the city of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire. founded in 1325, the city was built on a small island on lake Texcoco. the city grew fast becoming one of the largest in the world until the arrival of the Spanish. after extreme fighting, the city fell in 1521 and was razed brick by brick.

TIL 65 years ago, the Latino Tower was the first skyscraper built in a highly seismic area. It has survived 3 intense earthquakes with only a couple of broken windows by a combination of it "floating" in the soil that once was the lake of texcoco and 361 concrete piles.

TIL the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan was built on Lake Texcoco, which was engineered to segregate freshwater & saltwater with dikes to maintain a drinking water supply. The Spanish drained the lake to build Mexico City, resulting in water shortages. Mexico City sank 10m over the past century.

Gardens of Lake Texcoco
So I was trying to do some achievements for fun. After meeting all requirements I was not awarded with the achievement.
In the top right corner you can see I've built the floating gardens. There is a lake in my radius. No mods are enabled. Anybody have advice?

TiL A blue-green algae that forms on top of a warm waters of Lake Texcoco near Mexico City; was dried and made into cakes, and eaten by Aztec Indians. These cakes have more protein then beef, and some fish. Spirulina, with its spiral cell structure, is found today as a dietary supplement.
