Manti (food) Puns

I’ve been wanting to get a mantis for a while, but have always been uncertain of the actual process of feeding them, and can never seem to find a straightforward answer. I’m wondering about the following for owning just 1 mantis:

1. When you first buy the mantis, obviously you also need to buy food for them at the same time. What do you get and where?

2. As they grow, what food do you switch to and where do you get it?

3. Do you have to constantly buy more food or is there a way to get a large amount at once or insects that reproduce easily?

This has been my big holdup but I think I want to just get this info and go for it.

Hey guys! I have a Giant African Mantis nymph and currently feeding hydei .. for future though, I cannot find any blue bottle flies or flies in general. Would I be able to sub with anything else? Commonly found where I am is mealworms, BSFL, hornworms & crickets.

My spiny flower mantis hasn’t eaten in about 9-10 days since their abdomen looked full the whole time. They finally molted today and now their abdomen looks really flat. I know you should wait a couple days after a molt before feeding. Will they be ok waiting? I’ve heard they can last about two weeks without food, but I just worry they’re going to starve.

Hi everyone! A few days ago, my praying mantis eggs hatched and I now have some wonderful mantis babies. The only issue is they hatched earlier than expected and I have no food for them. The rainy weather has proven difficult to catch things small enough for them to eat, and of course, catch enough for all of them. They're currently in their L1 stage and can eat things like fruit flies, aphids, roach nymphs, etc.

Can anyone recommend a place where I can buy live fruit flies/etc? I can't have a fruit fly habitat/farm because my mum has forbidden them but I reckon I can get away with buying them as a batch and just using those up as I go.

I have to very gently direct fruit flies with tweezers to walk in her line of vision and this can take up to ten minutes (per fly) because she’ll refuse to strike/or will miss her strike

I think I know the answer to this but I have to try. I've got a mantis I want to tame but her food won't go down and she's losing health instead. I had to drag her across water and she lost stamina and eating put her stamina back up and her food to 0 and I had to wait to feed her again as she lost health. Now after feeding her again her food is maxed and won't go down and her health is slowly draining. Is there any way to salvage this? I've already tried healing with an owl and tek pistol and she's ko'd atm. I'm on official servers so I can't mess with or have messed with any settings.

Edit: I suppose drag was the wrong word, I lured her across a body of water to my trap that I tame mantis in. She lost stamina from swimming.

Due to bad planning on my part I’ve started my D. hydei culture too late and I need another food source for my mantis nymphs until the hydeis are producing again. The available options at my pet store are crickets, calciworms, waxworms and mealworms. Does anyone have any advice as to which of these feeders would be best, or which feeder to stay away from?

I've become really interested in giant asian mantises and was wondering what L3 to L5 nymphs eat.

I was living in Lebanon and now moved over to Armenia. While in Lebanon I developed a love for Armenian food, my favorites being manti and soubereg. Every Armenian restaurant in Beirut serves them.

In Armenia though people don't seem to know what they are. I've asked a few friends and they're just like wtf is that it's not Armenian. This actually kind of fascinates me because in Lebanon it sounds like Armenian food is different food than food in actual Armenia.

Does anyone know why this is? One person said the food in Beirut is Western Armenian which is a totally different cuisine. I apologize if this question is ignorant I'm just genuinely curious of how Lebanon, with such a huge population of Armenians, has a totally different version of Armenian food.

Hi all. My mantis avocado is at adulthood now, he had his final moult around 4 months ago so I am expecting him not to live much longer. I’ve had him for almost a year. The problem is he isn’t really showing signs of weakness, he is still very alert and seems interested in food but as soon as he catches it he just drops it?? I’ve been trying to get him to eat for a few weeks now with different types of live foods but he just appears uninterested in eating. I don’t want him to starve to death but I don’t know what else I can do. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I give my L4 ghost melanogaster fruit flies and refuses to eat them. Occasionally he eats a few but doesn’t eat all the ones I give them. I’m worried bc he’s extremely underweight and I don’t want him to starve. Should I give him different food or is this just a phase?

I am a beginner to keeping mantids and I would like to know why my dead leaf mantis is not eating mealworms I give her, not sure if this is something to be concerned about or if it is completely normal.
