A list of puns related to "Pedal steel guitar"
My local community theater is doing this late in 2022 and as I dabble in pedal steel, I think they might ask me to do it. Would love to get eyes on the part early to see if it's doable for me, and see the two parts to compare.
Something that fits the vibe of Pinegroveβs slower stuff like these two songs

Does anyone know bossa nova that utilizes pedal steel guitar?
I play a few different instruments. Saxophone is my main instrument, and I gig quite a bit on it, although I also have a day job. Also double on flute and clarinet, and a bit of piano and accordion, but I've never played a string instrument.
Although I really do not need to learn any new instruments (vs practicing the ones I already play) I've been really wanting to learn pedal steel lately, but is that a stupid idea, and even dumber given that I don't have any experience with guitar and steel is notoriously hard to learn? I do have a pretty good working knowledge of music theory, and assume that would help at least a bit. Anyone picked up pedal steel without experience on guitar?
Listening to dirty business from NROPS and enjoying every second of Jerryβs tripped out wah on pedal steel and it just occurred to me that I donβt think Iβve heard anyone do that trick before him. I know they did in Stephen Stillsβ Manassas but that wasnβt until 72. If anyone has any idea who the first to do it was Iβm interested, and any excess of information is welcome on the topic.
Steel Pedal Guitar is a staple of modern country music although interestingly it actually was invented in Hawaii. Most people know of Pedal Steel Guitars as adding backing to country songs. But recently there has been a number of artists using it on its own in instrumentals. Most of these instrumentals are ambient such as Chuck Johnson. NPR even wrote an article on it. An older and one of the most well known pedal steel guitar players was Buddy Emmons. I think that the reason it is mostly used for ambient or as a backing instrument is because it can slide between notes without interruption.
But what actually got me into pedal steel guitar was this album by Barry Walker Jr. To me at least in this album the use of the pedal guitar is so unique. Throughout this album the pedal guitar is used as a lead instrument, but not for ambience. For example in the song Shoulda Zenith (and in many of the songs in the album) Barry Walker Jr. uses dissonant notes, fast tempo, and blaring volume which to me is the exact opposite of what one expects from a pedal guitar.
I know the album is a bit weird and Iβm not sure if I just have shit taste but I love it. What do you guys think of pedal steel guitar and other instruments being used in these non conventional ways? I honestly love it because I think weird music like this can be a source of new kinds of music.
Live's hidden track "Horse" on Throwing Copper is such an awesome tune. The pedal steel guitar is so slick. Where can I find more alt stuff with this sound? I don't want to feel like I'm in a full-blown western.. just want that nod to the sound, while still being alt/rock . And damn I think I love that moseying slow pedal steel guitar.
Hey, Im a new player and not looking to gig; just want to have something to practice on as I wait on mine to be built. Thanks for any help pointing me in the right direction!
Hey everyone, I want to get into this super bad. Iβve played guitar now for a long time and felt like itβd be cool getting into pedal steel as itβd be a new challenge etc.
Is there like a βfender playerβ of pedal steel guitars? Or solid options around $1000 bucks or less?
Been a weird experience so far trying to find one, still educating myself on the brands and everything else. Figured itβs better to ask people that play them than just googling it.
Thanks!
dm me if you're interested :)
Hey there folks!
I recently fell in love with the sound of pedal steel guitars. However, I haven't found that many songs that are using them. I really liked "Sleep Walk" by Santo & Johnny, obviously a classic, and also "Wake Me Up" by Norah Jones. Especially the latter one because of how nostalgic it sounds.
Do you guys have any recommendations? :)
I've loved the pedal steel sound for years, but I'm very aware of the price of admission not only to buy the instrument but how hard it is to get your head around playing it.
I've played guitar for 30+ years, a little piano and mandolin.
Recently a Zum encore has become available 2nd hand an hour or so away from me, and I live on the west coast of Ireland, so they aren't common at all.
Can I afford it? yes
Are there more responsible uses for the money? aren't there always
Iβve been trying to expand my playlist on Spotify and I want more songs like βtill it doesβ by Randy roger and wade bowen as well as βDixie darlinβ I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
Hello GarageBand veterans! I remember back in the day in recording studio this dude just played the chords on a MIDI player and the DAW recorded a beautiful acoustic rhythm guitar automatically. I know GarageBand has like 4 autoplay rhythms but does anyone know any other way to get more rhythms and sounds for GB iphone/ipad? Besides if anyone can introduce a synth sound that I can use as pedal steel guitar I would really really appreciate it. Thank you folks
This very well could be an incredibly stupid question but I thought I would ask anyways. I have no intention of playing a standard guitar right now, so I think that learning to play on a pedal steel from the ground up might not be as bad of an idea. Worst case, I sell a used one for less than what I got it for.
I love maintenance and repair, and from what Iβve heard these things need a lot of love. Iβve also heard that these require a very strong knowledge of music theory, which while I understand the basic concepts, I think that jumping into the deep end could be beneficial to expanding my knowledge. Thoughts?
Was quite an upbeat song. Guy outside a store on a pedal lap guitar. Some people buying bottles of beer from the store. Lyric was something like βi cant get no loving out of mind..β (possibly but maybe something completely different). Very vague sorry. Also this was one of the sample music videos on windows media centre
