A list of puns related to "John McVie"
McVie was always the least relevant member of the band, but I firmly believe that his bass playing is the most overlooked part of FMβs music and none of the songs would sound the same without his catchy basslines.
Heβs certainly no John Entwistle, but he writes a lot of basslines that I really like and Iβm enamored by how well they fit in with the songs. I specifically love his bass in βGo Your Own Wayβ, βGypsyβ, and βThe Chainβ. Melodic yet simple hooks that add excellent depth to the song.
So, what say you r/FleetwoodMac? Do you like John McVieβs bass playing?
I always hear how praised bassists in pop culture like John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney or John Entwistle are. I listened to a lot of Fleetwood Mac recently and lately also took more notice of the bass playing. Listening to a few songs of their most famous period like 'Oh Daddy', 'You Make Loving Fun', 'Say You Love Me' or 'Wish You Were Here' I realized how essential John McVie's bass playing is to FM tunes. It's like the perfect foundation for Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing (which is also mildly underrated imho). Also their slower tunes like the mentioned 'Wishe You Were Here' are actually very bass driven.
I'm not saying that he plays crazy mindblowing basslines but his melodic, not too simplistic basslines add the perfect touch to FM songs imho.
While I don't consider Mick Fleetwood or John McVie one of the best players of their instrument I consider them together one of the best rythm sections in Pop/Rock. They may be not on par with rythm sections like JPJ/John Bonham but the rythm section of e.g. Led Zeppelin or The Who set the bar pretty high. And I think John McVie is more than just a decent bass player.

Everyone else has somewhat known solo careers but I haven't heard anything from John.
Heads up: This is gonna be a long post. I'm a comedian who is very fortunate to know some cast & writers who have been on the show, as well as knowing a lottttt of people who have come close or went through the audition process (myself included). So I thought it would be fun to let you guys in on just how difficult it is to even be seen in front of Lorne + name drop some incredible talent that almost made the show but slipped through the cracks.
First off - The Audition Process. You can get cast on the show a multitude of ways, but the most popular are having a series of auditions at the most notable improv, sketch, and stand up theaters. For improv and sketch you're looking at Second City Chicago, (formerly) iO Chicago, the Annoyance Theater, UCB, and Groundlings. For stand up I'm not as savvy at, but from what I've heard it's primarily the New York and LA clubs mixed with previous skills writing on shows. You can also audition as one of two things: Writer or Performer. This will determine how you want to form your audition.
It should also be noted that each of these places cater to a different set of skills. Groundlings is known for its characters and impression based comedians. Examples are Phil Hartman, John Lovitz, Kristen Wiig, Cheri Oteri, Will Ferrell, and current cast members Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman, and Mikey Day.
Second City is where you'll get an equal mix of writers and performers. Past cast include Jason Sudeikis, Tim Robinson, and current cast like Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong (all of which were mainstage cast members - already a feat in itself and can take some performers 10 years of touring work to get).
There are some exceptions to the rule as well, mainly those who have been acting for years or were on comparable shows. Kate McKinnon was scouted from the Big Gay Sketch Show, Kyle and Beck were scouted from their viral videos, Sarah Squirm was doing a pretty intense variety show that got cult status in Chicago, and Kenan was a child actor with very early comedic chops.
I don't know all the ins and outs of every places auditions, but here is just a taste of what the iO Chicago one was: iO has one of the biggest track records for casting out of all the theaters. Some of the titans of SNL have come out of there - Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, and so on. Over the years they dwindled it down and changed some things, but overall it's stayed relatively the same. You get 5 minutes... Just 5 minutes to show off yo

When Americans woke up in 1919 to a world dominated by the Kaiserreich, some were overjoyed, others dismayed, but most were apathetic. After all it was just another European war, and one that had cost millions of lives at that. After the SS George Washington sinking and Black Tom Explosion, the Entente was forced to open non-war trade to Germany. A multitude of private charities stepped in to help alleviate hunger in the Central Powers, one of the leaders of this movement was a young humanitarian named Herbert Hoover. Hoover led the Commission for Relief in Germany and later the new Belgian state of Flanders-Wallonia. Along with humanitarian aid though, investors began to invest in German industry and companies. This increasing trade with the devastated nation led to an even greater economic boom in the United States as they profited off of their neutrality. While the upper and middle class thrived though, the working class had not forgotten the injustices of the Gilded Age. Prominent socialist journalist Jack Reed left the burning husk of Bolshevik Russia and was there to bear witness to the French Civil War and establishment of the Commune of France. Taken by the comparative efficiency and ability to provide for the people of the CGT's government, compared to what he had seen of the Bolsheviks, he became an ardent syndicalist and on his return from Europe released 10 Weeks That Shook the World, an apparent sequel to his earlier writings on the failed Russian Revolution. It became the definitive English-language account of the French Revolution, and earned Reed great notoriety among American leftists including one βBig Billβ Haywood. Reed would convince Haywood to officially endorse syndicalism, which he did, and it became the official ideology of his newly formed Socialist Party of America (SPA).
President Woodrow Wilson had made true on his campaign pledge to stay out of the war and was known as the βMan Who Kept the Peaceβ by most of the public. Using his popularity and without regard to his health problems, Wilson secured the Democratic Party's nomination for an unthinkable third term. Wilsonβs longtime Vice President, Thomas R. Marshall, refused to be on the ticket as VP again and so the Democrats chose Attorney General Alexander Mitchell Palmer to run with Wilson. Wilsonβs first choice for VP, the ambitious Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt had succumbed to Guillain-Barre syndrome ea
