A list of puns related to "Mind Games (John Lennon song)"
i make alternative/indie music and im having trouble with music progression in my music production mostly having trouble figuring out what sound shelp the drive of the song , like to go on to that next level in the song. is it a higher bass line ? if you can listen to mind games and go to 1:12 , you see how it. like drives up into a higher level , how does that happen? what instrument comes in to do that? thanks
Just to clarify, it is NOT the John Lennon song! I can't remember the exact timeframe this was from, but I know I watched it on YouTube in the mid or late 2000s, maybe the very early 2010s if my memory is really off. I had the video in a playlist, but it was removed at some point and I've never been able to find it again.
The singer was a man stalking around the set in dark clothes I think. The set was something like a plain background with maybe a sofa or chair in some of the shots, but usually not a lot there other than the singer and the dancers. I think the dancers were all women, and their costumes were really odd. They were mostly form-fitting and futuristic in an artsy way. Everyone was wearing something like spandex, and I think just one color for each person's outfit, like all black with a mesh veil on a dancer.
The dancing is one of the things I remember being especially odd. The singer was creeping around or maybe lounging on the sofa at some point, but the dancers moved in sort of mechanical and jerking motions. The beat of the music really emphasized it, and they all seemed sort of otherworldly because of it. Even if I'm misremembering this aspect a little, I know their dancing was deliberately abnormal to match the theme of mind games.
I'm not sure how to describe the music itself anymore except electronic. I distinctly remember the singer chanting, "Let's. Play. Mind. Games." with emphasis on every word. It was a really strange music video. I'd love to see it again, after all this time! It's kinda been haunting me, like a strange dream. lol
Thanks!

I've slowly been falling in love with this album for a while now. As of right now, it's probably my third favorite Lennon solo album, behind Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. Though admittedly, I haven't listened to Walls and Bridges yet. I think a combined album of Milk and Honey and Double Fantasy that cuts Yoko's tracks might be better, but I haven't put together a definitive track listing yet so I can't comment on that.
I really dig the track listing compared to John's other solo material. Something that hurts Plastic Ono Band and Imagine's track listing imo is that he liked to put his rock and roll songs between really soft songs. For example, one of John's hardest rock songs, Well Well Well, is between Love and Look At Me, two of his softest and most tender. That isn't really the case with this album for the most part. There's maybe a couple of instances, but the album blends together as a cohesive piece much more than his previous two solo efforts.
There's also quite a few underrated gems on this album. The title track is really amazing, but I'm not sure if that's a common belief or not. Out The Blue and I Know (I Know) are two of my favorite Lennon solo songs. I can't really name any song on here that I could point out as the weakest song, because like I mentioned before, the album blends together very well. His rock and roll songs are pretty typical and solid, his emotional songs don't sound too far off the rest of the track listing and still mesh well with the rest.
Finally, I think John did an excellent job with producing the album, considering it's the first time he ever did that. To this point, every album he worked on that was a really cohesive album (so excluding stuff like Two Virgins) were all produced by someone else. All of The Beatles albums were produced by George Martin except for LIB. After they broke up, he worked with Spector on Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. So he took the dive and did it himself on Mind Games and it turned out pretty well. Admittedly, I think the production might sound a bit more dated than some of his other works, but they're still solid and it hasn't aged in a way that makes it unfavorable.
Overall, from what I've seen when solo albums are discussed here, I think Mind Games isn't given the proper credit it should. I might even go as far as to say that it's my personal favorite solo Beatles album in '73, even though McCartney was doing much better commercially and Band On The Run is a very solid album in its
