A list of puns related to "An Emmy for Megan"
I had the box set in the early 90s so my children and I grew up on TNG. Until this day you can just say an episode title to my 30 year old daughter and she just starts talking about it like it's no big deal she remembers all the titles. Recently I have been re-watching on Netflix and just finished S4Ep2 "Family." Wow, I defy anyone to show me more compelling subject matter or better dialogue or acting that year than the mud fight scene. He should have WON an Emmy for that as well as the writers.
Then I stopped to think about all of the times he has brought me to tears or made me cheer out loud or shake my fist in righteousness, just because of the way he delivers his lines and is as polished an actor as Picard is a Captain. Think about it yourself....when he quoted Hamlet back at Q in "Hide and Q", or when he realized what was happening in "The Inner Light," both Emmy worthy performances. Oh, and how about an Oscar nod for the ready room scene in the movie "First Contact?" I rewatch that scene from time to time just to see a master perform the craft and art of acting.
So, I really hope these institutions begin to take Science Fiction and specifically Star Trek seriously and recognize that, despite the settings, these are still stories about people with real emotions and struggles. And that means that the portrayals of these characters afford opportunity to examine the human condition, making them award worthy. And there's the rub. Portrayal of the human condition has always been the ultimate storyline of the whole franchise. It's unbelievable that the decision makers just exclude a whole category of television that stretches an actors chops and creates beautiful performances, thereby making it useless for these actors to seek lobbying, as is done (I have heard), to garner the award. I think it's a vicious cycle.
But, Holy Shit! in "Family" when he started to cry, "I should have been able to stop them!" the whole episode comes into focus and you realize that Robert knew all along that loss of control and individuality would be Jean-Luc's struggle, he knew this more than anyone else and goaded him until he cracked. It was a brilliant storyline and Patrick Stewart should have won an Emmy for his performance.
Sheβs helped to direct the animation for the majority of the episodes in the past decade, City Sushi included. If she was ever offended at any of the content, sheβd left a long time ago, unless youβre that cynical and claim sheβs gotta get paid.
The show makes fun of everyone. Thatβs not a defense; thatβs a fact. If comedy is just punching down on one side, then itβs not doing itβs job.
I honestly enjoyed every performance but what left me in shock was how good Stephen Dorff was. Going into the season I knew Mahershala Ali was gonna be great and I had no idea Dorff would have such a big role. All I remember Dorff from was The Gate and Blade so I wasnβt expecting much, but god damn his character work with each timeline was raw and captivating. His work with Scoot Mcnairy was some of the most heart wrenching work in the show. I donβt want to spoil anything so I have to be discreet but I feel like Ali obviously deserves a nomination but Dorff deserves one as well. He helped carry the show to almost season 1 quality. I gotta hand it to them because they really rebounded from the misfire in season 2, Dorff and Aliβs performances were both Emmy worthy.
I'm calling it now. I also think he is going to win. Regardless of how you felt about this episode, I think it's tough to claim he didn't direct the shit out of this episode.
I also absolutely love how fearless Bill was in putting this episode out there. He and Alec are not afraid to make the unsafe choices with this show. It makes me respect them SO much. It takes a lot of confidence and creative integrity to do that. Even if you didn't like this episode, it's got to make you want to continue to tune in knowing that this show is willing to go places and surprise you in ways you never expected. Bill Hader knew full well this episode would be polarizing but he did it anyway. I love him all the more for it.
Alison Wright played the hell out of this character, one of the best long-running characters on the show who has a heckuva of a character arc. She starts out as comic relief, somewhat trivial. An older woman, lonely, without a solid romance. You laugh at her making googly eyes at Clark/Philip & guffaw--"how can anyone be so dumb?" But then the writers kick things up a notch, We see Martha has a good heart and is so in love with her new husband, that she'd do anything for him, especially when it means his getting ahead at work. Clark/Philip plays her for everything he can get out of her, >!And things get complicated. Philip actually cares for her & EST has awakened his compassion. He tries hard to protect her from the consequences of her actions, the things he's made her do under false pretenses. He knows he's made her a traitor & if she's caught, she'd suffer the highest punishment. Philip begins to take draconian measures, unbeknownst to Gabriel or even Elizabeth, to keep her safe, When Martha threatens to leave him, sensing something is not right, Philip reveals his true self to her, one of the most stunning moments in the series. Martha has gone from a joke to a tragic victim. There is no other character in this series with such a compelling storyline.!<

I feel that she was snubbed last year. Her performance as Dawn is pretty phenomenal. Many scenes i feel she outacts Don Cheadle. Really strong character she is playing. I definitely recommend and hope the network and producers push her for a nod for Best Actress in a Comedy

Hey reddit! Iβm Maureen, CEO and co-founder of Baobab Studios. I love animation and took a circuitous path to get here. FF8 convinced me to pursue a career in it (though 9 is my favorite), but my parents told me I'd be destitute if I worked in film and forbade it. I was UI designer and PM at eBay, then assistant to Zach Braff and Joseph Gordon Levitt's talent manager, then got an MBA, interned at Pixar on the Toy Story 3 production team, then joined Zynga at the very beginning (crazy ride), became VP of games looking over the Farmvilles. Still couldn't shake my first love of animation, so worked with my friends Dice and Robert from Pixar (and now Tonko House) on Totoro Forest Project, Sketchtravel, and then The Dam Keeper (2015 Oscar nom animated short). I fell in love with VR when my game devs hacked animation into a headset. Realized it was the future of animation and jumped head in. In my spare time, I play Zelda (am a bit obsessive about collecting all the korok seeds) and hope one day Baobab will be so successful that I can ride Shadowfax in my own Shire.
