Human-Computer Interaction Advice

Right now I am majoring in Cognitive Science with a focus in HCI/AI and am really interested in a job concerning HCI. I am a little lost as to my future plans in order to land a decent job in this field. Do you think it is necessary to pursue a master's degree in HCI in order to be a competitor in the job market or is this undergrad major suitable? I just am not sure I have all the necessary skills yet from my classes to enter this field. If a master's is not needed, would it be beneficial to take a 6-month BootCamp? Thanks for the help :)

How useful would a Human Computer Interaction course be?

I’ve read online that some programmers simply imitate other good UIs and adjust them to fit their app, but my university offers a Human Computer Interaction course (in the computer science department). The course offered actually does not have any coding involved (which is unfortunate imo), and is based entirely on the design process and prototyping. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to take this course (I am an undergrad, may work as a software engineer in industry once I graduate but I am not entirely sure), or if my time would be better spent choosing a different course for elective credit, since one could just imitate other intuitive UI’s.

Hey guys, not sure if this is allowed but I am doing a project for school and it is Valheim related. The course is a computer science project course and we have to follow certain phases. We are currently in the data collection/requirements gathering stage and I need your help. We have done some 1 on 1 interviews also that were in depth but now we are going to use a additional method. We made a Google Forum and are hoping to get some responses. It is only 10 quick questions and none of the questions are mandatory! Hi!

I am interested in applying for a master's in human-computer interaction and am a bit lost where to start since I do not come from a traditional HCI background (majored in psychology). It would be super helpful if I could read an example SOP for a master's in HCI, but I am having a hard time finding one. Would really appreciate it if anyonecould give tips/ share your SOP.

How to get into UX with Master in Human Computer Interaction?

I'm currently finishing my Bachelor of Psychology with a minor in Computer Science and plan on doing a Master in Human Computer Interaction afterwards.

I've looked into careers in this field and most of them sound very appealing to me. I really like UX design, interaction design, user research, everything in that category. I also like the idea of becomming a project manager at some later point of my career. However, i feel unfit for any of these jobs.

Of course, i still have a lot to learn in my Master, but in my mind a designer should be good at visual design. Im not good at drawing, i have never used Photoshop or Adobe illustrator, and i feel like that's something needed to become a designer, or am I wrong here? I would consider myself to be creative, most of my friends consider me very creative, I've just never learned a craft to visually express my creativity, is this a problem when I want to be a UX designer?

On the other hand i often hear that there is also the side of it that's more focused on programming if I'm not that good at the creative stuff. However, I'm also not good at that. I'm managing, but i don't enjoy it.

For User research I'm assuming u need to be good at statistics? I'm also passing all my courses, but I'm also really not enjoying that.

I just feel like I have so much surface level knowledge of so many areas but i don't feel like I'm really that good at anything so I'm struggling to find 'my area'. Any advice?

What I hope the GW4 WearOS interface will change from GW Tizen - Human-Computer Interaction Design

As we know Wear OS 3 is going to be skinned with Samsung One UI which I haven't an issue within principle but I have been using my old trusty Fossil Gen 4 over my GW 3 for about a week or so and have found I have actually enjoyed my old Gen 4 over my GW 3 - not for things like battery life or health-tracking wise but how enjoyable and more pleasant the UI is to use - let me explain:

Interface and Interaction Design I prefer WearOS 2.x to Tizen 5.x and hope will be the same on GW4

The GW line does not return to the Always On Display instead it has this stupid more power-hungry "ambient mode?" I think it's called. So when you're open on any application other than your watch face it displays a blurred background the time... one this uses more battery and two I am not seeing my pretty watch face. Wear OS 2.X does this much better, it just returns to the AOD.

Viewing notification is the worst on the GW line. Why is there not an option to disable stupid animation when you check a notification as soon as it comes? In fact, I can't seem to find a "auto show" notification on the watch either so you have to manually always interact with the watch to check the notification rather than have a quick glance to decide if it is important or not. I understand this is for privacy probably but again give users the choice. On WearOS just display's it all nice like not a worry.

Media controls are pretty crap on the GW line compared to WearOS 2.x. So, in the Samsung Music app, there is no way to change the rotating bezel functionality. Intead of changing tracks I would much prefer the bezel to change the volume of the music and for the pusher buttons to skip the tracks like it does on Wear OS. But sadly there is no way to do that and there is no third-party music app it seems. I even tried to code my own solution to this lol but didn't get very far developing for Tizen was too confusing for me but I'm not really a programmer anyhow.

Finally - okay this probably should not be an issue but as long as Google Assistant works on the GW4 just fine for replying to texts I'm good. Bixby is just awful for voice dictation.

But truly if we are just comparing Tizen and WearOS - all 4 things mentioned above Wear OS simply does better IMO, Google Assitant should be fine on the GW4 but the other 3 things... if they remain the same as they are on Tizen at the moment, I am not sure I will enjoy using it as much. Am I being petty or do you agree? Do you own both a Wear OS and Gala

MIT Researchers Introduce ‘MedKnowts’, A System That Combines Machine Learning And Human-Computer Interaction To Create A Better EHR

Electronic health records (EHRs) have become widely used in the hopes of saving time and improving patient care quality. Physicians, however, typically spend more time navigating these systems than dealing with patients due to fragmented interfaces and time-consuming data entry procedures.

A research team from MIT and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center combines machine learning and human-computer interaction to produce a better electronic health record (EHR). MedKnowts is a system that combines the activities of searching for medical records and documenting patient data into a single, interactive interface.

This “smart” EHR uses artificial intelligence to display tailored, patient-specific medical records when a physician needs them. To help doctors work more effectively, MedKnowts also provides autocomplete for clinical terminology and auto-populates fields with patient information.
