I’ve lost alot from online gambling and I cannot even comprehend what other psychological effects it could have on me. Losing 80k in total from online gambling this year and a grand total of 150k in totality from the time I gambled is just absolutely killing me day after day. I still have money saved up but it hurts me to know how much I have gambled away. Online gambling is just too quick and the way you can place bets is too fast and furious, before you know it from a mere $50-$100 bet it’ll lead you to placing $500, $1000 then $5000 per hand.
I want to create this post so I can keep myself accountable and I really do not want to go back to that very stressed up mindset and always chasing a losing day or pressing up on a winning day.
I know I may not quit gambling in totality as it’s very difficult but I want to tell myself to gamble less and slowly phase out and get bored of it. I have been a gambling addict over 20 years (land based casinos) and only two months ago learned about online gambling from an autobiography of a problem gambler. (I thought you could only gamble online if allowed in your (U.S.) state....I learned differently)
I stopped the land base casinos (with a self-exclusion); but my online gambling is scaring me. I feel like a drug addict constantly trying to find/access money daily! I hate that now my addiction has entered my home so my mind never gets to rest (even during work as work from home) I also have learned about accessing money via online checks and credit cards (what they say they charge is actually lower than the actual amount charged - between $20-60 & bitcoins still have a transaction fee) Fortunately after disputing these transactions my credit card and debit card are blocked and believe they have also blocked my checking account.
My problem only got worse after the Christmas holidays as stayed with parents for 2 weeks who begged me to visit. My mom was in the hospital first week of visit (not serious more due to age). On the first day I went back to work after the weekend, at the beginning of the work day she asked when I was leaving -- I live over 11 hours away so cant just not work. The tension was high once she returned and a new trigger was created (anything to make me want to gamble more).
Suggestions on stopping this new way to gamble. I do see my Dr. again in 2 weeks but do not feel that is helping much.

I've only ever seen gambling addicts use gambling apps, they only help to serve existing addictions. If you really want to gamble, I think you should just go to a casino.
Over the last year, I got to know and become "friends" (in quotes, because I now suspect the entire relationship was one long con) with someone who lives in another state. We work in the same industry, and after a while, we came up with a business idea and began looking for investors / trying to build the business. My "friend" at one point asked me to borrow $5000 in USDT ERC20 tokens (an Ethereum based cryptocurrency) to pay for business expenses, which I lent him.
It later came out that he was not spending the money (and other investors' money) on business expenses, but rather on online gambling. I looked into him a bit more and it turns out he's a mega scumbag....he had actually already gone to other investors (who had already given him several 10s of thousands) who were about to help him raise 1 million before I told them about the situation with him...I probably could have held that over his head but I just didn't want him to be able to get away with scamming anyone else.
I have a copy of his ID, his home address, and an IOU contract.
I have hired a debt collector, who has been unable to make any progress. I have not yet filed with small claims court, and I'm actually not sure where I should even do that since we are in different states.
I would reaaaally appreciate any help at all! I'd be happy to spend to get the loan back, the debt collectors would have kept 40% of whatever they collected but they haven't been able to get anything from him.
UPDATE:
Forgot to mention, I sent him the loan using USDT Ethereum based cryptocurrency, and the IOU also states that he owes me 5000 USDT or USDC Ethereum based cryptocurrency. I'm worried this might complicate things...

Hello, I am on day 40 of sobriety. I am doing well though. I have spent 20k in gambling on credit cards or going to the casino. I do not have any debt or personal loans (thank goodness). Overall with all wins (w2g and non-w2g) in the ballpark of 160k, but never withdrew any of it and kept gambling it away so more like 180k in losses. I am doing really well despite the person financial damage I have caused myself, but at least no debt and have some money 20k saved. I am grateful every day for this group and you all and your stories and situations. It is possible to dig yourself out financially, one hour or day at a time, and I will only owe 15k to the IRS and State of MI. Let me know how you are doing.
