A list of puns related to "Histopathology"
Applying for histopath this year and I just think it's a cool specialty. I always see people raving about radiology but isn't histo very similar? If not even better, considering you don't have to fight with A&E for pushing scans to you and it has (nearly) zero on calls?!! It's extremely interesting and you can work at your own pace. Sure the autopsies are a bit gross but you don't have to talk to difficult families or have to deal with ward bleeps, and the job is often very rewarding as patient's management depend on your diagnosis. It's a run through program, 9-5, scope for private work, still need to know anatomy and clinical knowledge (a lot of oncology!) so why is it not as competitive as radiology? Just wondering.
I know this might not be the most appropriate subreddit so apologies. I was just curious as there is little information on the higher specialist scientist training programmes (the HSST).
I realize it's only 4 places available, but has anyone applied to histopath and been shortlisted?
Navicularis is a great histology deck, but I'm looking for a deck that assumes you already know normal histology and asks you about abnormal (pathological) cases. Asks you to identify what's going on, and possibly explains why in the extra field. Any deck like that?
Any recommendations on how to best prepare for Histopathology interview? Iβve read that the questions tend to repeat themselves, but I could not find proper recommendations on how to prepare, other than doing a taster week which I did. There is a book on Amazon called the Skillful pathologist thatβs supposed to be written for this very purpose, anyone tried it?
Thanks in advance.
Does anyone have any recommendations for good resources to learn about histopathology? Graduate level material would be excellent. Thanks everyone!
Are there websites or atlases that have a side-by-side view of normal vs abnormal histological slides?
this is a section of a liver - wondering if anyone can shed some light on what the rod-like structures that are present could be.
They have caused widespread hepatic necrosis and infiltration of immune cells.

So my soon to be 12 year old Lhasa Apso just had a mass removed that the vet thought was suspicious I decided against paying for the Histopathology test for the following reasons hopefully you can confirm I'm making a good choice or maybe a bad one?
She's 12 years old I feel like if the worst results came back and it's cancer we wouldn't pay for a pricey chemo treatment given her age. And would just keep her home until her quality of life began to deteriorate
She seems 100% normal
It's $250 and that seems like a lot just to be told yes it's cancer you have so long to live or no it's not cancer you're all good.
Am I missing something? I feel the histopathology test makes more sense if my dog was younger say under 8-10 we do love her and would do anything too keep her around but chemo seems like a lot to put her through at this stage of her life..
Sorry if this was a little rambly just not sure what to do and want to make sure I'm making the choice for the right reasons...

Thanks
I'm entering multiple courses in pathology and they don't really recommend a specific book so: What histopathology books do you swear by?
Also I've flaired this as STEP 2 but my country has a different med school system, just as an indication that it involves advanced histopathology
Tumour in lefty was 34x25x21mm involving rete testis and hilar soft tissue; no other tissue invasion. No lymph nodes look unusual, but lungs have 7 small 2-3mm spots on them. Oncology thinks theyβre unrelated and will treat me as stage 1B for a pure Seminoma. Theyβre recommending either 1 round of EP (takes recurrence chance from 30% to 5%) or 3 of BEP (they say will be likely curative but an awful 9 weeks). No option of surveillance was a bit of a blow. I wanted to ask whether any of you had refractory pure Seminoma after EP that had turned platinum resistant, or if follow-up BEP hit it on the head after recurrence. Pet scan tomorrow to see if any lymph nodes light up on the way to my lungs (which would take me to stage 3, though theyβre adamant they could still have a good crack at it!). Currently leaning towards the 3xBEP because Iβm desperate to keep it away, and scared of doing 1xEP and simply having it come back anyway. Donβt want to wait given the growth rate is apparently double every 10-30 days. Any thoughts are much appreciated - hope youβre all doing as well as possible!
Iβve seen some posts on here encouraging people to apply to histopathology. Iβm a late stage trainee coming up to CCT. Thought I would post a reality check where people understand that biomedical scientist are now being trained to report and the specialty will not be medical in 10-15 years. Interesting post on doctors.org.Uk forum saying that scientists will be able to join ST1 and become full consultants. Do not apply to histopathology - the only thing worse than mid levels is actually being replaced at consultant level by non medics. Histopathology is the new public health were skills and subsequently pay is devalued.
Edit: sorry if this wasnβt clear from my initial post - the clinical scientists will be taking ST1 training spots I.e like public health were anyone can apply. Requirement will be a masters degree rather than a medical degree as currently. This means less training spaces for medical grads.
Obviously some people here feel that histopathology is a job anyone can do , but think about how any job can be broken down into its component parts and soon we will have APs applying for ST1 EM or surgical nurse applying for core surgery training.
Either medical school is a foundation and minimum requirement to the profession or it isnβt.
I've been asked to give another presentation to FYs in my area of histopathology - good sign I suppose!
These are 30-45 minute didactic teaching sessions with question time. I last presented on what we do in the lab, the process of tissue to slide and our role in cancer multidisciplinary meetings.
I'm hoping to gather some ideas of what other medics would be interested in knowing. My concern is that it can easily get too complex e.g. I'm thinking of teaching principles of molecular pathology tests - e.g. lung cancers (EGFR,ALK,ROS1), colorectal (MMR) as it's relevant medically and surgically but it's all acronyms and gets hard to remember. If anyone else has any suggestions I'm all ears! :)
Hello everyone!
My research lab just started dabbling into histology with intestinal (Mostly duodenal) H&E stains coming from diseased chicken industry birds. No one is trained in histology so I am basically being self taught to analyze these slides. I was wondering if anyone knows any good resources for this niche field besides AAAP Avian Histopathology book.
Some of my main problem is I don't have access to healthy chickens so it's difficult to tell what's normal variation, and I'm not sure what are anomalies from outsourced slide preparation/dissection angles/ etc. or are coming from some sort of issue with the bird, primarily the villi.
Another issue is being able to generalize on an H&E stain what type of cells I'm seeing in terms of lymphocytes and other leukocytes since chicken cells are a little different.
Thanks for any help and advice!
Guys whoβve taken their exam recently how was Histopathology question were there a lot of them
Hello, fellow labrats.
I got a job as a lab aide in a histopathology/cancer diagnostics lab in 2019 and worked my way up to grossing/embedding the tissue. I'm looking for an Embedding position closer to home, but have yet to find any listings that aren't for HT/HTL. Does anyone have recommendations for search terms or US companies/hospitals to check for listings?
Thanks in advanced.
Can someone recommend a good high yield source for histopathology images for step 1?
Any channel which teaches histopath from the basics.
Job is near Destin, FL. They need someone ASAP. Here is the link to the posting on indeed.

Is it the same?? I mean inflammation of both the interstitium & tubules?
Someone please clarify this for me. I just discovered that and I was like "what is going on here" lol
Time for another mystery case!

Note: This has been posted in both r/labrats and r/histology and the general consensus is that I'm stuck where I am until I can get trained on HT/HTL. I was recommended to post here as well.
Thanks in advanced.
