Hi! I go to school in Colorado and was selected as an Irene Ryan nominee for my performance in The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui! In February, I will be traveling to compete with other nominees. A lightweight trilogy between former interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier and former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor will headline the event. I know this movie is quite known, but I have just watched it and omg, what a masterpiece. I'm not particularly a fan of "gang/mafia movies", but Drive is so much more than that.

Drive is beautiful, its aesthetic is immaculate. It is a whole portal in a new world, you're lost in the universe of the movie for 1h36. It's an experience really, and I would advice it to anyone who isn't sensitive to blood/violence. You won't regret it.

This is an interesting card on paper, some head scratchers, a lot of hype fights, but honestly a slightly lacking card for something as big as a McGregor main event.

This is also my 135th event that I have predicted for. Getting up there in numbers!

Middleweight

Alen Amedovski (-150) (8-2-0, 2 FLS) v Yaozong Hu (+125) (3-2-0, 2 FLS) - This is an interesting fight to start off this fairly decent PPV. Amedovski hasn’t really had much chance in the UFC to shine. His only two fights in the UFC have come by defeat, and whilst he did manage to go all 3 rounds against Krzysztof Jotko, he only landed 6 punches before being absolutely dominated. I could easily watch that fight, but it wouldn’t matter because 6 punches is still only 6 punches. He was scheduled to fight Bevon Lewis last year, but pulled out due to an unknown reason. Well, the reason is probably known, but I can’t see why. Amedovski seems to be a fairly strong striker with heavy hands, having won most of his fights by knockout, so really at the moment i’m going into this pretty blind. Hu is a long forgotten name. Not because he’s a horrible fighter or anything like that, but simply because he’s been incredibly inactive. His last fight was a loss against Rashad Coulter two and a half years ago, and prior to that when he made his UFC debut, he lost against Cyril Asker. Those two fighters he lost to, are no longer in the UFC. I honestly don’t know what else to say. It’s one of those fights that I suppose needs to happen so viewers can see what these guys are capable of. This will be a very low confidence prediction.

Zhalgas Zhumagulov (-375) (13-5-0, 2 FLS) v Jerome Rivera (+290) (10-5-0, 3 FLS) - There are a lot of losing streaks so far. Zhumagulov is definitely one of the smaller framed fighters in the UFC, but he carries power in his left hand. Zhumagulov is excellent at finding his range and hand fighting, he is comfortable in the southpaw stance and uses his lead leg to kinda probe and give his opponent something to think about, but his primary weapon is his left hand. Zhumagulov is also a decent wrestler, although we haven’t seen a lot of dominant wrestling being done by Zhumagulov. His t

Context:

The list below is copied¹ from a Word Perfect 5.1 file last modified in the mid-1990s, a few months after my birth. My mother spent considerable time researching names per family origins, so the majority of the list is likely the fruit of that labor, with a minority of names thrown in courtesy of my father.

The name selection & culling process began with each parent compiling personal lists of viable names; then, the lists were cross-checked for names they had in common. At the same time, certain names were vetoed. Names vetoed for me included:

• Andromache (mom vetoed; high chance name would be mispronounced my entire life. Also not a fan in general)
• Maia (dad vetoed; "sounds too much like the Greek word for witch," which is Μάγισσα)

Mom's priorities were avoiding names at high risk for cruel nickname derivations, and names at high risk for mispronunciation. For example, though she thought my (Greek Cypriot) paternal grandmother's name was beautiful, she expected Americans would mispronounce the second part as 'filly' and nickname me as such.

Ruling out both grandmothers' names for me meant not adhering to Greek naming conventions. They made up for this with my younger brother; so much for all the research into boy's names). I do want to point out that people have certainly mispronounced my surname throughout my life (+ subjected both it and my first name to misspellings), but ah well, so it goes.

¹ I've made minor formatting adjustments for convenience's sake and added gender headings, but otherwise haven't changed the content—typos left in!

This is an interesting card on paper, some head scratchers, a lot of hype fights, but honestly a slightly lacking card for something as big as a McGregor main event.

This is also my 135th event that I have predicted for. Getting up there in numbers!

Prelims

Middleweight

Alen Amedovski (-150) (8-2-0, 2 FLS) v Yaozong Hu (+125) (3-2-0, 2 FLS) - This is an interesting fight to start off this fairly decent PPV. Amedovski hasn’t really had much chance in the UFC to shine. His only two fights in the UFC have come by defeat, and whilst he did manage to go all 3 rounds against Krzysztof Jotko, he only landed 6 punches before being absolutely dominated. I could easily watch that fight, but it wouldn’t matter because 6 punches is still only 6 punches. He was scheduled to fight Bevon Lewis last year, but pulled out due to an unknown reason. Well, the reason is probably known, but I can’t see why. Amedovski seems to be a fairly strong striker with heavy hands, having won most of his fights by knockout, so really at the moment i’m going into this pretty blind. Hu is a long forgotten name. Not because he’s a horrible fighter or anything like that, but simply because he’s been incredibly inactive. His last fight was a loss against Rashad Coulter two and a half years ago, and prior to that when he made his UFC debut, he lost against Cyril Asker. Those two fighters he lost to, are no longer in the UFC. I honestly don’t know what else to say. It’s one of those fights that I suppose needs to happen so viewers can see what these guys are capable of. This will be a very low confidence prediction.

Flyweight

Zhalgas Zhumagulov (-375) (13-5-0, 2 FLS) v Jerome Rivera (+290) (10-5-0, 3 FLS) - There are a lot of losing streaks so far. Zhumagulov is definitely one of the smaller framed fighters in the UFC, but he carries power in his left hand. Zhumagulov is excellent at finding his range and hand fighting, he is comfortable in the southpaw stance and uses his lead leg to kinda probe and give his opponent something to think about, but his primary weapon is his left hand. Zhumagulov is also a decent wrestler, although we haven’t seen a lot of dominant wrestling being done by Zhumagulov. His t
