Why is it that when a "pronunciation" guide based on hangeul is given for a given word one syllable at a time, the guide doesn't match up with the pronunciation of the whole word?

A common example is " ν–ˆμ–΄" being pronounced as "haet-eo" as individual syllables, then it is usually followed by the whole word pronounced as "haesseo."

Is that a standard practice?

How does spellcheck work? Does it have a giant dictionary of possible misspellings or does it pattern-match syllables (or possible syllables) and if a word doesn't match the dictionary list it looks for possible phonetic matches? Is the science mature or are new technologies coming out?

[WP] Each person's favorite words are the same amount of syllables as their name. The more syllables in the name, the more complex words they enjoy, and vice versa. So parents begin naming their kids with more and more ridiculous names, both short and long.

Is there any one-syllable word that contains the pronunciation /ir/?

From what I've seen, in single syllable words, if the vowel seems plausible to be either /i/ (tense) or /Ιͺ/ (lax), and it is followed by a "r" , it always turns out to be /Ιͺ/, for example: "weird", "here", "near", "queer", "clear", etc.

Is there an exception to this rule?
