A list of puns related to "Osiris myth"
I've found a few pieces of the source material for the Osiris Myth (pyramid texts, coffin texts, etc) but would love a book that includes expert analysis on the literary and theological differences between these source materials. Thanks!
In Egypt mythology, osiris started as next in line for ra's throne, then Seth outsmarted him broke him in to pieces only to be revived as the ruler of the underworld by his wife ans horus stronger then ever. In the game, osiris starts as one of the stronger guardians, lost his powere to the planing of a hive god, have crow and saint as a horus and isis standins and it starts lining up. Im going to guess in future seasion osiris become a powerful darkness user ruling over destiny's land of the dead, the ascended plain but can't leave it.
Your thoughts on this
These are some spontaneous thoughts on storytelling via the aforementioned pieces of fiction.
It has been at least imagined that Vineland inspired Tarantino's Kill Bill diptych. But what about the more subtle and universal nod to Rainbow provided by Django Unchained, which has its origin in the Osiris myth and, in my opinion, a most reasonable concept of the afterlife as sustained by science and mother earth?
We know that Slothrop does not only find himself deceased but "scattered." Another protagonist that was cut into 14 pieces and scattered is Osiris (and the precision of the subdivision of 14 reflects the precision of the mathematics of Pynchon's favorite formulas throughout Rainbow.)
The fragments of Osiris are disseminated throughout the land, speaking not only to the fertilization caused by the flooding of the Nile, but also to the fertilization brought about by the human body when placed in the ground; a practice that was of course adopted by the Greeks and thus by a large part of civilization.
Slothrop, the identity-shifting Rocket Man, builds a legacy with the climax being an epic death, scattering, and influence from beyond his body's multiple graves. This influence inspires the Counterforce's active objection to Vietnam by way of the second World War.
If you've seen Django, you know that his partner, Dr. Schulz, educates him in the methods of the bounty hunter and the silver tongue of the confidence man, before being brought to death in a rain of violence characteristic of Tarantino. After his death, Django almost unknowingly carries forth Schulz's legacy in the way that he deals with life after his partner's death, and does so in a way that is as natural as Mother Nature. Schulz, Slothrop, and Osiris all three have a profound influence on their surviving disciple(s) and in their own way alter a history. They "fertilize" their cultures.
There are of course many variations of this story, including Christ.
What d'y'all think?
Edit: we have a nod to Against the Day with Django's stealing of, and anti-societal use of, a bag of dynamite sticks.
Forgive the piecemeal format; Iβm on mobile and still trying to work through my thoughts. Everything noted below was either sourced via Wikipedia or a simple Google search for the topic (ie itβs all verifiable). I probably donβt have things 100% correct so maybe others can correct me or fill in pieces that Iβve missed.
Timing: as others have noted elsewhere, weβre currently in the peak of the dark occult βseason of the sacrificeβ. The gist of the story is that believers like to use this time of the year to make βfire sacrificesβ to the god Baal as a means of solidifying intent for events to come later in the year. Technically this time period runs from 4/19 - 5/1, so the date of 4/15 does throw things off slightly, but who knows exactly how important precision is.
Note: this spring season is ruled by Taurus, the bull, who is often symbolically associated with Osiris.
Location: prior to Christianity blossoming in France there was a pagan temple to Jupiter built on the exact same ground where Notre Dame now stands. Jupiter is the analogous Greek representation of Osiris.
Symbolism: Notre Dame (or βOur Lady of Parisβ) was consecrated to the Virgin Mary, which is the Roman Catholic representation of the feminine principle. Prior to Christianity, the ancient Egyptians knew her as Isis.
In other words, Notre Dame is (symbolically) a temple dedicated to (the idea of) Isis - built atop a temple formerly dedicated to Osiris - and as youβll see below, topped by a symbolic representation of Osiris!
In the ancient world, obelisks were representative of the (phallic) masculine principle. As time went on the idea morphed and was incorporated into similar architectural forms - namely, SPIRES. To drive the point home even further, the spire at Notre Dame had a rooster at its summit. Thatβs right - the church dedicated to the Virgin Mary was topped with a giant phallic symbol that itself was topped by a COCK. I couldnβt make this stuff up, folks.
The ritual (long story, very short): in the myth, Osiris was defeated by his mortal enemy/brother Set, who then cut his body into pieces and spread them throughout Egypt. Isis went to great lengths to find all of them but was unable to find the final piece, his phallus (cock). Using her magic she fashioned him a new phallus, made of GOLD, which resurrected him long enough for them to have sex and for her to become impregnated with Horus (the savior/golden child/hero), who would later go on to avenge his fathers death by ki

I recently realised how similar the plot of Arena and the Osiris myth are:
- Seth chops up Osiris' body, banishes him to the underworld and becomes the ruling god. He then scatters Osiris' body all over Egypt. Likewise, Jagar Tharn uses the staff of Chaos to banish the Emperor to another dimension, usurp his rule, and proceeds to scatter the pieces of his staff all over Tamriel.
- Isis seeks the pieces of Osiris' body. She finds Osiris' phallus and impregnates herself. She gives birth to Horus. Likewise, Ria Silmane finds the Eternal Champion and provides him/her with the location of the pieces of the staff of Chaos, charging him/her with the mission to reunite the pieces of the staff so as to bring the Emperor back to Nirn.
- Finally, Horus defeats Seth, losing his eye in the process. He uses his eye to revive his father Osiris. In a similar fashion, the Eternal champion reunites the pieces of the staff and defeats Jagar Tharn. He/she uses the staff to bring the Emperor back to Nirn.
There are a few other anecdotal concidences:
- Jagar Tharn was a member of the Temple of Sethiete, which deepens Tharn's association with Seth.
- The staff of Chaos is rumoured to be made of the land of Tamriel itself. Likewise, Osiris' body parts is said to be the source of names of the different kingdoms of Egypt.
Uncanny isn't it?
With Osiris being cut into different pieces, Sagira being Isis, our guardian as Horus, and the big Vex bad guy "Pancake" (I can't remember its actual name) as Set. Where in the end Osiris remains king of the underworld/Infinite forest.
So I made this post yesterday about Horus and Set: http://www.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/24gvbi/so_osiris_is_isiss_brotherhusband/ch7bksn
People seemed to like that shit, so I figure I'll do something similar for each new god.
It'll be good, right? Right.
So we start with Osiris. And let me preface this shit with a note: Myth is fucking weird and there's a million different versions of each story. So I'm probably gonna combine a few or maybe not talk about one you've heard. You have to deal with it.
So anyway, there's this god Osiris, and he's super fucking cool because he rules all of Egypt, right? He kinda trounces around like he's hot shit, just like Zeus does to the Greek gods. Well he's the son of Nut and Geb along with his sister Isis, who's also his queen (what? It's normal for them. fuck.) and his brother Set.
Now Set, well Set's an asshole, the god of desert, storms and chaos. This guy is like the Loki of the Egyptian pantheon. Something goes wrong? It's probably fucking Set's fault because he's constantly being an asshole to everyone. Well Set sees Osiris walking around like he owns the fucking place (which he does) and he kinda hates him for it. So Set goes, "I need to fuck this shit up." And starts scheming to himself and goes, "Yo, if I just kill Osiris, I can be the king." So he comes up with this brilliant plan, right? And he makes a coffin that's designed perfectly for Osiris' dimensions.
Then Set goes to all the other gods and is like, "Hey Im having a party!"
And the other gods are like, "Oh party from the god of chaos? Nothing can go wrong there, fuck yeah!"
So they go to Set's and he's like, "Guys, guys. I got this idea. I have this coffin, right? Whoever can fit perfectly in it can have it. It's like Cinderella or some shit."
Of course, it's a fancy looking coffin, so all the gods are like, "Oh shit guys, we gotta try this shit out. It's not a really weird fucking party game that we're all laying down in this coffin or anything."
So all the gods decide to get in this coffin one by one until it comes to Osiris' turn. And Osiris is like, "Guys, this kinda seems sketchy."
All the other gods are like, "Yo Osiris way to pussy out bro, just do it."
And Osiris doesn't want to be made fun of as the god of gods or anything. So he goes, "Ok guys I'll show you!"
So he gets in the coffin and Set's trap springs and the coffin closes shut on him then Set seals it with lead and pushes
... keep reading on reddit β‘So I'm having dreams full of symbolism that reminded me of the story of Osiris. Although I'm familiar with egyptian mythology and have an overall idea of the archetypical interpretation of the story of Osiris, I'm having some difficulty to understand these dreams.
In the first dream I'm in a dark old room full of shelfs. The shelfs are full of dismembered pieces of bodies and they move as I get closer. There is a head but as I get closer I see that is a face (like the mask from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Then I wake up.
The other dream I'm also in a dark old room but empty. I'm on the floor trying to put together a old falcon statue made of wood. It's like a puzzle. One of the pieces doesn't fit. There is a hole in the eye but the last piece looks like a branch. I start to look for my mother to get help. I'm in panic and can't find her. It's just a empty room with no doors.
Any ideas on how to approach this? Any thoughts on the symbolism? Does anyone know a direct book reference from Jung on the Osiris and Horus myth? I'm quite lost.
Thanks in advance.
Osiris: A present?
Set: Yep. A new bed for you to sleep in.
Osiris: Cool thanks.
Osiris: *gets banished to the Duat*

I just want to start this off saying I have not delved as deep as some into the lore of Destiny, so if you would like to add anything or please feel free to, this theory is still based mainly around speculation, leaps of logic, and lack of much information.
But inspired by all the lore vids I've been watching (Myelin Games and My name is Byf) that go into Nordic mythology and Greek mythology, as it pertains to Destiny, especially in the Master Rahool Lore vid by Myelin Games, I thought I'd dig back into Egyptian mythology for some theories - namely surrounding Osiris and Rasputin (Security State Egyptian - Isis).
The biggest line that stuck with me in the Osiris Grimoire card was the bit where he was described as possibly being a "Golden Age experiment mis-incarnated as a human by an inept Ghost."
It reminded me of the Osiris myth, where Osiris the god was killed and chopped into pieces by Set and pieced back together and revived by Isis. So I did some more digging. I went through the ishtar-collective for any references to "Isis" and "Egyptian," which took me to the Ghost Fragments of Old Russia - namely 1 and 3, describing the launch of SABER GREEN, and the counter-measures Rasputin was putting into place pre-Collapse (I assume pre-Collapse). In the Old Russia fragments, the most notable named character is General Chen Lanshu, who mentions Lhasa, so I decided to look into her as well, figuring a pre-Collapse General might have some cool lore. It is mentioned in Old Russia 3 that they made her. It also goes into Lhasa here, only mentioned one other time in the Grimoire, in Ghost Fragment Vex 5 - "What Iβm doing here in Lhasa isnβt science. Itβs unethical, secret, and shameful. And after what happened in Ishtar, dearest Chioma, I know youβd be furious with me for getting involved."
So, in their search for understanding the Vex, something Osiris is interested in as well, the Vex research team is led to Lhasa.
General Chen Lanshu is mentioned one more time in SIVA.MEM, where she is talking to a member of the Bray family regarding SIVA, created by the Clovis Bray foundation before the collapse, to be used with the Exodus project, getting people off Earth, establishing new outposts, repairing ships. General Lanshu, however wants to know if SIVA could be used in a more "defensive application".
This, coupled with the way it is mentioned that General Lanshu and other soldiers have been made makes me think that perhaps they were augmented in some way,
