I was wondering if anyone had any leads for learning about the nitty gritty processing techniques and machines used in making mock meats like the impossible or beyond burger?

Thinking about it, if meat is ever phased out in favor of these analogues, I'm wondering how that would affect smaller farmers. You can always raise a cow, and how you raise that cow (say grass fed vs. standard diet) can affect the flavor and quality of the meat, so smaller farmers can always somewhat compete, or at least get by against larger beef producers. You can't really raise an extruder though. What you can do is raise higher quality peas/ soy/ etc. to create plant proteins if you had the right equipment to process them.

I'm wondering if you all think there would ever be demand for smaller scale, simplified meat analogue processing equipment going forward so that these growers could transition and compete with mock meat giants?

I don't have anything important to share. I am just optimistic about a plant-based future.

I'm interested in giving up meat forever, but I can't give up the deliciousness and calorie/protein-density/mouthfeel/etc of meat. Is there a meat analogue that has no distinguishable difference from actual meat?

So, we entertain from time to time and some of our friends are Vegan or at least aspire. One of the parties was a room-party at a much larger event, and in planning the menu one person kept wanting Vegan-equivalents of already-selected meat-based dishes. To me this was a poor use of the budget since we weren't basing even half of the menu on meat-based dishes and we made an effort for non-meat dishes that normally used animal products to substitute Vegan-acceptable ingredients (ie, vegetable stock in place of chicken stock in the dressing).

We figured that original Vegan dishes that weren't essentially copying the meat dishes (ie, vegan meatballs to go with our meatballs, fried tofu bits to go with fried chicken tenders, etc) would have been better for the menu since we could have prepared a lot more food that would have been acceptable everyone, and made a lot greater quantities of these dishes so that they'd have formed the base, with the meat-based dishes held as highlights. This would have given the most variety.

I'm interested in opinions on meat-analogues versus dishes that are not trying to replicate a meat-based dish.

• After vanquishing a group of Ocean Crawlers, Phantoms or skeletons, crews should now enjoy a much longer respite period before encountering them again on the same island.

Hit Registration on Distant Targets

• Improvements have been made to how hit detection calculates bullets affected by gravity, providing a small improvement to hit registration for ranged weapons when firing at medium- to long-distance targets.

Selling Firework Crates

• Firework Crates can now be sold back to the Merchant Alliance and Reaper’s Bones even when no longer full – but expect a reduced payout!

I listen for the sound of the door sealing behind me as we stride away, down the Access Stairways. I hear it. If they’re opportunists who are just looking to take anything that isn’t nailed down, she should be safe.

What’s this distracting gnawing in my stomach? Did I eat something that didn’t agree with me? I really can’t afford to be compromised like this right now! Doesn’t adrenaline usually fix distracting normal bodily function signals like this? You never feel tired, hungry, thirsty, poorly or like you really just need to pop to the loo, when your adrenal gland has been tipped out on your nervous system…!

Is it going to cause problems that I’ve revealed exactly what I think the pecking order is? Is Cookie going to resent me putting him last? Is Tuun going to be insecure about going after Samus? Tuun’s smarter than either of us but… I need a clear head in charge. Tuun’s still a bit green. Whatever… that’s a problem for Victor to address… if he survives. Right now, I’m not Victor, I’m ‘Acting Commander’.

As we reach Deck 1, I consider jumping the railing to get the last 5m to Deck 0… in the low gravity it wouldn’t injure me, Tuun and Samus would follow… best not… one of the untrained deputies might roll an ankle or crack a tail vertebra.

Then I hear a mass of sibilance and gutturals coming from behind me… Fuck! Hassi doesn’t speak English! Of course she doesn’t! She only encountered Terrans weeks ago… even a Human couldn’t learn a language quite that fast! Plus, she’d probably learn Hindi if she were going to learn anything.

We lucked out that everyone else speaks my first language. I know it’s the closest thing to a Terran lingua franca there is but not every Terran speaks it!

“You three!” I say addressing those who aren’t SOs but do speak English “New plan: Find somethin’ you’re happy usin’ as a bludgeon. I think there’re some railing posts in that crate over there. Just get somethin’ you’re happier with than bare hands! When you’re done rearming, I want Mage and Mouse guardin’ Starboard side door and Cookie and Hassi on Port! Turning to Hassi I try to remember enough Galactic Basic to say “Follow friends find thing for hit. Go Krish after.” while backing it up with Human adapted Galactic Basic Sign Language… she seems to understand…

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Series Intro: (I am getting increasingly worried about the amount of warning signals that are flashing red for hyperinflation- I believe the process has already begun, as I will lay out in this paper. The first stages of hyperinflation begin slowly, and as this is an exponential process, most people will not grasp the true extent of it until it is too late. I want to caveat the below by stating that I do not think a potential hyperinflation in the U.S. would look the exact same as Weimar Germany. We have had 100 years of technological and social advancement, and thus it would manifest very differently today. The 1920’s German hyperinflation is a worst-case scenario, but it is vital to understand the history to analyze the similar situation which our nation faces.

As we all know, Crestoria is drawing to a close. So, I thought that, in the absence of a banner, I would instead analyze Crestoria as a whole. The formatting will be a bit different from the norm, but that's all part of the fun. I welcome you to read this, the final Should You Pull for Tales of Crestoria.

The Good: First off, for all the accolades the story gets, the ones deserving of the most praise is you, dear community. There was the occasional doomposting, sure, but as a whole, the entire community was an overwhelmingly positive one, replete with genuine goodness and desire to help one another be better than we were before. We laughed together, we cried together, we commiserated over bad pulls and worse raid mechanics together. A better community, one could not ask for. Just as Kanata and the others, no matter how tragic and dark the night, we rose to greet the new dawn. Always.

For the story, it was always an overwhelmingly solid concept, even if there were nitpicks about its specifics. There was a definite Hero's Journey story, starting at a race to command your attention, and slowing to a nice, leisurely pace as all the threads came together, before finally rising to the crescendo of Chapter 10. Here's to hoping that it sees completion one day, as an online manga of a story, or something similar. If nothing else, the work and love put into the cast and the story deserve it.

The Bad and The Ugly: Here, we get into the meat and potatoes of where it all went so wrong. For a game based around the concept of sinning, it certainly committed no few sins of its own.

The First Sin was, in my opinion, the most egregious. The game had so many different paths to advance a single character, and each and every one had to be completed to fully unlock their potential. Most rode the fine line between being a simple Stamina dump and being arduous, but none broke new players' backs as much as the Transcendence Board did. Moreso than Chalice quests, Transcendence Raids were far more limited, and far more difficult, than any core character advancement path had any business being. Especially with how much damage output and survivability was locked behind those tiles. New players had no real means to get any meaningful advancement or way to earn those Transcendence raid items outside of blowing their three raids a day, in exchange for a pittance of rewards, as other players swooped in to race each other to a killing blow, because the only way to m
