A list of puns related to "Metronidazole"
Could someone explain the difference between soolantra (ivermectin cream) and rosex (metronidazole gel/cream).
I've been given both to use, along with some antibiotic pills. I use the rosex twice a day, and then use the soolantra on and off if I'm having a flare up. Doctors are a nightmare to get hold of at the moment, so wanted to know if what I'm doing is correct? As well as how the two products differ from each other?
I'll start with usual disclosures in saying that I've absolutely zero medical background, and don't claim to be any sort of expert. That said, going on year four since my diagnosis, I empathize with anyone who struggles with rosacea, and wanted to share something that has worked and is still working for me.
To combat the occurrence of the small pus-filled bumps that commonly accompany rosacea, my dermatologist prescribed metronidazole. I was ready to fill the prescription right up until I got the price tag at the pharmacy βΒ $400. Even with the excellent insurance my job provided, this felt exorbitant, and for many people, I'd imagine this is cost-prohibitive.
A couple of years ago, I got into self-tanning to help mask the redness in my face β using LovingTan's ultra-dark mousse. As far as colour goes, it did help, but what I began to notice was that the days I'd apply the tanning mousse, I wouldn't get any bumps. Mostly, I figured this was just because I was washing my face three times in a day, and that the extra cleaning helped to ward-off the condition. However, as I got more into the products, I began using the all-day face tan/moisturizer to help maintain colour through the week. Once I started applying this daily (morning and night), the bumps on my face and even the flaky/dry skin pretty much all but entirely disappeared.
I have no idea what's in the product that's helping to abate the condition, but I've gone back and forth between using a traditional facial moisturizer, the one prescribed by my dermatologist, and the face tan. Each time I switch back to the face tan, my rosacea symptoms diminish significantly. There's certainly the possibility that whatever is in the product is actually terrible for my skin, but going on a couple of years, it's worked really well for me, and it's certainly beat the $400/mo price tag for metronidazole.
I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has any idea with respect to why this is working for me, or if anyone else has had the same results with similar products. Wishing all of y'all the best in managing your symptoms!
I was prescribed both, but I only want to pay for one. Regular doc prescribed metronidazole a while ago but it was out of stock until today, so I have yet to try it. The dermatologist prescribed clindamycin and doxycycline. I will get the doxy either way, but any suggestions of which lotion? (Clindamycin is cheaper, but I want the best results)
This is my first ever time trying any type of treatment for my rosacea. I never knew I even had it until I started digging more on skincare websites (I didnβt know there were different types of rosacea!) and here on Reddit.
I still need to pick out a good face wash and lotion. I may use the aveeno calming cleanser + cerave moisturizer + a random spf lotion just to get a easy, simple routine going. If you have any recommendations please share.
Does anyone have experiences with this topical combo though? I hope it works for me.
I just got prescribed 500mg of metronidazole for a week to treat my bv but my period starts tomorrow, is that going to effect anything?
Has anyone had really bad side effects from this? I just switched from a liquid diet to low fiber. Idk if itβs my Diverticulitis or this antibiotic. I feel very lightheaded/nauseous and in a daze. Iβve been diarrheaing and just feel drained. The dizziness/lightheaded is whatβs concerning me. Has anyone had these side effects or should I head to the ER? No fever.
(sorry that the post is so long and also for any mistakes English isn't me 1st language) Hi I'm 15 I've been in a flare up, stuck in my house for a year now. The entire year almost non stop I've had diarrhea I'm going to the bathroom 5-8 times in the day and I'm waking up 3-6 times at night, the worst thing is that (as most of us know) when I have to go now just instantly.
It makes it impossible for me to leave the house for anything else than doctor appointments. The problem is rn I technically don't even have an inflammation anymore cause my calprotectin is within 200-300 and a year ago it was around 3000
So far I've tried mesalamine, sulfasalazine, steroids, even anxiety meds (cause doctors suspected anxiety related somatic issues) dairy/egg free diet, gluten free diet - nothing works
Except... Metronidazole I've been taking it for 3 weeks total this year and it helps instantly even after just 2 pills I sleep through the entire night and even my family notices a change in my energy levels, how do I say it I just seem alive for a change.
Does anyone know what it can be caused by? Or maybe what other things can cause the diarrhea? I would be very thankful for any kind of advice/hints I am VERY desperate
I was discharged from the ER this morning after a week of bloody diarrhea x10 daily and given a script for these two antibiotics. I was diagnosed with UC in June of 2020 and had symptoms back in 2018. 2020 tests show I had antibodies to c diff but no active toxin. Iβm scared to pick these meds up because antibiotics are known to make these symptoms worse for me. I have an appointment with my GI 1/4
I was just prescribed these two antibiotics the other day through a telehealth appointment for a tooth infection. I have anxiety and I am always extremely nervous when taking new medications. I couldn't find any reviews on the internet of anyone taking these two together and now I just keep putting them off because of fear of side effects. Has anyone ever taken these together? Is this a common combination?
Thank you!
First off, huge thank you to the person who gave me great advice the last time I posted. I won't call you out by name but I'm very grateful to you. Because my doctor refused to keep working with me, you encouraged me to show him studies about sibo and about antibiotics to help plead my case. I took your information and ran with it, finding even more to strengthen my case and as you said "make his life easier". Well, it worked, he was impressed and realized I'm very well informed on this subject. He had no issues with prescribing the 3rd course of Rifaximin, this time with Metronidazole as recommended by my nutritionist. I have both hydrogen and methane sibo, which is why Rifaximin alone wasn't enough the issue. (Rfx is more useful in battling hydrogen, less useful for methane)
I start my two week course today. Not looking forward to experiencing side effects again, but hopeful for a better result in the end this time around.π€ (last time I experienced extreme fatigue and anxiety).
I hope you'll all wish me luck! Thanks so much to this community for your help and making me feel like I'm not alone in this. Together we can get through this, guys. β
I'm taking it for BV and all symptoms have cleared. I have a day and a half left but taking these pills makes me so so bloated and constipated (Even on probiotics and fruit smoothies). I had to take it a few months ago but switched because the side effects were so bad.
This time I've made it this far, 5.5 out of the 7 days. Is that enough or should I power through the rest?
Update: 45 minutes after I took it I threw up. I've had no alcohol. What's that about?
Iβm on day 3 of metronidazole and I canβt stay out of the bathroom. My head hurts, I keep randomly getting dizzy. My stomach hurts so bad it kept me up all night.
I take it with food and have been drinking plenty of water. I feel like my stomach is on fire. Iβm also taking tons of probiotics and eating yogurt.
Should I just get the gel instead? I donβt know if I can do another 4 days. Sorry for complaining so much.
Hi! My dog is being treated for giardia and is on metronidazole. We ran out of tablet pills so we had to go pick a couple more up. Well, I forgot about them in the car accidentally so they were in the car from 12:30 - 6:50 P.M. It was 30 - 32 degrees F but felt much colder with wind chill, probably 20 - 25 degrees F. When I remembered and got them out of the car the tablets were cold to the touch, but there was no condensation on the bottle and the tablets didn't seem frozen. My main concern is whether being left in the car during those temperatures for 6+ hours could've caused changes to the medication or rendered them less effective. If anyone has any insight on this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
I recently started using a compound prescribed by my dermatologist that is Azelaic Acid 15%/Metronidazole 1%/ Ivermectin 1%. I have been using it at night on top of a moisturizer.
After a couple of weeks, I've noticed that it seems to result in reduced redness between blood vessels, but the vessels themselves seem more dilated than usual. The overall effect is that my cheeks look a little worse than before treatment, but my nose looks a little better. I guess because of the proportion of flushing to visible blood vessels. And when I wash my face in the morning, I can feel my cheeks calm down.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does the effect of this compound change over time?
as I know, METRONIDAZOLE stops ADH from working so ETHANOL won't become ACETALDEHYDE.
and DISULFURAM stops ALDH from working so it will cause the accumulation of ACETALDEHYDE (after drinking ETHANOL).
so why we call the effect caused by METRONIDAZOLE by DISULFURAM-LIKE despite they cause the accumulation of different metabolites ?????.
I hope I did explain well
My 27lb dog, unfortunately, has giardia and is currently on 250mg metronidazole every twelve hours. When I gave him his dosage tonight he spit it out and it got dirt on it from the ground. It was still whole, but pieces obviously broke off from his saliva. Like I said, the pill was dirty, so I decided to just get a new one to give him since I could always buy one more pill at his vet's office some time in the next week. After I gave him the new, clean pill though, I started worrying that he might've swallowed too much of the powder from the pill and gotten too high of a dosage. I know that I sound a bit crazy, but I'm a big worrier and just want to ensure that he didn't get too much. Thanks
So I've take 1 tablet of 400mg of metronidazol this morning. I didn't realise you couldn't drink with it til now. I'm at my birthday tonight and want to have a drink before starting the course (where I wont be drinking for 7 days). Will I be OK tonight considering I've only take 1 tablet this morning? I'm aware the reaction is pretty bad but hoping I can have my party tonight then commence antibiotics 24hrs after last drink.
Thank you
Male, 28yrs, 73kg, 6'2, healthy and no other meds, no symptoms, just had tooth removed.
Recently, the SIBO hypothesis has received great attention, in part due to positive outcomes of antibiotic treatments, as in this case: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSSD/comments/q03uci/gut_microbiota_theory_how_i_finally_cured_my_pssd/.
However, it has been overlooked the fact that metronidazole is probably an MAO inhibitor, like the antidepressants phenelzine, tranylcypromine, and moclobemide (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11411591/).
An additional clue to the psychotropic activity of metronidazole is its potential for inducing serotonergic syndrome (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18971895/) and mania (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33409111/), similarly to other serotonergic and dopaminergic agents.
The occurrence of persistent recovery or improvement following the reinstatement of antidepressant medications is a known phenomenon in this community and has also been reported specifically following the use of the MAO inhibitor moclobemide. This is a relevant case of partial recovery with moclobemide https://pssdforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=504.
In light of this information, it would be appropriate to consider the possibility that the SIBO status of subjects who recovered using antibiotics was not relevant to their recovery from PSSD, whereas it is possible that the medications had a direct effect on the latter.
Hello you all,
I was prescribed a 30g Metronidazole cream by my dermatologist last month for my PD (strong red line below my underlip, some red above my upper lip and nose as well and some pustules that come and go) and so far I have seen no change. It didn't worsen it either though, no reaction at all it seems.
To those of you that had success using metronidazole: When did you first see results? Do you think it can take a couple of months to be effective?
If not, should I ask my derm for doxy (or any other oral antibiotic) at my next appointment, which is in March next year? Thanks in advance!
I have been on tretinoin for some time now and it is immensely helping in making my pustules disappear quickly. I use it 2 days straight then 1 day in between. I'm starting metronidazole gel soon because it's the only thing I have access too. Sulfur burns my face and Soolantra is not available in my country. Oral antibiotics destroyed my gut biome and made my seb derm worst.
I''m wondering if I can use metronidazole in conjunction with Tretinoin. I can't give up tretinoin it has changed my skin for the better. Please help.
Our 12 year old GSD is on Metronidazole to treat his diarrhea. It is working for him but now there is one issue. Since he began his meds we noticed he has been urinating himself while lying down. He also dribbles a bit of urine while heβs walking around our home.
I spoke to our vet and she said it might be a behavioral issue and not the meds.
Has anyone else experienced this with their GSD on Metronidazole?
Iβm constantly cleaning up after him and am taking him outside to relieve himself. I take him out to pee every hour. Itβs getting a bit exhausting , since Iβm on vacation itβs not a big deal but not sure how we will handle this once I go back to work in a week.
Any help would be much appreciated by us and our pet Max !
Hi, an (reputable) online doctor service diagnosed me with rosacea, although I paid for this it wasn't a very detailed diagnosis, but I think it's right anyway. I can purchase either metronidazole or ivermectin.
Could anyone suggest which might be best for me, I don't flush much, but I get papules and pustules which are a real nuisance and the texture of my skin is very pitted with open pores, and quite dry and sensitive. I tried both Azelaic acid and sulphur soap before which my skin hated.
Thanks so much for any help
Hi all!
My 10 month old pup got a new chew on Saturday as a special treat from a family member and it was clear a few hours later that it didnβt agree with her. She was up all night having very explosive diarrhea.
I put her on a bland diet (chicken and rice) on Sunday, but it still didnβt get better. I called my vet on Tuesday and they prescribed a week of Metronidazole to clear it up.
I started her on the meds and I still continued with the bland diet as directed.
Her stools have gotten better, however they have a dark green tint to them.
Obviously because of the holiday, the vet is closed until Monday and I wouldnβt consider this an ER type thing. I plan on calling on Monday to follow-up.
I was just wondering if anyone elseβs dog experienced the same weird stool discoloration on Metronidazole?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, my first post ever. I'm on day 6 of 10 of cipro + metro, i feel nausea, diarrhea and almost passed out (feelling very weak), but i still have apetite. Anyone else felt that talking this combo? Should i be taking rifaximin?
A little more background: Iβve been using this topical medication for about 6 weeks now along with Tretinoin cream (which Iβve been using longer) and my acne seems noticeably worse than before I started using either, but particularly since starting the Metro gel.
It seems like some of my breakouts could be healing faster than usual, but Iβm not sure, and the red/dark spots left behind are seeming to last just as long or longer.
Should I ask my doctor? Or is this normal?
I was just recently prescribed metronidazole 0.75% cream and I was wondering if there are any ingredients/products I should not use in conjunction with it. I have so many skincare products but Iβm nervous to use any of it.
A little backstory: I've been experiencing constant bloating, incomplete bowel movements, slowed digestion, lack of appetite/feeling full after a couple of bites, constipation, and soft stool for about a year and a half. I've always had issues with constipation on and off my whole life (stress definitely impacts it) and think I may have pelvic floor dysfunction (testing for this soon). About 6 years ago I started taking Senna nightly without realizing that would have long term negative effects on my colon. At the beginning of the pandemic, I got a UTI and took an antibiotic for it which seems to have messed my gut up completely, possibly accelerating Sibo. Recently, I took a Sibo breath test and tested positive for hydrogen dominant Sibo. This confused me since I don't experience diarrhea (just soft stool) but lean towards incomplete bowel movements or constipation. It might be hydrogen sulfide Sibo but that also seems to be paired with diarrhea. Either way, my doctor recommended Xifaxin and Neomycin (and my nutritionist recommended sunfiber). My insurance (Blue Cross California) denied coverage of Xifaxin saying it could only be covered if I had diarrhea. It's $2348. My doctor then suggested using Flagyl which seems like it would wipe out my microbiome and possibly my cause more damage? I'm curious 1) if anyone has used Flagyl and Neomycin and sunfiber successfully for Sibo and 2) if anyone has been able to get coverage for Xifaxin? I'm considering just coming up with the money out of pocket if it will end this awful cycle I've been stuck in!
Does soolantra help with redness? I am using metronidazole which is helping with bumps. I have only had success with treating rosacea bumps but never redness.
