A list of puns related to "Mycoprotein"
Hi! So I was strictly vegan for over a here but at my 1 year mark I decided to allow myself to eat vegetarian here and there. Since then, I discovered mycoprotein. I bought the Quorn meatless pieces and manβ¦ theyβre delicious! Better than any meat sub Iβve tried so far. I had never heard of mycoprotein before so I googled it and there was a bunch of articles against it, questioning itβs safety. Mayo Clinic says itβs good. Iβm trying to see if any of you have any info to share or any links to research papers or reputable sources on it?
Hereβs a link to the study
Please make sure you aren't allergic to any of the ingredients before eating.
my friend is trying to be vegan, but shes tried a few faux meats and has been ill, we are not sure if it is because she is allergic to mycoprotein or soy. Im not the closest to her so we arent at a stage where I can ask her if they make her shit herself hahaha soz!
Any help appreciated, any recommendations of products in UK supermarkets or likely to be in health foods/H&B/vegan shops really appreciated!!!!
Hi all. Recent colonoscopy and biopsy has revealed microscopic collagenous colitis. Being a vegetarian it's tricky to get the diet right, also a huge contradiction on the interwebs about what's best as a source of protein. My main 3 protein sources are Quorn/Tofu/Soy Protein. What's best for me in your experience?
According to a small study from Exeter University. Hopefully, it'll get studied more!
I think I might be allergic to Quorn? I made veggie bolognese (BF is veggie) and he was fine but Iβve had an upset stomach and killer heart burn. Iβve read a few stories about people being allergic to the protein in Quorn, mycoprotein.
Is this common symptoms? Do all protein substitutes have the same ingredient or can I try something else and not get sick?
I just learned of the meat substitute Quorn today and it got me wondering why no one's tried blending it with beef or chicken to create hotdogs or burgers that are healthier and more environmentally responsible while still appealing to a meat eater's palate. That particular brand of fungus-based protein has been around since the 80's so you'd think they would have had plenty of time to experiment with hybrids. Is there no market for dietary in-betweeners (the veggie curious, if you will), or is it a technical issue of binding two different kinds of proteins together? The same goes for plant-based protein substitutes, too: I don't think I've seen any meat hybrids of those before, either.
I don't have anything important to share. I am just optimistic about a plant-based future.
So I was eating some Quorn chicken and decided to look up "Mycoprotein" because I knew nothing about it. I ended up in a sea of articles claiming that there have been a lot of serious health issues with people for 15+ years due to this type of protein (later learned it's basically glorified mold) and I'm really curious why this has never really been public knowledge and why Quorn has never put any warnings on their packaging? I definitely am thinking twice about buying their products anymore. Not just because I'm not hot on eating mold, but because after the many lawsuits that have been filed against them, they've never admitted that their product might be harmful.
I tried fitness. I tried vegan fitness. Both failed me :(
So, reposting:
I've been looking around for high-protein vegan foods and, as far as solids go, the best in terms of macros appears to be vegan quorn, as it's got a very high "mycoprotein" content.
Their website says it has a complete amino acid profile, and is comparable to meat and eggs and such, but this could be a biased source.
I've also read that some science centre thinks it's super dangerous, which is sad.
Does anyone know anything past these claims? Are they correct in their assessment? Anything else I can read?

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
