A list of puns related to "Megan Amram"
Think either of them will talk about that whole situation. She's been on before and worked with Mike for years.
I finally got around to reading this one since I've been working my way through the black list and it stuck with me a bit.
First of all, I think Megan Amram is a really solid comedic writer, and I've enjoyed her work on Parks and Rec and The Good Place. There were more than a few moments in this that genuinely got laughs out of me just on text, which is saying a lot. However, I can't help but feel like certain aspects of the story were not only predictable, but also fell into the trap of 'self insert wish fulfillment' without the self-awareness you need to pull something like that off; a part of me was taken back to reading fan fictions in middle school, when there would be the cool new badass character that beats up all their bullies with the help of their favorite fictional hero, in what was clearly them dealing with real situations they had been subjected to in school.
It feels as though Amram is essentially taking the 'winning an argument in the shower' and multiplying that into a feature length screenplay, albeit with caricatures of her antagonsists placed in a fantasy where she manages to reduce them to bumbling fools, even down to literally having a character say they're hosting an 'incel meeting in their mom's back house'.
I think with some reworking of the tone to make it feel more subversive, rather than relying on narrative cliches that have been done to death (such as the 'character becomes cool, abandons her uncool friend, realizes she made a mistake and goes back to her that we've seen numerous times before) that this could genuinely be a really special project; the premise is great, the humor is on point, but I found the plot itself lacking, though by no means beyond salvaging.
What did y'all think?
