A list of puns related to "Off Broadway"
Are people in the city getting more brazen in their shit-headedness?
Comedy Off Broadway recently released their calendar for the next few months. Their lineup includes JP Sears, who is a "far-right comedian" YouTuber who recently started doing stand-up material promoting such things as violence against vulnerable groups and murdering protestors.
He started out making videos parodying the wellness community and hippie culture. Over the years, his material has gone further right and is now openly fascist, including such "jokes" like comparing vaccinations to penetrative rape, killing trans people, and hating people with dark skin. He's also adamantly against vaccines and has been spreading COVID misinformation for well over a year.
You can listen to another comedian in Spokane talk with the Majority Report about the things he did by clicking here. He made the entire staff uncomfortable and many staff from marginalized groups left the club for backing him.
And to be 100% clear, I am not making any call to action, one or the other, regarding this news. I am not trying to "cancel" him, or any such nonsense. I just felt it important to share this information about him since he so clearly goes under the radar and most of his fans don't realize the hateful, violent views he actually holds. So now you know.
Idk about yβall but Iβve been driving around the past couple days with no luck so look no further I found some! Limit 6
Hi all! I've just started to get into musicals in the past year or so and I loved the new Tick Tick Boom movie, and I'd love to listen to the soundtrack more. I know there's the original 2001 off-broadway soundtrack and the movie one just came out, so I'm wondering which one should I dive into? My gut is telling me the off-broadway one but I'd like to hear some of your thoughts. Thanks! :)
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Candace Bushnell in her one-woman show about her life and work. I would recommend it to any SATC fan, it was really glossy and lots of fun. She shared her life story and her own experience arriving in New York, dating and building her career. She said getting a sex column led her to creating the alter ego of Carrie and many events from her own life inspired the show (her shoe obsession, the character of Mr Big and dating a senator, for example) while other stories came from her friendsβ lives. She shared lots of advice from her own experience about relationships which was very funny and insightful.
A SATC insight I found really interesting was Candace saying that she moved away from the TV show when the plot of season 3 was being planned. She repeatedly referred to herself as a feminist, and said she couldnβt relate to Carrieβs cheating with another womanβs husband, and she didnβt want her heroine not supporting women like that.
Another titbit is that Matthew Broderick was a fan of her column and put his girlfriend SJP forward for the role when he heard a Tv show was being made. Candace married a ballet dancer and even though she was no longer involved with the show at that point, she believes that inspired the casting of Baryshnikov to play Carrieβs Russian.
She since got divorced and is now a very inspiring independent woman in her 60s, living her best life! She is still writing New York society books and still inspired by the same girlfriends, many of whom she mentioned got divorced around the same time and moved to the same area of the Hamptons, where there is a great post-divorce dating scene and she keeps running into her exes from decades ago (sounds way more fun than AJLT)!
We will be in NYC in January to see Music Man. I know we are going to see Hadestown, Wicked, and Company. However, I want to see one or two more shows and would love recommendations on what we should see.
My dad left for a pack of cigarettes and gas 14 years ago and no one has seen him since.
There are traffic cones and road blocks blocking east-west traffic, and traffic cones in front of parking entries and drive thrus. Businesses are being blocked as well. What is happening?
Hello! I'm planning a trip to NYC in early February, and was looking for any recommendations for musicals to see when I go. I'll probably be going by myself, if that changes your recommendation.
Here's the things I'm not really considering:
As for what I'm considering:
I'm curious to see opinions on the things I'm considering. If I haven't listed something (e.g. Tina, Ain't Too Proud) it's because it hasn't really piqued my interest, but if it's your favorite show and I simply MUST see it, let me know!
I'm also posting here to see if there's anything I'm missing. One of my big regrets is when I asked my friend what to see back in the summer of 2015 and she raved about Hamilton, and I didn't end up seeing it on that trip (tickets were just $200!). So: is there anything like that, that's the "next big thing" and I don't know it yet, or a smaller show that isn't getting enough recognition?
Title is self-explanatory. Looking for small theater venues to see smaller shows. Also, if anyone knows the name of the bar where Berkeley students play at night I would appreciate it.
I'm visiting NYC for the first time. I'm a grad student, going for the first time to NYC. Have always dreamed of watching a play in Broadway, but I'm aware that some of the most famous musicals are super expensive, specially for me as full time and international student.
I would like to ask for any recommendation for plays and musicals, either broadway or off broadway. I'm aware that some "less known" plays or musicals can have incredible talent, writing, and acting, and are totally worth seeing, but I currently have little knowledge of those.
Thanks!
As the title suggests, what are the differences?
Has anyone performed the '1982' edition? I know there are reduced orchestrations, and e.g. the Dentist song is in a lower key (an nowhere near as good in my opinion) in the soundtrack. Has anyone performed this version to confirm?
I literally waited in the cancellation line with a friends and they happened to have 2 seats next to each other that day. I have only stepped out of a theater and only been able to say βwowβ twice. This was one of those times. If you get any opportunity PLEASE see this amazing show!!! Itβs the best thing Iβve seen since moving to NYC. One of my favorite Sondheims is on full display.
In the city for the day and none of the shows I want to see (Company, Jersey Boys, all seems like I was a week too early) are open yet π₯² but I want to see something. Figured I would dip my toes into whatβs off-Broadway; was interested in The Visitor before I read reviewsβ¦ouch. Preferably nothing too long, was thinking of seeing Lehman Trilogy before I realized it was 3+ hours and Iβd miss my train lol
Edit: excluding LSOHβ¦sold out :(
Edit 2: got a good seat at Akimbo for $25! Thanks for the recs yβall!!
