the mics, is it safe to say that the Mixpre-6 II's Phantom Power on all XLR inputs is not functioning as it's supposed to?

Also, I tested all the mics separately with my Fredenstein -> Yamaha MG10XU and all mics work perfectly fine.
